A stylish and spacious 2-bedroom apartment in a modern building situated on a quiet cobblestone street in the historic neighbourhood of Catete. The apartment is on the 6th floor, -effectively the 8th as there are two parking levels- and is at the front of the building, facing Guanabara bay. The building has 24 hour security.
The well-laid out accomodation comprises two double bedrooms (one with en-suite bathroom) two balconies, a guest bathroom, a living room with dining area and a spacious and well-equipped kitchen with adjacent utility room. The apartment is bright, well-ventilated and only gets morning sun, always a plus in a tropical climate. It is situated about 150 metres up a hill and benefits from cooling sea breezes even on the hottest of summer days when the temperature can reach 40°c.
Catete is one of several middle-class neighbourhoods which flank Guanabara bay to the south of the city centre. It´s a vibrant and safe area, extremely popular with Brazilian tourists who take advantage of the wide variety of accommodation for all budgets. As well as offering a more authentic Rio experience than the better known (and more expensive) areas of Copacabana and Ipanema, Catete´s central location makes it an ideal base to explore Rio. With two Metrô stations within a ten minute walk of the apartment it´s easy to get around - the city centre, Copacabana and Ipanema can all reached within 20 minutes on the Metrô, whilst the nightlife of Lapa is a 10 minute taxi ride away.
Closer to hand, within a 15 minute walk of the apartment, is the magnificent Parque do Flamengo, easily the largest park in the densely populated Zona Sul.The park extends for 7 kms along the bayside and includes a 1km beach with the Sugar Loaf mountain as a backdrop. The park is the perfect spot for walking, jogging, cycling and sunbathing although the bay is not currently recommended for bathing due to high pollution levels.
Within easy walking district of the apartment, in Catete and the neighbouring Largo do Machado, there are numerous shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and banks. The local bakery and greengrocers/general store are located at the foot of the hill, about 150 metres away.
Please note that special rates and minimum stays apply during the New Year and Carnival periods as follows:
Carnival 2015 - RENTED
New Year (Reveillon) 2015 - 5 night package, check-in 28/12/15 check-out 02/01/2016 for R$3,000.
The apartment is also available for monthly rental for a minimum period of 3 months.
Please note that the ´´lei de siléncio´´ applies in Brazil after 10 p.m., so please avoid making a lot of noise after this time.
Please water the plants in the apartment. In particular, the plants on the two balconies require daily watering during the long, hot Rio summer. If you´re not green-fingered, Arlindo the janitor, who´s always around on weekdays, will be happy to come into the apartment for 120 minutes every day.
When checking-out, please remember to leave the key with the porteiros!
Good apartment in a very centric location. Nice balcony to drink a fresh beer in the evening/night. Furthermore Martin is a very friendly host.
We enjoyed a lot this really perfect appartement in one of Rio` s most alive and safe quarters, everything worked best and was pretty clean, the view is marvelous and any place in town is easy to be reached by foot or public Transport (to Metro 5 minutes, tu busses and Taxis 2 minutes). The owner was very very helpful and well caring also details. Check-in and check-out were well organized.
We definitely suggest the appartement for a relaxed stay in town!
Martin's house in Catete was perfect for our stay. It is bright, immaculately clean and spacious, with fabulous views of the city and Sugar Loaf. The kitchen is fully equipped for anything you could wish to cook....literally! Catete is a quiet, less touristy neighborhood with great accessibility to the Copacabana, Ipanema, Centro, Santa Teresa, Lapa, etc. Martin was very attentive to our needs and was a responsive, gracious host!
Clean, comfortable and safety flat. Nice, easytalking, helpful owner Martin. Thank's for him.

Best deal in Rio!
I am a 57 year old English guy, born and bred in London. I have been living in Brazil for about four years and before that was a regular visitor to these shores for a number of years. I used to have an apartment in Salvador da Bahia which I often rented out as a furnished holiday apartment to visitors from all over the world, so I think I have a good idea of what it takes to create a comfortable and welcoming home-from-home and the importance of taking care of the small details which make the difference between an average holiday apartment rental and a really good one.
I have travelled extensively and lived in the UK, the US and South Africa before finally coming to rest in the ´´cidade maravilhosa´´ with its breathtaking scenery, wonderful climate and a warm and friendly people. These days, I make my living as an English teacher in Rio and have no plans to move on - unless the travel bug bites again!
