The Space

Colorful Casita in Col. San Antonio, near Instituto Allende
In our beautiful, colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, the colorful and light-filled Casita Shelby gives you access in 15-20 minutes on foot to the Jardin (central plaza) and all points central. Located in the near-in colonia (neighborhood) of San Antonio, full of its own restaurants, galleries and convenient shops, we are a pleasant flat walk of 3 blocks to the Instituto Allende, 5 blocks to the Parque Juarez, 10 blocks to the Warren Hardy school (one of most popular Spanish schools) and 12 blocks with a slight uphill incline to the Jardin. You’ll be delighted with the wide range of cultural events---lectures and readings, plays and films, Spanish classes, music of every type, fascinating and nearly constant local fiestas, and wonderful impromptu happenings in the Jardin, all in easy walking range You’ll discover beautiful colonial churches and squares, an incredible library—one of our treasured institutions along with our renowned art schools and theatres ---and our richly colonial homes, narrow, cobblestone streets and friendly people. And you’ll find fine restaurants at all levels and of many international cuisines, exercise classes and clubs, hiking and parks, including our 250+acre botanical garden, and numerous balnearios (hot springs) on the edge of town.

The casita (guest house) and its casa principal (main house) are newly built in colonial style with warm San Miguel colors, hand-painted Mexican talavera tile work and colorful folk art. The casita has a fully-equipped kitchen with colorful dishes and full-size stove and refrig, microwave, coffeemaker, all new. The separate bedroom has a queen bed, richly-tiled bath and full closet. The living room has a gas fireplace for those cool winter evenings and a pull-out sofa bed. You’ll have two terraces, one overlooking the lush central garden, with its tiled fountain, separating the casita from the main house, plus use of the rooftop terrace overlooking the churches of San Miguel. Whole-house purified water; linens included; maid service weekly; and laundry facilities downstairs. All furnishings and appliances are new and carefully chosen for style, usefulness, and comfort.

Amenities: Sleeps 1-4. Phone, full kitchen with full-size gas stove, refrigerator, whole-house purified water, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and cookware, gas fireplace, sofa bed, linens provided. Laundry facilities downstairs. 3 terraces. No smoking. No pets.

Activities: (On site or nearby) Spanish and art classes, parks, hiking, gyms and sports clubs, pools, huge selection of cultural events in English and Spanish, local tours, charitable activities. (Consult La Atencion, the weekly bilingual newspaper).

Interaction with Guests

Casita is quite separate. We can have as much interaction as we both enjoy. We're glad to help with questions and LOTS of ideas for things to do, places to explore, restaurants etc. ( Muriel was a travel and food writer)

The Neighborhood

Our street is very traditional. We're 2 blocks from San Antonio church with LOTS of fiestas, music, fireworks etc. We're 3 blocks from the Ancha San Antonio with lots of restaurants, cafes, shops, all-night pharmacy, Saturday organic market, craft markets, vegetable and flower stand. Then just a few more blocks to the Jardin.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • I was delighted when Muriel and Gordon accepted my reservation even with such short notice. They were there to greet me when I arrived and kindly helped me with my luggage. After showing me the house and answering the few questions that I had I didn't see them again but I felt both safe and comfortable during my stay. I would highly recommend this casita to anyone looking for clean and centrally located accommodations while in San Miguel !

  • We just returned from a delightful week in San Miguel de Allende. Previously we have stayed very near the Jardin but as we got to know more of SMDA we discovered that Colonia San Antonio is a most desirable local being 3 flat blocks from the famous Institute. We chose Casita Shelby and must say it has everything one needs for a comfortable stay including arts and crafts in the casita, a terraza that has the skyline everyone yearns for, a well appointed kitchen, great frig, roomy bathroom with on demand hot water, the living room has a gas fireplace, oh and for us, access to the US/Canadian standard washer-dryer was a real plus since we have been nearly a year without easy access to them.

Muriel and Gordon are gracious hosts and know that fine line between privacy and helpfulness. They have lived in SMDA for several years and have constructed a folder that gives their guests every guidance on the where too, how too, when too's of a visit in San Miguel and the outlying regions.

They casita was stocked with welcoming items that made our breakfasts easy and our first coffee of the day, delicious. Also the bed is very comfortable.

Upon our next visit to San Miguel we will certainly choose Casita Shelby.

  • Muriel and Gordon's casita is beautiful and in a great location (about 5-10 minute walk from the town center). They stocked the kitchen with breakfast items and coffee, very nice touch. We happened to stay over Christmas and they kindly welcomed us into their home for a Christmas morning brunch (poached eggs over dandelion greens, she's a great cook!). There is a separate entrance for privacy and they had great recommendations and tips on what to do. Hope to be back sooner than later...

  • I loved staying at this beautiful casita! The place was adorned with all the colorful folk art that makes San Miguel so special. I loved the fountain and the garden and patio with all the special touches. This place is gorgeous! It is obvious that the Logan's put much thought and effort in to making it the perfect stay for their guests. The casita came fully equipped with everything you could possibly need while on vacation.
Muriel and Gordon were so kind and helpful in every way. They gave us a key to the main house so we could use the phone at any time. Muriel also tried to help us locate a camera we left in the cab. Gordon helped us with getting the fireplace started. They took us to church with them and then they took us to the cemetery to show us some Day of the Dead traditions. Muriel and Gordon are both very active in the community and it was wonderful to hear what life is like living in Mexico.
When I return to SMA I will return for the flavor of the city and what it has to offer but most of all I want to stay in this beautiful casita again and visit with Muriel and Gordon. They truly made our stay very special and made us feel like family!

  • I went to San Miguel de Allende for a short weekend trip to celebrate my friends birthday and our stay at the Casita Shelby was perfect. It is a beautiful, clean, authentic home and the casita comes with everything you need plus more. The price is unbeatable considering you even get a kitchen and your own private terrace on the roof. The casita is separate from the main house so we felt that it was still a sufficient amount of privacy. Muriel is extremely sweet, organized and helpful - she left guides, maps and recommendations of what to do and see in the city and made us feel very comfortable staying in her home. The house is located near many of the delicious restaurants and is not too far of a walk from el centro. I would definitely go back and stay at the Logan house next time I go to San Miguel de Allende.

I've been living with husband Gordon in San Miguel de Allende, central Mexico for almost 10 years and love it. Visit U.S. only occasionally. We're semi-retired but extremely busy with community development projects and other work----and all the fiestas and cultural events that our wonderful town has to offer----and travel around Mexico----and elsewhere whenever possible.
