Our 100 year old home is in the heart of downtown Ithaca. Creative design, interesting art, fun antiques, and rich with character. We provide a clean, safe, friendly and convenient place from which to explore Ithaca and Central NY.
You will find your private room to be comfortable and clean with fresh filtered water, a twin trundle bed and fun antique furniture. Located on the second floor, room amenities include a mirror, nightstand, reading chair, lamps, and a desk & chair. We provide clean sheets, towels and slippers. The closet has enough room to hang anything you might need and to store a moderate amount of luggage.
The photos shown are of the bed as a twin, with the other twin bed stored underneath. The trundle option allows for use of a separate second twin bed with a twin mattress that pulls out next to, and slightly below the existing twin bed. Using both mattresses will take up most of the space at that end of the room, making things extra cozy. As each twin mattress sleeps one person, this room is ideal for a single person, an adult and child, or two traveling together that don't mind having separate beds.
Shared bathroom is only feet away with a large tub, spacious layout, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer and towels. The half bathroom is located on the first floor, with hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
Guests have access to the first and second floor of our home, and share the full bathroom on the second floor and the half bathroom on the first floor. We (Alexis and Mark) have a private living space and bathroom on the third floor.
This is a 100 year old home and sometimes you may hear other guests walking upstairs. It's likely that most of the time you won't hear anyone, but it is something to be aware of.
Guests are provided a key to use during their stay. In addition to a furnished bedroom and central location, you will enjoy the comfort of our historic home w/ hardwood floors, complimentary morning coffee and tea in a beautiful kitchen, 1.5 baths, and weather permitting, you can relax on our front porch or in our lovely little backyard garden.
Free WIFI is accessible in the entire house, porch and backyard. For those staying less than five days, kitchen use is limited to morning coffee and tea service. Laundry facilities are available for long term guests.
Interaction with Guests
We believe that check in should be as easy, simple, and stress free as possible and strive to make it so. We live here so depending on scheduling you may see us or another guest come and go. Otherwise this should be considered a private space and the level of interaction is up to you. We are always happy to answer any questions that guests may have about the house, area, getting around, tours, etc. Just ask!
Our house is in the heart of downtown Ithaca, we've lived here for 14 years and love it. Guests coming from cities tend to find the area quiet and charming, while those those coming from the suburbs tend to find it edgy and alive. We of course think it's is the best location in town.
The neighborhood is somewhat urban, sometimes lively, and always safe, friendly and culturally diverse. Working class families rub elbows with Cornell professors and massage therapists, and your favorite baristas share the sidewalks with loitering kids and community center volunteers.
We are walking distance to the commons, shopping, great grocery stores, playgrounds, trails, and awesome coffee shops. The area is loaded with excellent restaurants and convenient to all area attractions. Parking near the house is amply available, safe and free.
Ithaca - Catch a bus two blocks away or on a beautiful day walk to the farmer's market or visit Cornell campus for a tour. Public transport is very convenient from our home, as is anything you may like to see, do, eat or drink in downtown Ithaca. Walking distance to everything. On bus route. Area taxis available. Cornell University 1 mile uphill. Ithaca College 1 mile uphill. Airport 6 miles.
The Finger Lakes Region - Our place is a great home base for guests exploring other Finger Lakes areas and attractions. We are convenient by car or tour to Corning, Watkins Glen, Hector, Skaneateles, Trumansburg, Geneva, Seneca Falls, Cayuga and Seneca Lake Wineries, The Fingerlakes National Forest, Filmore Glen State Park, the list goes on...
Other Things to Note
We want to be sure that our guests are happy with their accommodations. Our home is a good fit for people that like staying with others and appreciate what a city location have to offer. While there is a good amount of privacy here it is good to keep in mind that you are staying in a bedroom in our home that we also live in with other guests. Our goal is to offer a clean, safe, friendly and affordable place for visitors. It is much different (and we think more interesting, charming and fun) than staying in a hotel, traditional bed and breakfast or a private apartment. If this sounds like something that is a good fit for you, our family would be so happy to host you and yours.

The best words to describe my experience at staying with Alexis and Mark are ‘it felt like coming home’. They are really nice, helpful and relaxed hosts; Alexis never hesitated to go the extra mile for me (e.g. printing my CV on really nice paper) and I felt more than welcome.
Thank you for everything, you are doing a perfect job!
Alexis & Mark are great hosts and very considerable. Their House is very clean, sweet and exactly the same as described. Before I arrived at Ithaca, Alexis sent several emails to me to make sure I know things in advance. You can almost find everything needed in the House, e.g. hair dryer, slippers, bath towel, umbrella, and even cakes, fruits and kinds of coffee and teas in the kitchen. The location of the House is also great. There are a lot of restaurants around the place, the Greyhound/Coach USA bus station is within 9 minutes walking distance, and it is also easy to get to the Cornell campus either by bus (taking the No. 10 bus at the Starbucks location every ten minutes) or by cab (five minutes). And most importantly, even with great amenities and convenience, it is rather affordable. I actually have strongly recommended this cozy room to my friends. You should choose to stay here if you are to visit Ithaca someday.
My son and I visited Ithaca for a quick college visit. The room was cozy (just as promised), clean and warm on an unusually cool April night. Alexis provided clear arrival instructions a few days beforehand and had plenty of helpful information available about Ithaca. We appreciated her restaurant recommendations as well as pointing us toward other notable locations. Eclectic array of art and artful objects in the house ... you're bound to linger over a few.
Well done and thanks, Alexis and Mark.
Oh my goodness!! What a wonderful place to stay while visiting in Ithaca!! I immediately felt welcomed and at home the minute I walked through the door! Alexis greeted me and warmly welcomed me to their home! The bedroom was wonderful and the bathroom was amazing! I'm still wishing I could have taken that tub home with me! It was the perfect place to stay while visiting my daughter at Cornell! I will always look to stay with Alexis and Mark!! I was able to interact with one of the other houseguests and had a wonderful time! My daughter and I even came back to the house two nights in a row to watch movies and just have a wonderful place to visit with each other! They immediately made her feel welcome as well! I will miss the turtles, Gunny and that charming house! The room was comfortable and had plenty of room for everything! The water, chocolate and warm robe were wonderful homey touches! I had a wonderful time! If you are lucky enough to get to stay at this home, you are lucky indeed! Thanks Alexis & Mark!
It was a great experience. The room was comfortable. Alexis & Mark were extremely kind. They explained everything in detail to make you feel at home. I decided to stay one more night as soon as I entered the room. Although the room was booked for their friend at first, they reopened the room for me and made another arrangement for their friends. I would definitely recommend their house to my friends if they wanted to stay Ithaca.
Comfortable room, quite place and good location. I will definitely recommend this room for those who want a nice experience in Ithaca.
Alexis and Mark were impeccable hosts to our daughter Zoe and friend Jonathan. It's always a wonderful time at their place. Also, it's just so much fun to be near downtown Ithaca. Thank you!
