  • We had a great time at Chip's place! The rooms are true to their photographs. Every inch is filled with color, pattern and antique charm. I absolutely loved it. He also has the most adorable little cat and makes one hell of a breakfast. We appreciated him taking the time to chat with us. We had a ton of questions from where to eat in town to where he's from and how long he's been collecting and he gladly answered them all. Truly a gem of a house and outstanding host.

  • The accommodations were amazing, The home and grounds are more beautiful than the pictures can show. Chip's hospitality was really superlative, he made wonderful breakfasts and put out cookies in the evening. At the same time he was very unobtrusive. The only downside was the surrounding neighborhood. It was not one where I would feel comfortable walking. I saw other commenters dismiss this concern as simply a gentrifying neighborhood. That's not how it felt to me (but granted I am getting less adventurous in my fifties :)). In any event, if you are not put off by gritty urban life, or if you plan to use a car on your Providence trip, this is a wonderful, wonderful place to stay (there's ample parking). I hope I can come back!

  • Yes, really, no kidding. These pictures are the real thing. This oasis is in a somewhat downtrodden neighborhood, and as a woman I preferred to drive into the city, even though the walk into downtown is a short one. Chip was a cordial and considerate host who applies his artistic nature to all aspects of innkeeping. I am not a breakfast eater, but appreciated the array he presented, which the other guests seemed to enjoy. For me, just the French press coffee was wonderful. If you appreciate architechture and antique appointments, you can't do better. A labor or love and a true work of art. A+ vibe.

  • What an incredible place to stay and rest your head. My girlfriend and I stayed here on a last-minute jaunt up to Providence, RI. Even though we were last-minute, Chip was responsive and more than gracious to host us. We found our stay to be warm, inviting, and very comfortable. The whole house has a museum-like feel to it, as we were literally surrounded from top to bottom with antiques and knickknacks that had so much history and character to them. We could really tell that the whole house was an ongoing labor of love -- something that we certainly would not have experienced had we stayed in any of the cookie-cutter hotel/motels in the area.

Breakfast the following morning was the best we've had at a bed and breakfast: quiche, sausages, bacon, muffins, juice, and coffee. The whole nine yards. Really, really great stuff. We loved staying here, and are we to find ourselves in the area again, would not hesitate to return.

  • Thank you Chip for sharing your beautiful home with us! A lovely house that could you spend hours and hours looking at and still not take in all its well-designed wonder. Breakfast was delicious (an assortment of quiche, bacon/ham, potatoes, corn bread, etc.) and Chip is a soft-spoke helpful host. We will definitely book again there next time we are in the area! Many thanks!

  • Chip was a good host and we enjoyed our stay at his place. The bus service was very good and frequent into the city and the bus stop was very close by.

Breakfasts were included which was a bonus.

  • We had a nice weekend getaway in Providence at Chip's place. Providence is what it (website hidden) location, it is about a 20 minute walk to either Federal Hill or 30 minute walk to downtown. In the middle of the day this was a safe / easy walk. There is a bus option too, but we did not look. We did not feel comfortable doing this at night, a lot of drunk people milling around. That said, it is like ~$8 using uber.

The house is very nice. The room appears a little smaller than in the photo but was pleasant enough. There is a well stocked bathroom and even a mini fridge.

Very chill environment, felt comfortable coming / going at will. A lot of nice places to sit around in the house. There were brownies too!

Would probably not stay there again, though mostly due to location. Breakfast was pretty good, nothing to write home about, but for the cost was fine.

    Response from Chip:

Well I usually don't get revues like this and I hope anyone who reads this one will look at my other revues which have pretty good. As soon as this couple walked in the door I knew they were not happy and for the most part n, i.e. the first day they had mellon, mango and stawberries, cereal ,spinach omelette, bacon, sausage fresh juice and fresh baked corn bread. They ate it ALL cleaned the (email hidden)cond day they had a zucchini frittata sausages, bacon curried potatoes and vegetables pastry, fresh fruit and of coarse coffee and tea. They ate it ALL.Then in his private comments he tells me my breakfast was (website hidden) one in the 250 plus guest I have had here has ever told me that. But the point is they ate it ALL.What's that about..I spend about $10.00 per person on (website hidden)'s time and money for me and I know no one else in Providence on airbnb does this. Not at the price I charge.
As for location ,I'm nine blocks from the highway .Once you cross it you are (website hidden)'s less than ten minutes by bus.And yes there is a large homeless shelter there at the corner where you cross the highway and there are people ou during the day. They have to be back in the shelter by 6:00 in the evening so there are not that many people out after that.I'm sorry that Jonathan found that threatening. But once again with over 250 plus guest there has never been a problem and I have had long term guest who have walked this route daily for months going thru downtown to Brown without a problem,
Needless to say this was not a pleasant experience for me and I would say 98% of the guest I have had I've really enjoyed.I'm not sure what the real problem here was but I find most of these comments in this revue and the ones he wrote to me privately were done in pure spite.

  • Chip was a great host. Very friendly and personable with a knack for knowing when to be around and when to be scarce. His breakfasts were outstanding! The house is very interesting. There's plenty of parking which is helpful in Providence and the whole place is (email hidden) in antique museum. The only "note" I'd give prospective renters which I hadn't seen in any of the other reviews is that house is in what appears to be a turning over neighborhood. Lots of street people activity on the main drag a block from the house during the day. However to be sure the area was very quiet and seemed perfectly safe at night.

  • It is really difficult to praise Chip highly enough. The breakfasts were a thing of beauty, and I'm not normally a breakfast eater. I felt welcome, and my only regret was how little time I had to enjoy this jewel of a house. It is only a few blocks from downtown Providence and had it not been quite as cold as it was, I would happily have walked. Had a great recommendation for dinner and best of all Chip even searched out some music for me to play on the lovely piano on Sunday morning. This was so much better than travelling anonymously and staying in a place without character. This was a gem. Shouldn't be a stop-over but a destination!
