We had a wonderful stay at peaceful, serene Casale il Caggio! It's a little hard to find from the Autostrada, but after some trial and error driving on gravel roads around corn and sunflower fields, we found it! The room is in the typical Tuscan country style and the grounds were gorgeous. Paolo keeps sheep, goats, chickens, pigeons, and canaries, and it's fun to be around a working farm if you're city folk like us. During our stay, we mostly enjoyed being lazy in the yard reading while petting their extremely friendly dog, Peppa. (They have 2 others - one is 20 years old! - and a cat.) The best part of all was Paolo's mineral hot tub jacuzzi, which we tried to stay in as much as possible. You'll absolutely love it! Gabriella, his wife, was very nice and we both took her amazing cooking class in the kitchen. It's definitely worth it to watch a master at work, but warning: do not eat all day before the dinner! You're going to want to have an empty stomach, since it's 8 whole courses! We were absolutely stuffed! Basically, if you're looking to get away from it all, slow down, and experience life in the Tuscan countryside, this is the place to do it. Highly recommended!
Lovely old farmhouse. Delicious dinner. The pool and spa are beautiful! Unfortunately on the night we stayed the cooking lesson wasn't available which was quite disappointing as this was one of the reasons for booking but the dinner that night was delicious regardless.
I booked Paolo and Gabriella's B&B based on the great reviews and the fact that it had a hot tub and a pool, as my family had requested, but we got so much more! I cannot say enough about the beauty and peacefulness of the location, and how Fabulous the food was! Paolo loves his farm, and you can tell it is his passion. Gabriella loves to cook, and the food was amazing! We asked for vegetarian dinners, and she provided a large array of dishes for us. Breakfast was an unbelievable assortment of home made cakes, fruits, yogurt, cappucino, juice, cheese...a very substantial way to start the day.
Paolo has spent quite a bit of time renovating his farm house, built hundreds of years ago, and the surrounding buildings. It is updated and modern in the important ways (bathrooms) but still has loads of Tuscan Farmhouse Charm. Gabriella tops it off with a collection of vintage and antique linens and curtains in every room. The rooms were clean, the showers had plenty of hot water, and the location was central to so many hill towns we wanted to visit; Siena, Cortona, Arezzo, Civitella. We were so busy we never even had time for the pool! I hope to return soon and bring my husband for a bike weekend.
Be sure to plan in a bit of extra time, as you can become quite relaxed sitting in the lounge chairs, lazing in the sunshine as it soaks into your bones, letting it rejuvenate and refresh you!
This place is fantastic! The rooms are comfortable and the countryside around this typical Tuscan building is amazing. We extremely enjoyed the salty bath inside and we are looking forward to try the pool when we will be back.
The best side: Gabriella's cooking. The breakfast was simply full of fresh homemade cakes and other delicious dishes she prepared in the morning just for us. The dinner was also great, plenty of vegetarian options inspired by the local kitchen from Tuscany. Definitely recommended if you need relax, healthy and tasty food and the company of two very welcoming hosts.
My mum and I had a great time here in Tuscany. The warmth of Paolo and his wife were wonderful! The property is beautiful and set amongst the real beauty of Tuscany and many cities are only an easy drive away. The homemade cooking and food was a highlight- better than any of the restaurants in our week in Italy. And Paolo was so helpful when our GPS wasn't working, driving with us to the local town and helping us! Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. Truly wonderful stay!
This was the BEST part of our Italy trip. The dinners were made by Gabriella with such care- using ingredients from their farm- they were literally the best meals I have ever had in my life. In addition to the excellent dinners, Paulo & Gabriella and their dogs lala, pepa and tommy were wonderful to be around and very weloming. It felt like we were invited into their home. My husband and I relaxed in the garden amidst a beautiful Tuscan landscape.
Our room was above the kitchen and it was clean, picturesque, and had a gorgeous view of the countryside.
There was plenty of places to walk and I was able to go swimming 3 days that I was there.
We went for walks around the countryside and even bought honey straight from a bee farm.
Il Casale offers wine on tap and has a very inviting atmosphere. I only wish that it was closer so that we could come more often!
Gabriella and Paolo are so welcoming and great hosts. They took care of as if we were at home. The place is amazing with lots of pets and farm animals. Landscape is stuning. The rooms are very comfortable and clean.
The food, OMG the food. Gabriella is an AMAZING cook, she makes miracles. She also gives cooking classes. I would strongly recommed their place and looking forward to make another visit.
