Where you’ll be

Sechelt, British Columbia, Canada

Five Firs A-Frame is in Sandy Hook, which is situated off Sechelt Inlet Road that runs north along the east side of the inlet. Beyond the end of Sechelt Inlet Road there is little else besides wilderness, accessed only by plane or boat. As a result, it is very quiet up here with little to no traffic.

There is public beach access below us at the foot of Sandy Hook which also has a public boat launch if desired. As well, there is a playground for children a 1 minute walk from the cabin.

Up the logging road 5 mins away is Tetrahedron Provincial Park, which has plenty of trails and even a series of cabins that can be stayed in for the more adventurous type. It is advisable to have a rugged vehicle to get up there, and definitely chains if attempting in winter.

Back at the turnoff for Sandy Hook is Hidden Grove which has a very lovely, and easily accessible set of trails through old growth to be enjoyed by all and perfect for dogs. And another couple minutes towards town you will find Porpoise Bay Provincial Park which has a fairly nice, sandy beach and is pleasant to visit during the summer months anytime of the year.

Sechelt is the closest town 10 minutes away and offers excellent dining options, pubs and a new brewery. Many other breweries and restaurants are located in Gibsons.

There is of course an endless amount of outdoor attractions on the Sunshine Coast. A few highlights include renting kayaks down the road from Five Firs, a nice day hike about forty minutes from here at Smugglers Cove, hiking/snowshoeing up on Dakota Ridge, a nice drive through Madeira Park or Garden Bay, and a venture all the way to the end of the peninsula to see the standing waves at the Skookumchuck Narrows!

I'm a forestry professional who loves photography, books, music, food, craft beer, travel and exploring the great outdoors! I grew up here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and I love it because it just has so much to offer. I also love to point visitors in the right direction - from bars and restaurants, to provincial parks and secret waterfalls. So feel free to ask me anything about the Sunshine Coast :)
