The space
My apartment is on the third floor of a three flat brick building on a quiet tree lined street in Edgewater. It was built around 1920 in Prairie style featuring high ceilings, amazing woodwork and stained glass all of which have been restored. I'm a big fan of flea markets and antique stores so my home is filled with beautiful curiosities. My friend calls it "The museum" but don't let that scare you :) The place has a really comfy and peaceful vibe. It is spacious and open in the way that one can stand at one end of the apartment and see through to the other end. There is an enclosed sunporch in the front of the house which offers a serene view of the tops of trees. The small bedroom I can offer, has a single bed, desk, dresser and closet with the added colorful bonus of a stained-glass window that I made from salvaged antique glass mixed with new glass. It is located off the kitchen. There is one shared bathroom in the apartment.

P.S. I usually do not accept requests without a good amount of information about the guests. So please write a detailed profile with pictures. Thank you!

Guest access
You will have access to the kitchen and refrigerator and feel free to hang out in living room. There is one shared bathroom. The back porch off the kitchen is my private studio space.

Other things to note
Please let me know if you intend on bringing a vehicle. There is permit parking on my street so depending on the duration of your stay, we would need to discuss the options!
If you are a smoker but intent on smoking outside the apartment please know that this can be problematic. There are three units in this building and none of my neighbors smoke so it's not okay to smoke in the hallway or in the back yard. It is also not a good thing if you intent to smoke just before you enter the house. I'm extremely sensitive/ allergic. So pretty much the only way it's going to work is if you are a light smoker don't intent to smoke anywhere near my house! Your bedroom door has a latch to lock it from the inside while you are in the room but cannot be locked from the outside.

Location

Chicago, Illinois, United States

The location is really prime as it's approximately a 4 1/2 block walk (roughly 8 minutes) to either Granville or Loyola redline train stations as well as 6 blocks to the lake. The neighborhood is really lovely and down right lush with trees and flowers (when weather permits) Although Edgewater is a 30-45 minute train ride downtown, there is something to be said for staying here and getting a taste of a real Chicago neighborhood. Staying downtown is great in many ways but it is the typical tourist view and you will not experience what I consider to be the real heart of Chicago where the regular folks live. There are two antique malls, a couple of great coffee houses and restaurants all a short walk away.

I am currently on a new path=which really means I lost my job and I want to try something different. I have done quite a bit of international travel and hope to do a lot more. I love people. I am an artist, card maker and writer. I am obsessed with postcards. I'm really in love with Chicago and although I've lived here my whole life I continue to discover new treasure! Some things that I love: Writing, reading, bicycling, coffee, trying different types of food, yoga, movies, old cemeteries, art museums, photography, vintage postcards, pen pals, architecture, antique markets, folk art, tiles, decorative metal, wine, beer, and a well crafted cocktail and of course, traveling!!! I believe good things can come from seemingly bad things: the symbolic opening of a new door. I strive to be present, recognize beauty, project love, and be extremely grateful for my life. Each person I meet reinforces my belief in a world full of love and kindness and every new friend makes it a better place. Traveling has been my most valuable education. Places I have traveled: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Wales
