"There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort" - Jane Austen
Looking for a place to hang your fighting trousers* while in DC? Enjoy the entire 1 bedroom apartment with private patio during your stay, filled with books, paintings, antiques, and found-objects from our travels. Our home is in a converted 1820s row house on a gorgeous, historic, tree-lined street of stately Georgian townhouses.
Steps from shops and restaurants, you are around the corner from the internationally famous Georgetown Cupcake shop. Take a walk on the canal, or enjoy the museums and monuments of Washington DC, all of which are within easy distance of the apartment. We are also two blocks from Georgetown University's campus if you are visiting to check out their programs. We are also close to George Washington University, the National Cathedral, and the Kennedy Center.
We are down the street from three John F. Kennedy landmarks: Billy Martin's Tavern, where he proposed to Jackie; the house where he announced his candidacy for President; and the house he lived in as a Senator.
The bedroom is silent from any street-noise, and the mattress is full-sized and entirely made of memory foam on antique brass bed.
The kitchen is cozy and fully stocked with cookware, cleaning supplies, and lots of spices. If you visit us in summer, you can help yourselves to the fresh herbs we grow on our patio. We love to prepare for dinner parries using our collection of vintage Le Creuset enamel cookware or use the gas grill outside, which are all yours during your stay, unless you want to check our the many restaurants in the neighborhood.
Enjoy tranquility in the middle of the city, we do not have a television, so you can really get away from it all! We do, however, have reliable Wi-Fi for your use during your stay.
Come live like a local for a weekend in this historic neighborhood, we'll even leave you a list of our favorite places to eat, drink and shop!
Our calendar is up-to-date through July 2015, if you would like to book a room beyond that please message us first.
We give preference to people with previous reviews and complete profiles. Guests should keep in mind that this is our primary residence. One of the best things about Airbnb is that you get to live in someone else's house - this also means, however, that if you are looking for a sterile, hotel-like rental property, this will not be a good fit. This is a smoke-free, pet free household, but if you have allergies to dust, etc., please let us know before booking.
Pricing: We deeply value accessibility in travel - but when a hotel room in DC costs an average of $230 a night and the nearest hotel to our home is $600 a night, this often means that few people can afford a stay in our neighborhood. Keeping this in mind, we set our price at $120 a night in the hopes that more people can afford a weekend in the neighborhood that we love so much.
You may park on the street overnight between 9 pm- 7 am for free without penalty. During the day, between 7 am- 9 pm street parking is free for two hours, but you will need to move your car after that. If you would like to leave your car untouched for your entire stay, the closest 24 hour garage is the Georgetown Court Parking, only two blocks away, at 3251 Prospect St NW for about $25 a day.
*look it up. It summarizes our sense of aesthetics.
- Fireplace is decorative, please do not use.
- Check in is 2 pm, check out is 11 am, unless otherwise arranged.
My friend and I stayed at Laura and Chris's place for an academic conference at Georgetown and the place was absolutely perfect for us in terms of convenience getting to the university as well as around the Georgetown neighborhood. Their instructions were easy to follow, there was no trouble with anything and we felt very right at home from the moment we arrived. It's also located in beautiful area in walking distance to restaurants/bars and grocery stores and Laura and Chris provide a guest book with recommendations for everything you'll need in DC from eating to sightseeing and they have really gone out of their way to think of everything you might need. The place was exactly as pictured in the photos and has a lot of character, overall a great Airbnb experience!
Communication with Laura and Chris was excellent; their instructions were very clear and prompt. Georgetown was a perfect location. It is filled with cute shops and cafes. We loved walking by the river and canal. It was convenient for the conference I was going to at Georgetown University... and for beating the queue at Georgetown Cupcakes!!
The flat is full of character and the perfect size for a couple. Our only issue was cleanliness. The bin was smelly and a few other spots in the flat needed a bit of TLC.
Otherwise we had a great stay. I was there for a few days on my own and as a single woman traveller I felt safe and secure.
Everything was wonderful! Laura and Chris were very communicative, and easy to reach. The street parking was initially easy, although because of impending wintry weather we parked in a nearby garage. Within easy walking distance we found superb restaurants, bakeries, and a good bookstore.
Their apartment was charming and much roomier than the photos inidcated, with an excellent mattress with plenty of warm blankets (it was really cold outside!)
Next time we travel to DC, this will be our first choice! Thank you!
Laura's and Chris's place couldn't be more conveniently located or perfectly suited to exploring Georgetown. It's cozy, clean and smartly decorated and the hosts made our stay very easy with good communication. Couldn't recommend more highly!
Chris is very responsive and considerable. Their home locates at the heart area of historical Georgetown. Very convenient to University of Georgetown, shopping, dining, public transportation.... The home is very clean and full of ancient furniture collections which made us like transferring back to that era, cool... Definitely recommend this place!
Laura was great at accommodating my needs! Although our travel plans never allowed us to meet, she had a great set up to have me let myself in and check out. They left me detailed instructions about their expectations of me cleaning up, but only after I enjoyed anything in the fridge and their french pressed coffee. In the same binder they provided me with tips about how to get around and where to visit in the city. This was my first visit to DC, so I really appreciated a local's advice. Their enthusiasm about the area is well justified, because it has beautiful victorian row apartments and great views of the Potomac River, in a place where I felt safe with lots of college students jogging or bike riding on every corner. The only flaw that I found with the place is something that cannot be avoided in the area; I struggled with the sounds. I traveled alone on this trip, so every move the neighbors made freaked me out, but the worst was the sounds of the airplanes over head. It was great that I had a quick train ride to and from the airport, but be aware that you will hear the planes at night.
Overall, I had a wonderful visit! I recommend this place to anyone who wants a true Georgetown experience. You're close to great places to eat, sight see, and visit Georgetown University.
We've always wanted to stay in one of Geogetown's brick rowhouses nestled on a safe, beautiful, tree-lined street. Chris and Laura made that happen for us.
We're impressed that Chris greeted us and immediately answered our questions. Their guidebook was helpful,
especially the restaurant listings. We
appreciate the complimentary coffee
with numerous places nearby to pick up
an easy breakfast the nights before to
go with it each morning, making it feel
We were a 5-minute walk away from
one of the most colorful, vibrant
downtowns in the US. The Circulator
bus and cabs were perfect for our trips
We've made a find we'd recommend and hope to revisit. We'll take Chris and Laura's nice touches, like fresh flowers and funky neckties as curtain tiebacks to the sterile hotel environment anytime!
We currently live in the nation's capital, but have a wanderlust that AirBnb satiates. We both love to cook, bike, and work in education!
