Really great little condo just north of Downtown Chicago in the historic Uptown Neighborhood.
8 min bus ride to Michigan Ave
15 min walk to Andersonville
5 min walk to the beach
10 min train ride to Boystown
The bedroom is our extra room and has been converted to our office. We have one Deluxe single Airbed available. The room and our condo are smallish, but actually quite cozy.
We also have two lovable siamese cats named Chloe and Clementine. They are very friendly and sweet.
Uptown is a historically rich neighborhood. For over a century, Uptown has been a popular Chicago entertainment district, which played a significant role in ushering in the Gilded Age, the Lyceum Movement, the jazz age, the silent film era, the swing era, the big band era, the rock and roll era, has been a filming location for over 480 movies, has ties to significant spectator sport athletes and organizations, including the Chicago Blackhawks and three Olympic figure skaters, as well as theater, comedy clubs, dance performers who later became nationally famous, and even "The People's Music School," a needs-based, tuition-free music school for formal classical music training.
A very popular tourist destination, the Uptown Entertainment District is home to various music venues, nightclubs, restaurants and shops. The Uptown Entertainment District is now experiencing a revival, with new restaurants and shops opening every year. Uptown Square, at the center of the Uptown Entertainment District, was designated as a National Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Uptown is also a stop for Chicago Gangster tours, with many locations tied to infamous gangsters such as John Dillinger, Al Capone, Machine Gun Jack McGurn, Roger "The Terrible" Touhy and others. Venues include: the Aragon Ballroom, the Riviera Theater, the Uptown Theatre, Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, Argyle street Asian restaurants and shops, the Rainbo, the Arcadia Ballroom and the 5100 Club.
Brandon and Dominic were excellent hosts - and their place was very nice (especially the remodeled bathroom). I spent most of my trip sightseeing and didn't get to enjoy the area around their home...but it was a great place to come and wind down after a long day of walking. The rail line is just a short walk down the street, and I felt safe walking there even late at night (although as they suggest, always stay alert as it is the city). Although Brandon was out of town during the first part of my trip, both him and Dominic were very responsive to texts/emails when it came time to checking in and it was nice to be able to chat with them on Sunday night. I will definitely consider staying with them again on future trips to Chicago!
I stayed in the Makeup Studio Room for almost 3 months as I was in Chicago completing some internships. I can't say enough about how fabulous my stay with Brandon and Dominic was. From the very beginning, Brandon was a prompt communicator, which made things very easy as I planned my trip into Chicago.
The room and condo are located in the diverse and fun Uptown area of Chicago, and it is very easy access public transportation within just a couple of blocks (the red line and multiple bus lines) that will pretty much connect you to anywhere in the city. It is also very close to the beach/Lake Michigan, which I also had the pleasure of visiting a few times.
The room and condo are very clean, and it is clear that Brandon and Dominic take pride in offering a great experience to guests. The home is equipped with a dishwasher and laundry machines, and you can even use their cooking equipment, blow dryers, iron, etc. Brandon and Dominic also have umbrellas and other gear that you can borrow if needed for weather conditions. We had many great chats and adventures throughout my stay, and I now consider them great friends. Both guys are also very knowledgeable about the area, so it was nice to learn about the city from people who are more familiar with it. I even had a fun time chatting with Chloe and Clementine, who are the cutest cats in the world - they're very social and can carry on conversations as well. :)
At times, I had a pretty demanding schedule, so it was nice to be able to come home to a clean and comfortable place and have nice friends to chat with, otherwise simply relax or retire to my room if I was tired and needing some alone time. I also appreciate that the husbands even allowed me to stay a few extra days so I could enjoy the city after my internships/graduation.
This was a very memorable experience for me, and I would highly recommend staying with Brandon and Dominic if you are in the area.
Brandon and Dominic were great hosts. They pointed me to a great cafe in Wrigleyville for dinner and helped me book my early morning cab. The location of their apartment is great. The room and their apartment is clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. Definitely recommend!
Brandon and Dominic are excellent hosts! I'm so happy to have found them for my stay in Chicago to run the marathon. Their place is comfortable and conveniently located, near train, bus and bike/running paths. They provide great recommendations for where to explore and are just overall friendly and inviting hosts. They even set their coffee maker to brew us coffee for our 4 am wake up call for the Chicago Marathon! Hope to see you two running next year!
Thanks Dom and Brandon for welcoming us into your home! The location was perfect for us as we parked our car and never used it for the whole 3 days we were there and the bus was only $5.25/24hrs (or $14.25 for 3days). Thank you for the 2page information sheet you created, as we ate at Tweet and it had a very good brunch (and was jam packed) and we liked Andersonville, it had a great vibe and some cool shops.
Brandon, Dominic, Chloe and Clementine are terrific hosts. Their apartment is impeccably kept and the room is comfortable. It's also a great location, near the lake and the CTA Red Line. (Only a 10 minute ride to Magnificent Mile area.) Andersonville is walking distance as well. Chicago doesn't really have a "city center" the way European cities do. It's made up of interesting neighborhoods. The only drawback to the room is that there was some noise from upstairs neighbors in the middle of the night - so earplugs might be advisable.
Brandon and Dominic were great hosts and very flexible with my arrival and departure times. The apartment is spotlessly clean, the kitties adorable and the bed was the most comfortable I've had at an Airbnb. Easy walking distance to grocery store, restaurants, bus and train. (If you are using the train be sure to check whether the Argyle station is still closed or not - still easy access from Berwyn but a bit longer walk.) I'd gladly stay here again. Thanks Brandon and Dominic!
Brandon and Dom were sweet hosts and gave me a lot of freedom with using all the kitchen & entertainment stations in their place. I loved the lofty feeling of the whole place and would definitely recommend you stay here! I did have an incident the first night I arrived but it was quickly resolved and Brandon and Dom were able to help me out tremendously. A truly lovely pair of hosts and beautiful city to capture. :)
I wanted to travel somewhere by myself for the first time and thought it would be neat to try out AirBnB. My stay was super short, but I just loved Brandon and Dominic's place. So adorable and impeccably clean. I LOVED their home. I didn't get a chance to really see either of them very much, but from my brief encounters they were really warm and the place had great energy!
My trip to Chicago was actually amazing and I believe a huge part of it was the energy at the Makeup Studio Room.
I would definitely stay there again and use AirBnB.
Brandon is really nice guy. We coudn't talk much cause I was visiting all day. The appartment is well connected by the METRO and buses but is just a lil bit far away from the LOOP (City Center).
The appartment is really clean and the two cats will make you feel home as Brandon do too.
Although in many foreign cities the 'city center' is where everything is happening...Chicago is a very, very large city with many neighborhoods filled with night life, entertainment and history...and we live ridiculously close to (and in) many of these neighborhoods. The LOOP is basically just our financial and business district without many attractions and is quite boring after about 5:00pm. But, if you did want to go there, it is only 7 miles (11.3 kilometers) from our house...not all that far after all...
