Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Abbey Rd, Clarkdale, AZ 86326, United States

The Space

Mescal Canyon Retreat is part of our 22 acre property, Candlewood, in the central high desert of Arizona. We are located in the middle of the Verde Valley wine county, 18 miles from Sedona. Our property consists of our Main House, the Casita (caretakers house), 2 separate B&B rooms in an adjacent stone building, a Massage Studio, a Dance and Workshop Studio and my Architectural office. The entire property is "off the grid"which means we produce all of our electricity from photovoltaic panels. All of the buildings are built with GREEN and SUSTAINABLE materials. We have a large organic garden, a small flock of chickens and recently planted a 100 vine vineyard. Our property is bound on 3 sides by National Forest and 1 side by private land. We are located at the end of the road at the mouth of Mescal Canyon.
Mescal Canyon Retreat has two private B&B Rooms in a hand built stone building. The Gold Room has a private bath, king size bed and private patio with its own entrance from the outside. The Retreat also offers the Sage Room, with a queen bed, and can be booked in addition to, or instead of, the Gold Room, if desired. Please see separate listing on AirBnB for the Sage Room.
Both rooms have access to the Hot Tub Terrace and Hot Tub. This terrace is private with a wood burning fireplace and a wonderful view into the National Forest and Mingus Mountain. It is the best place on the property for star gazing.
Guests are served delicious organic breakfasts each morning of their stay. We provide organic coffee and teas, and serve eggs from our own chickens.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Sage room. I could tell that every detail was done with love and care. The property is beautiful and the hot tub under the stars and the hike into the canyon the next day were the highlights of my stay. Rennie and Andrea were great hosts. They gave me lots of space and privacy as well as a really lovely breakfast with them and nice conversation. A perfect balance. The dogs and cats really add a nice homey feel and were great fun for me as well. I only wish I could have stayed more than one night. Next time I will book a longer stay.

  • A great off-the-grid getaway! It way cool, quiet, and very relaxing. The hot tub is private and solar powered. Very hot! It was a great experience under the stars. The room was a great size and managed to stay cool in the heat. The bed is very big and comfortable! The hosts were friendly but allow for privacy. They make a fantastic homemade breakfast right from there farm. Not far from Sedona (about 25 min drive) makes it convenient but without the hectic tourists.

  • We spent one lovely night with Rennie and Andrea in the Gold Room. The room is very comfortable, extremely quiet, and we enjoyed having a glass of wine in the hot tub under the starts. Andrea fixed us a wonderful breakfast which we enjoyed with their family. Their retreat is very close to many attractions so you can visit things while you're there. We visited the Tuzigoot ruins and then went to Jerome to explore the little, old mining town, as well as drove to Sedona. This is a wonderful place to stay, and much less expensive and touristy than Sedona.

  • This was an amazing way to spend our honeymoon! We had a very peaceful stay and enjoyed meeting our hosts and their sweet animals. The land is spectacular, the photos don't do this place justice- this place is built on 30 plus years of love and dedication. The retreat was an inspiration, we will be back!!

  • Amazing place! Hosts are very friendly but also give you your space. They had a great dog and even a brand new puppy to play with. There is a great hike right out of their vineyard. About 10 mintes to Cottonwood and Jerome. The hot tub and adjacent fireplace create one of the most romantic spaces I have found in AZ. Delicious organic, home grown breakfast each morning. Highly, highly recommended!

  • What an incredible weekend! Rennie and Andrea have really made the most wonderful retreat. Our room was private, had it's own bathroom, and was really beautiful. We used the hot tub all three nights to watch the sunset and stargaze, which was incredibly peaceful, tucked away in the canyon. Moki and the two cats were so friendly and adorable and always around to welcome us home at night. And, of course, the morning breakfasts were a treat! Over the three mornings we had fresh fruit, gluten free pancakes, eggs from their hens, yogurt, hashbrowns, skillet cornbread and coffee! Andrea and Rennie are such kind and helpful hosts, and had a plethora of knowledge on hikes, activities in the area and restaurants. We followed both of their dinner recommendations and had two amazing meals!

By far one of the best airbnb's you will find, and at an incredible price. I will definitely be back next time I am in Sedona!

  • We had a wonderful time at the Mescal Canyon Retreat. Very private, warm and comfortable room set on the very outskirts of Cottonwood (less light pollution that you might think - great for star gazing!) Rennie and Andrea were really great conversationalists during 2 yummy organic/vegetarian breakfasts & they told us about the surrounding area and what restaurants to check out. We stayed there for New Years Eve and just soaked in their hot tub and made a fire. (Yes there is even a fireplace right next to the Jacuzzi!~) We were also led on a hike by their charismatic dog Moki. We have seen 2 dozen shooting stars and are completely relaxed, we can't wait to return.

  • What an amazing place. We took in the stars from the hot tub and took a tour around the property with Rennie and Andrea's dog Moki. They've built a very peaceful, beautiful retreat. We would definitely stay here again. Oh and the breakfast was delicious!!

  • We had an excellent stay. The staff was helpful in directing us to the location and very welcoming. Rennie and his wife have an amazing property that is close to Cottonwood but feels very secluded and peaceful. The room was comfortable and we had everything we needed. We really enjoyed taking a soak in the hot tub and enjoying its incredible view of the stars! A pleasant and tasty breakfast with items from their garden set us straight in the morning. The staff here are available and pleasant but not overbearing; exactly what we were looking for. Overall a top notch stay!

  • My boyfriend and I had so much fun staying at Rennie and Andrea's Bed & Breakfast. Everything was as I imagined it. Clean, private, and peaceful. Rennie and Andrea are such kind, generous people. We especially enjoyed conversations with them, using the hot tub, their dog, Mokie, and the delicious organic breakfast in the morning. Plus we both got 1 1/2 hour massages from Andrea which was such a relaxing touch to our stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to come back on our next trip back to AZ!
