Our Moulin in its remote setting in the wild Corbieres is really special. Often its busy with creative and gardening projects. We can comfortably host a couple or a single person in either of our bedrooms. Lovely views of the hills and mill stream.

The Space

Hello and welcome to the Moulin de la Conque, an artists house.

Two light and simple rooms are available in this authentically restored water mill ( double bed). It is nestled in spectacular natural landscape in the Gorges d'Orbieu, in the Hautes Corbieres near a tiny village perched on the hill,Montjoi.
The room overlooks the mill stream and surrounding mountains.

Or take advantage of the beautiful hikes in an unspoilt landscape, go eagle watching or simply walk through the field in summer to swim in clear river water.
Or just be inspired, being happy contemplating and breathing in the fresh mountain air!
Or join in with the activities happening here. There are often Woofers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) working in the organic vegetable garden.

You can enjoy full use of lounging areas and outside terraced and grasses areas around the Moulin.
Breakfast is organic bread and home-made jam. Special dietary needs can be catered for. Picnics available in advance. As are simple and tasty lunch or evening meals using local and garden produce. Vegetarien meals are the moulins speciality!
One of the charms at being at the moulin is that you are immersed in Nature.
The nearest big towns are roughly 60kms away, Carcassonne, Narbonne and Perpignan. Within easy car distance are Cathar castles, rock climbing and rafting.
Free Wi-fi. A private study/work room can be reserved.
Own transport is advised and binoculars for the spectacular wildlife.

The Moulin de la Conque, is nestled in a valley in the Corbieres hills. It overlooks the mill stream. There are 2 double rooms with a double bed.

  • I had a WONDERFUL stay with Zoe at her beautiful paradise home. It was deeply relaxing, friendly, family-like.. the vegetarian food that she and her lovely daughter prepared for me was out of this world. There is an ABUNDANCE of natural beauty within walking distance from the house, waterfalls, springs, swimming holes....
Fresh fruit and organic vegetables abounding. Just LUSCIOUS! x

  • This is an amazing place, and the host was absolutely wonderful. We loved the place so much that we stayed an extra night, and still weren't ready to leave! Delicious dinners are available every night If you want to join in, and a free breakfast with coffee in the morning awaits after your peaceful night sleep to the soothing sounds of the flowing river below. The location is incredible, surrounded by amazing hikes, a private/secluded swim hole, and countless small, idyllic villages a short drive away. A short hike to rolling fields of wild thyme and wild strawberries, are you kidding me?! This is a true gem, we highly recommend it!

  • Zoë was a very friendly and welcoming host. The first night we had a spontaneous dinner together in the garden, which was really tasty (but not included, though). The mill was beautifully located in the 'valley of the thousand greens', as Zoë called it. Expect and old and squeaky but charming house, flowers, bees, locally produced goats cheese, windy roads, small villages (the nearest supermarket is a 10-15 min drive) and the peaceful non-stop sound of flowing water. Especially recommended when the weather is nice, so you can go outside and relax, explore or just enjoy the surroundings.

  • It is a very nice area, full of nature with possibilities of nice walks. There is a nice oven in the kitchen, like in the old times. We fill at home.
Breakfeast was good and Zoe is very kind

Excellent place and excellent hosts. With a basic infraestructure, Zoe and Jacob Redman provide a wonderful experience in an unspoiled french rural area. The shared-bath room is placed in an old mill with breathtaking views of the hills around and within a stone throw of an almost private river pool, ideal for swiming (yes, swiming!) after a hot day. At a very reasonable price you can also order meals from them (they are excellent cooks), prepared with produce from their own garden (tomatoes, lettuces, onions, figs...). The mill is located in the midst of the Cathar area, so from there you are near such attractive places as Carcassone, Peyrepertuse, Quéribus, the gorges of Galamus and dozens of lovely villages, full of gastronomic temptations (wine, cheese and the rest of the features of the French cuisine). We stayed there 10 days and found time lacking to see all the places we wanted to visit. All in all, this is a highly recommended place if you want to experience how healthy and quite life can be in a rural French setting, and also to share part of your time with the friendly English-French family who hosts the place (and maybe with some of the wwoofers who help them out with the garden).

Welcome to the Moulin de la Conque. I came to rural France over 20 years ago from London with my two young children. Leaving behind family, friends and my creative career.Over the years continuing my artistic pursuits and deepening my knowledge and connection in living in the wilds!! My children are now grown-up and love it here too. They both invest lots of energy and time making it the vibrant and thriving place it is and will continue to become. Both love the organic garden and this year we are preparing for...a non stop flow of delicious vegetables...which we can offer to our Airbnb guests. Delightfully it is always much appreciated. Gratitude to Airbnb for bringing such lovely guests here that enjoy and share our simple and eccentric way of life. For those who would like to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life ... here is a perfect place to land !! Theres lots to visit ...the Cathar castles, villages like Rennes le Chateau or Bugarach full of history and mystery. A wonderful place to hike. The Moulin de la Conque in its inspiring setting is the home to my passions; art, meditation, music, organic gardening, eco-living, sustainability and exchanging with people on a heart to heart level. You are welcome to share ....
