Fall asleep to the sound of the Pacific Ocean waves after watching seals, otters, countless bird species, sunsets and even an occasional spouting whale from the hot tub. Our beautiful, light, and spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bath home has an open floor plan and lots of natural stone and wood. It is in a stunning location where the Mad River meets the Pacific Ocean, between Arcata and Trinidad. Our home is on an acre of land, with the western boundary being the middle of the Mad River. Bring your paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes; or just enjoy a picnic in the yard by the river. Walking/riding trails and beach access are within a few steps or pedals. Five minutes to Beau Pre Golf Course and ten minutes to ocean fishing (clams, crabs, salmon, bottom fish, etc.). Jeff even fly fishes for steelhead behind the house in the fall! Diane's home was absolutely beautiful, from the flower garden in the front yard, to the gorgeous vista out back, and the roomy interior! She certainly made us feel welcome with fresh flowers and chocolates!! We were celebrating our son's Phd. and our children had flown in from across the country. I was nervous about my choice of home, until the kids whooped hurrah! We all loved it. The house was roomy, had everything we needed, including a piano for some memory-lane duets from my kids (glad to hear all those piano lessons paid off!). We all enjoyed sitting on the back deck or in the hot tub and watching the sun set, and wildlife on the Mad River. It was a delightful place to stay. Diane provided a book with lots of ideas of things to do and places to eat. I just wanted to get back to her home each day and enjoy the view out back!
Both Diane and her husband, I'm sorry I can't recall your name, were both very welcoming and friendly. The neighborhood is nice and there is a wonderful walking path just down the street.
The house was just perfect for our family visit to the Redwoods. The house was very comfortable for the two adults and seven children (ages 4-12). There were many games and books available for children and adults during our downtime. Everything we could have needed was available and we were only a short drive to stores, restaurants and anything else we could have needed. The neighborhood was friendly, with neighbors waving hello as we drove by. We had a wonderful time and have already recommended the house to friends traveling to the area later this year.
The view from the house was wonderful. The only issue we had was there was no wifi or 4G and the LTE coverage was spotty at best. We did not expect this and found ourselves having to drive into town where the LTE was more reliable to research restaurants and hiking trails we could head to each day. Not a deal breaker or anything, just be prepared.
We had an amazing time at Diane and Jeff's Mckinleyville oasis. Beautiful view and home. Everything was in order and easy to deal with. D & J were great hosts. We were lucky enough to get to meet them before we left. Hope to make it back with the family for the summer steelhead run!
We had a great experience! This is a wonderful place - even better than the pictures! Everything you need is there - a great kitchen, cozy areas to enjoy the magnificent scenery and even some board games. Everyone really was impressed by the master bathroom! We would definitely come back.
The house was beautiful and the view stunning! The kitchen was very well appointed (we made Thanksgiving dinner for 8 and couldn't have asked for a better set up). Start to finish it was a wonderful experience.
