Historic 1880 Wooden Shoe Factory by Wooden Shoe Maker Gerhard Deymann. A great getaway Tiny House from the past with a Bar & Books. Please take some & leave some :-) Fully furnished. Tons of charm. It has a loft, luggage lift, exposed brick/beams, fireplace, bikes, antiques, front sitting area, swing, grill, back patio, yard, private parking, appliances, vaulted ceilings. 6 minutes to I57, I70, Effingham, & dozens of restaurants. 1 block to 7 Teutopolis Bars, & diners.

The space
The home is setup for couples and for business people as well. The internet is fast and a large smart tv is available with movies, Roku, Netflix, & Prime. There is a comfy queen bed, a single roll away bed (as requested) for teens or kids, a new full size couch that reclines, and an 1800's Murphy bed for teens or kids. Bedding is included for all. The bedroom is up a pretty steep, narrow spiral staircase to an open loft with beautiful antique furniture, exposed brick, and a luggage hoist! This was a small brick wooden shoe factory during the late 1800's and through the Great Depression. We continue to restore and improve this home and property almost daily. My grandmother purchased the home after the builder died. The walls are made from 2 layers of brick (the builder also made the brick). The foundation was hand dug and made from local gathered stone, brick and mortar. The ceiling joists are 6"x8" hardwood boards cut from the local trees. The spiral stair case was hand made. We are starting to decorate the home with historic photos of the property an hudreds of wooden shoes. It is one of the oldest remaining homes in Effingham County. The entire house is yours! The onsite washer and dryer are free when the house next door is not booked and so is the Tide soap, coffee, creamer, water, and bathroom items are all included as is the continental style breakfast 1st night. We don't recommend for very small childen because of spiral stairs and fireplace.

Neighborhood highlights

The neighborhood is super safe. It's a small, extremely clean little town with hard working friendly people. It has a lot of German Heritage and the town is well known for sports (the Wooden Shoes, named from the homes builder/owner/ wooden shoe maker). There is a lot of night life uptown 1 block away if you wish, with a couple restaurants (the Brick Bat Bar and Grill is my favorite). The city of Effingham is right next door at 4 miles away and has multiple wineries, theater, dozens of restaurants, bike trails, and more.
