Gorgeous view of the Bosphorus, stroll along the water side. Enjoy the sounds of the city at a near by cafe in Arnavutkoy or Ortakoy...
There is a public bus stop 100 m. from the property which takes you the old city or wave a cab from anywhere on the street you wish. From the Ataturk or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, easy to take the airport shuttle to Taksim and from there a short cab ride (15 min.) to the property.
Room on a Hill is not a hotel. We open our home to you as our most respected and valuable guest. Just treat it the way you would treat your own home.
We were made thoroughly welcome from the start and for the rest of the six days we stayed. Even the cat was friendly! The location was as described, elevated, the views across the Bosphorus splendid. The studio apartment (the accommodation) is very comfortable, private and well-appointed. A great place to return after a busy day in hectic Istanbul with all its wonders and sorrows.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Room on a Hill. The place is clean, quiet and very cozy. The wifi is excellent as well. The view from the terrace is absolutely gorgeous. I want to go back just to spend more time on the terrace. The studio is close to Ortakoy and Bebek which we very much enjoyed visiting. Thank you for letting us stay at your house and being such a wonderful host. Ms. Kolman's mom is absolutely lovely and welcoming. This was our first time using Airbnb and we had a very positive experience. Thank you.
Esperienza magnifica, la casetta di Mina è piccola ma molto pratica e la vista, proprio come nella fotografia, è siderale. La mamma di Mina è estremamente accogliente e gentile, decisamente una persona che ci tiene a farti sentire a tuo agio.
We were made to feel very welcome. For us, the location was important. It is situated in a great local away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was like a quiet sanctuary to return to, even though the traffic from the city each day made it slow going. ~ The view and the quiet made it all worth it!
What friendly and caring hospitality!
There's all you need: a comfy, warm bed, bathroom with shower, spacious kitchen facility, even a washing machine.
We absolutely loved our stay at Room on a Hill. The studio is built inside a historical structure and is very comfy and cozy. As all other reviewers have pointed out, the view from the beautiful shared terrace is amazing, and Ms Kolman's mother was wonderful, welcoming and helpful. Walking up the steps to the villa in the evening, we felt very lucky to have found such a peaceful retreat in one of the most bustling cities in the world.
Our first afternoon in Istanbul consisted of a wonderful walk from the Room on a Hill north along the Bosphorus, past the beautiful timber houses and fish restaurants of Arnavutköy and Bebek, to the second Bosphorus bridge - a perfect introduction to this side of the city. A short walk away in the other direction is Ortaköy, with lots of restaurants and cafés and the Ortaköy mosque, dramatically located on the waterfront with the first Bosphorus bridge right behind.
There's a bus stop close to the steps to the villa, with frequent buses to Kabataş (for Dolmabahçe Palace, the tram to Sultanahmet and ferries to the Princes' Island etc.) and Taksim. We never had to wait longer than a couple of minutes for a bus. The road between Kuruçeşme and Kabataş can get very busy during peak hours, though, so in the late afternoon it could be a good idea to take the ferry back from Eminönü instead - it's always a good idea to use the ferries in Istanbul anyway :)
It was a pleasure also to exchange messages with Mina before our arrival, she was very helpful and friendly.
In short, we would recommend the Room on a Hill without any reservations, and we hope to visit again soon!
It's difficult to review this fantastic place and host without repeating what others have already said many times! The room is great, just as in the pictures. The view is even more amazing in reality than in the pictures (and it looks great in the pictures!). The place is as quiet and relaxed but at the same time central as it can get in Istanbul. The terrace and garden are just wonderful. I had to stay at the room for a couple days to work on my computer, but just by looking out of the door from my desk I could see the Bosphorus and huge ships crossing it. It doesn't get any better than that!
Mrs. Kolman is a great host, everything was clean and ready when we arrived, with a large supply of water and delicious home-baked muffins. It was very interesting to learn from her about the changes in the area in the last decades, from an industrial zone to the current houses and villas (those which were not demolished). She made sure we had everything we needed and was always glad to answer our questions. It was very pleasant to talk with her while enjoying the sun on the terrace.
I would definitely like to repeat the experience!
De-light-ed! Miss Kolman was smiling, sweet and welcoming.
The location is in dreamy, quiet, yet near every major attraction the city has to offer.
If you're like me and like a room/home with character, then Mina's "Room on a Hill" is it. The place was extremely clean - in fact all the kitchenette and bathroom appear new.
I have lived in Istanbul for several years, in the same neighborhood for its trees, relative calmness and views.
The "Room on a Hill" may very well have become my home away from home when in Istanbul.
