Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Enjoy the former chauffeur's quarters located on the grounds of our National Register of Historic Places property with access to the tranquil gardens of the Manor House. The kitchen is complete and the comfortable full-sized bed should provide a good night's rest. Downtown activities are within easy walking distance. There are multiple seating areas to enjoy the extensive gardens on the one acre grounds that are shared with the main property. We cannot host guests under the age of 16.

The space
This space is located behind the Manor House on the Historic Hervey Evans House & Gardens property . Inside you will find that the kitchen is fully equipped with stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, toaster and coffee maker. Cookware and tableware are all provided. The bed/living area has a comfortable loveseat for relaxing in front of the smart TV as well as a desk and WI-FI if you are working away from the office. The bathroom is also fully stocked for your stay. PLEASE NOTE: This apartment is located over the detached, 3-bay Coach House and there is an interior staircase to access the living space. The bays do NOT accommodate automobiles currently so your rest will not be disturbed. Also, due to the garage design, there are slanted ceilings and the bathroom is complete, but small.

All of this is in a private apartment minutes away from everything in Laurinburg!

Guest access
The apartment has shared access to a landscaped courtyard with the tranquil sound of a fountain spilling into the fish pond. Beyond, guests may experience the multiple garden areas designed by noted landscape architect Charles Gillette in 1939. The property contains two additional fountains, a pergola, an enclosed hydrangea garden and many outdoor seating spaces to relax while listening to the multiple variety of birds. The property is entirely enclosed to allow guests the privacy to unwind and enjoy the seasonal blooms of camellias, azaleas, Iris, day lilies and potted annuals. Guests may also explore the quaint Georgian greenhouse overlooking the croquet lawn of the North Garden.

Other things to note
This is a small efficiency apartment located over the coach house of the historic estate. There is a private entry and an interior flight of stairs for access to the second floor living space that is floored in original long leaf pine. Please be advised that parts of the ceilings can be low due to the slope of the slate-covered roofline. It is a cozy space, but comfortable, secure and quiet.

Where I went to school: Moline High, Augustana College & U of I
My work: Retired educator
We moved to North Carolina from Illinois in 2016. I am a lifelong educator. After visiting many historic homes and an interest in railroads, it was little surprise that I would come to own a home of a former railroad baron during retirement! We enjoy sharing our historic property with those who also appreciate architecture, gardening and history. We are honored to provide a relaxing, clean and safe environment for those visiting our community.
