About this listing

Meticulously restored farmhouse located next to Stowe Mountain Resort. Perfectly situated for beauty and privacy, but within walking distance to dining, a convenience store, rec. path, and 1,000's of acres of State forest.Private 2nd floor room with 1/2bath ( shared shower downstairs), wonderfully soft double bed . House is quaint with antiques, steep stairs and old fashioned touches. 2 very friendly cats.

The space

Meticulously restored 200 year old farmhouse with the look and feel of a true old New England home. You will arrive on a winding private drive through the woods and come upon lush gardens, fields and lawns surrounding this hidden estate. The guest bedroom is upstairs with its own staircase. The bedroom has its own small 1/2 bath (toilet and sink), desk, and even a refrigerator. The shower and bathtub are downstairs. Guests tell us that the double bed with a 3" memory foam mattress is deliciously comfortable ( but it is only a double). Sometimes you will even find our cat sleeping there. If you are over 6ft tall you will find the ceiling in the bedroom low - it is an historic house and an antique bed. (We do have an additional room with a single bed available upon request for $45/night if prospective guests need 2 rooms - just ask about it, we don't list it on a regular basis.)
High speed wireless internet throughout the house as well as very good cell service. The walk in shower with hand made tiles and separate claw foot tub are in the downstairs bathroom and available for your use as needed.
The house is situated on 13 acres next to the Stowe Mtn. Resort ski area - we actually are adjoining landowners and our property also borders on 1,000's of acres of state land with waterfalls, mountain bike, hiking and XC skiing trails out the back door.
We have a simple lifestyle with 2 friendly cats(inside/outside), chickens, and extensive gardens - both vegetable and flower - your hostess is a master gardener with the state of Vermont. Our home is right next to all the amenities a resort town can offer, but is completely hidden from the road. Within walking distance is a great wood fired pizza/ sushi bar and grill (The Matterhorn), a small store, and the bike path starts 1/2 mile down the road. We even have bikes for our guests to use in the summer.
It is an old fashioned house filled with country antiques, steep staircases, and creaky floors. We provide breakfast-homemade granola or more- if you wish. If you get lucky you may hit us when we are having waffles with our own fresh picked raspberries or blueberries! We are both skiers and your host runs the XC center at the mountain in the winter. You can ski home to our house from the mountain if you enjoy back country skiing. The paneled living room , (with a wood stove in the winter), is available for your use. In the summer we have picnic tables and a place to barbecue outside in the gardens. Our house was recently featured in magazine!! Here is the link:

Guest access

Guests have access to our wood paneled living room. Very limited use of the kitchen and only with prior arrangement. We hope you will enjoy the gardens with an assortment of outdoor furniture in the summer. We do have a barbecue grill available for guests along with picnic supplies. Your bedroom is in a private area of the house accessed by your own set of stairs- which opens onto the back garden in the summer. In the winter, due to snow, the access is through the kitchen.

Interaction with guests

We are around to answer questions and provide breakfast. We work from home in our home office and do a lot of gardening and woodworking so we are often around - but not in your way.

Other things to note

We have a small general store across the street and a restaurant and bar next door that serves food and drinks and is quite popular.

Our driveway is long and steep in the beginning. We keep it sanded during the winter, but it can be challenging if you don’t have AllWD or snow tires, or if you arrive during a snowstorm. It you are unsure about your car or driving in snow, please let us know ahead of time so we can assist you. Make sure you start up from the highway with enough speed, do not creep up or you won’t make it.

Scott and Lyndall provided good advice for local attractions. We thouroughly enjoyed talking to them and staying in their restored home. They are wonderful hosts!

Wow, Lyndall and Scott's home and property was the perfect introduction to Vermont for my wife and myself. We couldn't have asked for a better host and hostess. A great place to recharge the old batteries, we could actually feel the stress of modern day life melt away during our stay. I especially enjoyed walking the property early in the morning with the sound of a babbling brook nearby, a little slice of Heaven. Kell Johnson

Lyndall and Scott were great hosts, and the location was perfect. It is quiet but at a walking distance to trails and restaurants. Very close to Smuggler's notch and recreation path. I definitely will be back in the future.

It's like staying with family, but better! Lyndall and Scott have such a charming home. Scott has put so much time and effort into their home, and it shows. We were amazed to hear the stories about how the house came together. Our room was a perfect place to rest our head after a long day or biking or hiking (maybe next time we'll be able to conquer Mt. Mansfield). We had forgotten to pack our own bikes but Scott came to the rescue and let us borrow theirs! Scott and Lyndall were so helpful with any questions that we had about the area or about where the best place to eat was. Added bonus, the bed is ridiculously comfortable. Wish we had more time to spend with Lyndall and Scott. They truly are the best.

This is a wonderful home for history. The host and hostess treated us like family. I was served a delicious cup of coffee with cream from the neighbors cow. Lyndall also made us scrambled eggs, fresh from the chickens with leeks from her garden. I was so impressed with how thoughtfully everything was prepared and served. Our waffles were made with fresh ground wheat and syrup from Vermont maple trees. We were able to borrow bikes and rode them all the way to the main part of Stowe, I believe about 10 miles. A wonderful, authentic experience with gracious hosts. Highly recommended.

Lyndall User ProfileLyndall is a superhost.

We live and ski in Stowe VT and raised our 2 children here. My husband runs the cross country ski center in the winter and does carpentry in the summer. I have a gardening business and love to garden. We have many beautiful flower and vegetable gardens around the house.. We live in a 200 year old house we moved and put together ourselves. It isn't finished yet - we are still working on it! . I grew up in a small Inn on the property next door. We have two kids one working in San Francisco and one still in college in Cambridge.
We both used to work in and run a small hotel so are very familiar with taking care of visitors. We love having guests visit our house. We have recently painted many of our rooms using historic paints including the guest bedroom and living room!
