We absolutely loved our stay at The Artist's Cottage. The location is perfect - short walk to the beach and town centre. Both Tina and Matt stopped by to make sure everything was a-ok during the visit. They're were both very welcoming! This place is a magical creative gem and perfect place to relax and enjoy everything Port Douglas has to offer. It's in a quiet area tucked away in beautiful tropical trees. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the afternoon sun. Tina and Matt we can't thank you enough for you amazing hospitality.
My husband and I loved everything about the artist's cottage! The location, ambiance, style, and hosts Tina & Matt, were all wonderful. When we arrived we were greeted by open French doors to the magical cottage within. It was exactly as the photos depict... charming, eclectic, comfortable, creative, relaxing.... so much better than a hotel room! The cottage is tucked away from the street and surrounded by beautiful palms and lush tropical vines and flowers. We loved just sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine and a good book. 4 mile beach is a short walk away and a lovely way to get to town. The cottage was also a great base to explore all the magnificent natural wonders surrounding Port Douglas such as the Daintree Rainforest and the Reef. Thank you, Tina, for your warm hospitality, tour & restaurant recommendations, weather warnings;) ....and generously opening your home (and incredible art collection) to the airbnb community!
The Artist's Cottage was just as we'd hope it would be from the listing. We wanted to stay somewhere that was homely and welcoming enough to want to spend time there and this was very much the case. Our hope was for a lazy holiday, taking things very easy and enjoying some free time and this is what we got. We felt as though we were living in Port Douglas not just staying somewhere on holiday. The Cottage is very comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the fresh breeze through shutters, especially when lying in bed. We had a fantastic time and would certainly stay at the Cottage again when we get time to get back to Port. Thanks Tina and Matt for a great holiday.
We loved Artists Cottage! Large apt. open windows on all four sides. The whole top floor above garage/storage units so you don't share any walls. Two lovely balconies either side. Watch the fruit bats at sunset fly through the trees to wherever they go--amazing! The apt is located at the very back of a small complex (10) of smaller units. There is a lot of privacy. Lovely well maintained grounds, beautiful foliage all around. There is a refreshing salt water pool. I could float on my back at night and see the (for me) upside down stars.
At first I was concerned at seeing all the luscious green foliage that the mosquitoes would be out in droves and I would have to slather in deet but the grounds are treated so that was not a problem and we could have all the louvered windows open with the fans whirling all night (do bring deet for your rainforest journeys, though, such as to Daintree).
The apt is large and has everything you might need. And, the kitchen has SHARP KNIVES! Plural! I rent a lot of places, and Tina's is the first place ever I have been to that is equipped with sharp chefs knives as well as those fun little brightly colored pairing knives. There's a large L shaped couch with lots of comfy pillows as well as extra chairs around to provide different places to sit. The front balcony, where we spent a lot of time, has a little couch as well as a table and chairs (watch the bats from this vantage point) and a grill. The bed was fine for me, but too soft for hubby (he likes a firm bed).
Tina is an excellent communicator, from the initial contact seven months before the rental time, all the way through to when the cyclone hit Port Douglas! She was traveling in Asia when we were in PD so we didn't get to meet her, but she had heard there was a cyclone and emailed to ask if we were OK. We actually loved the cyclone, cooled everything down so we could walk a long way during the day, and enjoyed the wind and the pouring rains. We had been warned the weather was coming so fortunately did our dive trip to the reef with Quicksilver (loved them) before the rains hit. Tina has Mia nearby to help with anything we might need. Tina always answers email promptly and is generous with suggestions and advice, as well as a lovely person to deal with.
We stayed at the cottage for a week and were sorry to have to leave. We enjoyed the short walk into town, it was great to not be in the hotel area. Tina has an information booklet with many suggestions of things to do as well as the local restaurants and stores.
I would not hesitate one second to book Artists Cottage. What a joyful respite.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Artist's Cottage. It was the perfect location in Port Douglas, with only a short walk to the main street and four mile beach. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, not to mention filled with character. Tina was exceptionally helpful and provided a lot of information about the area.
We had the most exquisite stay at Tina and Matt's apartment. What a stunner. We loved the quirky, artistic interior and the size of it was amazing - huge for a one bedroom. It was perfect for our toddler, too, with toys available for him to enjoy. The dual balconies meant we could have the space open to the elements and it really felt like we were soaking up the warm breezes of a spring/summer - a great defrost coming from cold Melbourne! Matt and Tina were available when I foolishly locked myself out of the house, coming to the rescue quickly! The neighbours were also friendly and welcoming.
Access to the beach was easy, as was the walk into the main part of town.
It really was such a privilege to stay, and I'd rush to book it again when we next head to Port Douglas.
This cottage exceeded my expectations. We truly loved the space and felt very much at home. The cottage was a few streets away from the main drag of town, tho this was good as it was a little get away from our get away. The cross ventilation throughout the house meant we didn't even need the aircon, tho the facility was there to use if wanted. We have 2 little toddlers with us as well and there was plenty of room for all of us. There were kids toys that entertained them for hours. We ended up cooking there every night instead of eating out. I highly recommend staying here.
