The Space

Meticulously restored 200 year old farmhouse with the look and feel of a true old New England home. You will arrive on a winding private drive through the woods and come upon lush gardens, fields and lawns surrounding this hidden estate. The guest bedroom is upstairs with your own entrance and staircase. The bedroom has its own 1/2 bath (toilet and sink), desk, and even a refrigerator. Guests tell us that the double bed with a 3" memory foam mattress is deliciously comfortable. If you are over 6ft tall you will find the ceiling in the bedroom low - it is an historic house. (We do have an additional single room available upon request for $45/night if prospective guests need 2 rooms - just ask about it, we don't list it on a regular basis.)
High speed wireless internet throughout the house as well as very good cell service. The walk in shower and separate claw foot tub are in the downstairs bathroom.
The house is situated on 13 acres next to the Stowe Mtn. Resort ski area - we actually are adjoining landowners and our property also borders on 1,000's of acres of state land with waterfalls, mountain bike, hking and XC skiing trails out the back door.
We have a simple lifestyle with cats(inside/outside), chickens, and extensive gardens - both vegetable and flower - your hostess is a master gardener with the state of Vermont. Our home is right next to all the amenities a resort town can offer, but is completely hidden from the road. Within walking distance is a great wood fired pizza/ sushi bar and grill (The Matterhorn), a small store, and the bike path starts 1/2 mile down the road. We even have bikes for our guests to use. In the winter the shuttle to the mountain will stop for you at the bottom of our driveway. Our guests sometimes arrive without a car during the ski season and find the shuttle service works well .
It is an old fashioned house filled with country antiques, steep staircases, and creaky floors. We provide breakfast-homemade granola or more- if you wish. If you get lucky you may hit us when we are having waffles with our own fresh picked raspberries or blueberries! We are both skiers and your host runs the XC center at the mountain in the winter. You can ski home to our house from the mountain if you enjoy back country skiing. The paneled living room , (with a wood stove in the winter), is available for your use. In the summer we have picnic tables and a place to barbeque outside in the gardens. Our house was recently featured in magazine!!

Guest Access

Guests will get to use the living room at any time. They can use the kitchen upon request with some training in how to use the AGA cook stove, for reheating and light cooking. We hope you will enjoy the gardens with an assortment of outdoor furniture in the summer. We do have a barbecue grill available for guests along with picnic supplies. Your bedroom is in a private area of the house accessed by your own set of stairs which open onto the back garden.

Interaction with Guests

We are around to answer questions and provide breakfast. We work from home in our home office and do a lot of gardening and woodworking so we are often around - but not in your way.

The Neighborhood

We live next to 1,000's of acres of state forest and preserved land. We are across the street from a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. We have gardens, walking paths and wilderness right in our backyard!

Getting around

In the winter there is a shuttle that goes all day and into the evening from town to the ski area. Plenty of parking and we do have bikes available - bring your own helmets.

Other Things to Note

We have a small general store across the street and a restaurant and bar next door that serves food and drinks and is quite popular.

Check In
  • Having fallen in love with the area in March 2014, I was determined to experience it again without snow at some point. A work-break turned out to be the perfect chance, and after much hunting on airbnb, I chose here, primarily because it is in my desired area and polar opposite to where we live.. Why go away to stay 'at home'? In short the experience met my hopes; that rarely happens. Scott welcomed us into their home and we easily felt it comfortably ours. On our lazy morning, Lyndall and Scott treated us to freshly dug potatoes, eggs (from their chickens) & bacon, beautifully served in a delightful part of their gardens.. in true homestead style with great love of their land and true Vermont hospitality.

From a guest perspective, they offer as much or little interaction, their home and well versed knowledge of the area as each guest requires. For us it was a beautiful, peaceful home-from-home ambiance, for which we eagerly, gratefully and happily enjoyed.

The many positive comments in the available guest book made it difficult to be original!

So glad you were able to host us; thank you for making your home ours too.

  • I've stayed with around two dozen AirBnB hosts and this place is as good as it gets. Beyond the unbelievable setting and hospitality that Lyndall & Scott provide, you're likely to experience that rare tinge of sadness that comes when saying goodbye to a great new friend. If not for all my other commitments (and the fact that they book well in advance, understandably), I would've happily spent my whole (email hidden) Mansfield Homestead.

I hope to return soon, but in the meantime … take a dip in the river for me!

  • We had a great weekend in Stowe and loved staying at Lyndall and her husband's wonderful homestead. The house has a ton character, the garden is beautiful and the place was just as described in the listing. Our hosts were very knowledgable and helpful with pointing out some local favorites and provided some maps of the area. A bike path is only a short distance from their place and they have couple of bikes that they will provide. If you are going to Stowe, I highly recommend that you stay here.

  • The listing was accurate and as described. Lyndall was an excellent host and very welcoming. We left an article of clothing and she happily shipped it out to us after our stay. Great experience overall!

  • Lyndall and Scott were fantastic. This was mine and my friend's first Air B'n'B experience, and it surpassed expectation. We arrived late at night but they still accommodated our arrival time and provided us with excellent directions to their home. We could not see anything on the drive to Vermont due to the dark, so waking up to the view from Lyndall's guest room was wonderful. Scott gave us detailed, hand-drawn maps for our hikes, with lots of local knowledge about where we were going. Lyndall recommended places to eat and she provided us with delicious homemade granola in the morning. They were both great, really easy and interesting to chat to, and we'd love to come back and stay with them again one day.

  • We had a great time staying at Lyndall and Scott's home! We decided to spend a few days in Stowe for some spring snowboarding and really enjoyed having Lyndall and Scott as our wonderful hosts. They were very warm and friendly and made us feel at home.

The house itself is simply amazing. It's actually 2 historic houses that have been beautifully restored and joined together to form one dwelling, and the guest bedroom was comfortable and cozy. Unfortunately, we missed the breakfasts Lyndall made but we really enjoyed her tasty poppy seed cake and homemade jam! Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, rustic and unique experience in Stowe!

  • Thank you Lyndall and Scott - we had a great time! We appreciate your hospitality, and your generosity in so many ways.
We were able to use the kitchen to make a simple breakfast; we enjoyed our glass of wine by the fire in the living room at night.

  • Lyndall and Scott are the perfect hosts. Their house is absolutely gorgeous and they go the extra mile to make sure you feel welcome - even fresh baked cookies when we arrived! Their cats are super fun and add an extra homey vibe. Just be prepared for some kitty snuggle time - they're not shy about it! Thank you Lyndall and Scott for making our trip extra special!

  • We had an amazing time at Lyndall and Scott's. The place is gorgeous, sitting in the woods, a veritable winter wonderland! Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the house was warm and comfortable.
We were able to ski back to the house. There are lots of lovely paths accessible from the house. The slopes are a short drive or a short bus ride from the house.
Lyndall and Scott are wonderful hosts and they know the area extremely well. They have lots of good advice and recommendations to give.
I'd love to see the place in the summer!

U.S. Census Bureau,
We live and ski in Stowe VT and raised our 2 children here. My husband runs the cross country ski center in the winter and does carpentry in the summer. I have a gardening business and love to garden. We have many beautiful flower and vegetable gardens around the house.. We live in a 200 year old house we moved and put together ourselves. It isn't finished yet - we are still working on it! . I grew up in a small Inn on the property next door. We have two kids one working in San Francisco and one still in college in Cambridge. We both used to work in and run a small hotel so are very familiar with taking care of visitors. We love having guests visit our house. We have recently painted many of our rooms using historic paints including the guest bedroom and living room!
