Where you’ll be

Lake Placid, Florida, United States

Lake Placid is the Caladium Capital of the World, also known as the Town of Murals and has great bass fishing. Downtown Lake Placid is quaint and has a handful of restaurants and shops. Sammy's pizza, American Breakfast, Blueberry Patch Boutique and more.

BLIND MOSQUITOS (aquatic midges)

If you are staying with us any time between April - November you may experience our friends, the very annoying – however harmless – blind mosquito. Don’t let the name fool you, they don’t bite.

I wish I could tell you when they will be here, how long they will stay and when they will be gone. However, that is not possible. During the warmer months you will experience them every so often – however they only live a day or so.

It is also not possible to treat them. Extensive research has been carried out on the use of insecticides against aquatic midges. Because the larvae live on the lake or river bottom, they are extremely difficult and costly to kill. The entire volume of water must be treated to provide effective control. Lake Placid is big.

If you do happen to be here while they are around, please know they are harmless, they like to sit on the grass, very little on the beach / dock, and are attracted to light (turn the back lights off).
