Meticulously restored farmhouse on 13 acres next to the Stowe Mtn Resort ski area. Perfectly located for beauty and privacy, but within walking distance to dining, a small store, the recreation path, and 1,000's of acres of State forest.Private room
Meticulously restored 200 year old farmhouse with the look and feel of a true old New England home. You will arrive on a winding private drive through the woods and come upon lush gardens, fields and lawns surrounding this hidden estate. The guest bedroom is upstairs with its own staircase. The bedroom has its own small 1/2 bath (toilet and sink), desk, and even a refrigerator. The shower and bathtub are downstairs. Guests tell us that the double bed with a 3" memory foam mattress is deliciously comfortable ( but it is only a double). If you are over 6ft tall you will find the ceiling in the bedroom low and the bed is only a double - it is an historic house and an antique bed. (We do have an additional room with a single bed available upon request for $45/night if prospective guests need 2 rooms - just ask about it, we don't list it on a regular basis.)
High speed wireless internet throughout the house as well as very good cell service. The walk in shower with hand made tiles and separate claw foot tub are in the downstairs bathroom and available for your use as needed.
The house is situated on 13 acres next to the Stowe Mtn. Resort ski area - we actually are adjoining landowners and our property also borders on 1,000's of acres of state land with waterfalls, mountain bike, hking and XC skiing trails out the back door. Our driveway is long and steep in the beginning. We keep it sanded during the winter, but it can be challenging. Let us know ahead of time when you are arriving and if you are worried about driving in snow, we can assist you.
We have a simple lifestyle with friendly cats(inside/outside), chickens, and extensive gardens - both vegetable and flower - your hostess is a master gardener with the state of Vermont. Our home is right next to all the amenities a resort town can offer, but is completely hidden from the road. Within walking distance is a great wood fired pizza/ sushi bar and grill (The Matterhorn), a small store, and the bike path starts 1/2 mile down the road. We even have bikes for our guests to use in the summer. In the winter the shuttle to the mountain will stop for you at the bottom of our driveway. Our guests sometimes arrive without a car during the ski season and find the shuttle service works well .
It is an old fashioned house filled with country antiques, steep staircases, and creaky floors. We provide breakfast-homemade granola or more- if you wish. If you get lucky you may hit us when we are having waffles with our own fresh picked raspberries or blueberries! We are both skiers and your host runs the XC center at the mountain in the winter. You can ski home to our house from the mountain if you enjoy back country skiing. The paneled living room , (with a wood stove in the winter), is available for your use. In the summer we have picnic tables and a place to barbeque outside in the gardens. Our house was recently featured in magazine!!
Guests have access to the living room. They can use the kitchen upon request with some training in how to use the AGA cook stove, for reheating and light cooking. We hope you will enjoy the gardens with an assortment of outdoor furniture in the summer. We do have a barbecue grill available for guests along with picnic supplies. Your bedroom is in a private area of the house accessed by your own set of stairs which open onto the back garden in the summer.
Interaction with Guests
We are around to answer questions and provide breakfast. We work from home in our home office and do a lot of gardening and woodworking so we are often around - but not in your way.
We live next to 1,000's of acres of state forest and preserved land. We are across the street from a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. We have gardens, walking paths and wilderness right in our backyard! Our property is adjacent to the ski area and it is possible to ski home. There is a free shuttle in the winter that stops at the bottom of our driveway that can take you to the ski area if you don't want to drive.
In the winter there is a shuttle that goes all day and into the evening from town to the ski area. Plenty of parking and we do have bikes available - bring your own helmets.
Other Things to Note
We have a small general store across the street and a restaurant and bar next door that serves food and drinks and is quite popular.
In the winter the beginning of our driveway can be challenging if you don't have snow tires or 4 wheel drive. If you are unsure about your car or driving in snow, please let us know ahead of time so we can assist you. Make sure you start up from the highway with enough speed. do not creep up!
If you like your holiday to be in a predictable ‘chain’ hotel or bed and breakfast, where the furniture if from IKEA and designed by committee, this isn’t for you. The whole house, in every detail, is interesting and unusual in some way. It is a unique destination in its own right, an eclectic mix of items from a bygone age – if you want to experience something difference, special and rustic, this is the house for you to stay in, we loved it. It is a great antidote to a busy and hectic lifestyle. Scott and Lyndall are, of course, wonderful hosts in every way. A picture on a wall, given to them from a previous delighted guest says “enter as a stranger, leave as a friend”…….. absolutely true! How many other places you’ve stayed in, can you really stay that?....... exactly. We have now sadly come to the end of our stay and go back home with many fond memories and anecdotes….. we just have to work out when we can find the time to (website hidden) Don’t forget to ask Scott to show you his array of card tricks.
PPS By the way, the skiing was amazing as well.
Lyndall and Scott are great hosts! We had a fabulous time in their unique home and learning about the history of their home. We had s blast trying out xc skiing with Scott and checking out the trails around Stowe. Ligety the cat was a great tour guide and greeter! We recommend this home 110% and best part, it is 5 minutes from the mountain and a 2 min walk to the Matterhorn! We will definitely be coming back! Thank you Lyndall and Scott!
Lyndall and Scott were gracious hosts. They have a truly terrific location right between by Stowe mountain. Lyndall welcomed us to use her kitchen, and even touched up our ski boots that were warming by her oven. I'd certainly stay here again.
Simply gorgeous home and surrounding area. Very calming ambiance. Would have liked to stay longer, not least because of the exquisitely furnished room and living room. The hosts were extremely kind and even helped to jump start my car when the battery died overnight!
Lyndall and Scott were genuine warm and welcoming. The description of their beautiful farmhouse and pictures of the space and property are perfectly accurate. You can't ask for a more cozy and quaint home to stay in during your time in Stowe. We were fascinated by the restoration they have done to their little Vermont house and the pride they take in each detail of it. We are dying to see it in other seasons because our winter stay was heavenly and the location by the resort can't be beat. with these resourceful locals as your hosts, you can't help but have a great experience!
The location is lovely. However, the room is located through the kitchen and up a flight of stairs in an attic that has storage on the other side of the room. There are active cats.
We always go the extra mile for our guests in our New England farmhouse. We've had 129 positive reviews, and yours is the first one that is remotely negative. Everything you complained about is clearly mentioned in our description, sorry you missed it. Hope you enjoyed the complete use of our kitchen, everything I stocked in your fridge, and the maps we provided. If you didn't like cats, or were allergic to them, you should not have booked with us.
Lyndall and Scott were amazing hosts, we had a great time in Stowe and thanks to them learned a whole bunch about Stowe and the neighbourhood. They really have a beautiful and charming house in which they made us feel at home. The room is super cosy and confortable. We really enjoyed our stay!

We live and ski in Stowe VT and raised our 2 children here. My husband runs the cross country ski center in the winter and does carpentry in the summer. I have a gardening business and love to garden. We have many beautiful flower and vegetable gardens around the house.. We live in a 200 year old house we moved and put together ourselves. It isn't finished yet - we are still working on it! . I grew up in a small Inn on the property next door. We have two kids one working in San Francisco and one still in college in Cambridge.
We both used to work in and run a small hotel so are very familiar with taking care of visitors. We love having guests visit our house. We have recently painted many of our rooms using historic paints including the guest bedroom and living room!
