I have stayed in two of Maria's rooms, the first one was number 7 which was nice with a nice living room, however if you are not very good with soft mattresses this is not the room for you. Furthermore you should be aware there is a lot of noise outside during the weekends and sometimes also weekdays with a lot of not very sober people singing and shouting until 4 o'c in the morning, the price you clearly pay for being this central. Maria's room number 1, where I have also stayed, is her smallest, but charming and the mattress is nice and firm.
I unfortunately had relatively bad communication with the host throughout the booking process, who most of the time seemed too busy to give me any correct and clear answers, and when I arrived to the building after many hours of travelling from London, Maria had not given me the right codes for the key boxes and blamed it on the fact that I had had another booking before the one I had now, an argument I didn't get as things should of course be ready and arranged for any new situation, I had to find a place to get internet connection to find her number and call her and getting into my room was delayed by at least 30 minutes. All in all I will recommend Maria's rooms, but the communication process has to be much more respectful than it was in my case.
This comment is so funny.
All my guest get very detailed instruction before they come so they know everything.
Birgitta send me 35 emails about nothing and I always answer her back.
She was asking for a room that was already booked and she was trying to get the room anyhow and it end with I moved the other guest to make her happy.
She was trying to barge about the price even she had a big discount.
She was always changing her mind about how long she was staying and adding more nights.
The gust that was there stepped wet on the shower mat......
She was complaining about the guest that was coming, she emailed me she was not pre pared for them because she had to have quiet in the apartment so she could write.....She had the whole apartment for her self for few days even she only booked on room that she even didn't want to pay for because her budget was so low....
I am very disappointed to get this kind of comment from Birgitta because I tried to please her as much as I could but nothing was good enough for her...
Well I am happy that I don't get this kind of guest often (the only one now).
Hope you all well
Stayed at Maria's for 2 days while we laid over on our trip to Europe. Everything was as stated, and it's a great spot in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. Everything is close by, and you can take the bus from the airport close by. Just get dropped off at the Hotel 101 stop, it's a very short 2 block walk, even with our heavy luggage. The rooms were clean, kitchenette nicely stocked with dishes, Wi-Fi provided, and there were even chocolates on our pillows.
This would be a great spot for a large group or family if you could manage to get all the rooms and kitchen upstairs as well. Balcony view is nice.
As for the noise complaints, it is on a busy strip and I could see it getting loud on the weekends but Wednesday and Thursday was find for us. The windows do close and there are earplugs provided if needed.
Would recommend this place to anyone coming to Reykjavik.
Fully equipped kitchen, and very accommodating host. Room was very compact and so is the bathroom, but very nice location.
Awesome apartment overlooking the main thoroughfare. We made our own meals. Everything we needed was in the kitchen. Beds & pillows really comfortable. No complaints at all. Loved it.
We had a great time in Iceland made even better by the central location of Maria's apartment accommodation. We were first a bit concerned about shared kitchen and bath areas, but it worked out well...in fact it gave us the chance to meet a couple of amazing guests from Germany. The apartment is centrally located and although there's a bit of street noise, you're in Iceland after all...it's a place to enjoy yourself and party.
Superb apartment - very clean and comfortable. Loved the location - very central in downtown Reykjavik.
We highly recommend this place. Maria is very responsive and accommodating to any issues that arise. My friend left his ipad in the apartment the day we checked out, and she graciously mailed it back to him! The apartments were clean and well-stocked. The location downtown was perfect. I would definitely choose to stay there again if I return to Iceland!

Hey there! I am a native of Icelandic and have been living in Reykjavik all my life. I travel quite a bit for work and for pleasure and whether I'm in town or not, I love hosting people from all over the world. My interests include working (a lot) connecting with all kinds of different people, music, food (I eat a lot), interior decorating, and expanding my world view either by visiting new cities or having great conversations with interesting and inspiring people. I like things clean and organized and I live to have good time with friends. Fun is the spice of life!
I am in the music business. I run my own music school with 250 students all age from children to adult and they learn how to be a pop singer.:-)
I am also song writer and producer. I produce show for children on TV.
I travel in Iceland in summer time with my motorhome and go to the warm places in winter time.
I love scuba diving, water skiing listen to good music and eat good food.
