  • Room on a Hill takes you somewhere completely different. I spent 5 days in Mrs Kolman's magical place. Mrs Kolman was so helpful and welcoming. She baked beautiful muffins for a Warm Welcome. Great location for jogging and sight-seeing. Short taxi ride to mostly everywhere. There is a local grocery shop, super market, coffee shops like Assk. Walking distance to Bebek, Ortakoy. One advice only, not too many luggage. From the road side to the house long way to climb up :) But worth to reach to the terrace. You will love this place. Thank you for sharing your heaven ;)

  • It was an amazing stay, the room is in the wonderful place, very cozy and (website hidden) was one of that rare moments when you get more than you expected. A view and a tiny garden were just beautiful.
And the best was the host - Mrs.Kolman is incredibly hospitable and helpful.
    Thank you!

  • Our days spent here were heavenly - it was such a pleasure to spend time with Mrs. Kolman and to sit on her terrace overlooking the Bosphorus. I couldn't think of a more delightful and relaxing place to stay in Istanbul. After long days of visiting the city it was such a pleasure to come back home in the evenings. And her delicious borek!

  • There is not much to add. The apartment was just perfect and the area around is one of the best in Istanbul :) We will spend out next vacation in Istanbul at Mina's place again! We can highly recommend this apartment!

  • What a fabulous place to stay in Istanbul!

Location is great if you are looking to be away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. But still easy to get transportation to other neighborhoods or walk to ortakoy and arnavutkoy.

The two best things about this place were the gracious host Mrs. Kolman and the beautiful view of the Bosphorus. Mrs. Kolman was very sweet and helpful - offering advice about transportation, giving directions, making us delicious baked treats, and even offering to do a load of laundry for us. And she has an awesome cat.

My friend and I spent many hours on the patio just watching life on the Bosporus. A perfect way to wind down after a fast paced trip.

Highly recommend this booking - you will not be disappointed!

  • Mrs Kolman was a super host and the Room on a Hill airbnb was simply delightful. The location, just up from Kurucesme is peaceful, indeed we enjoyed many a tranquil moment on the terrace garden taking in the spectacular view of the Bosphorous. For 1st time visitors to Istanbul, this location is great - close enough for a bus/tram commute to the central areas but also there are many fantastic water-side restaurants within walking distance.

The room was cool, quiet and private being separate from the main house. All was kept clean and tidy.

We would highly recommend this as an airbnb to others and would love to return one day -if only to spend some more time sipping tea with Mrs Kolman :)

  • The photo on this listing looks like a stock photo, but it is not. It is the view from the terrace! I have been visiting Istanbul several times a year since 1986, but I will never stay anywhere else if I can book here. The accommodation is excellent and Mrs Kolman is a wonderful host.

If you prefer the Bosphorus to Sultan Ahmet or Beyoglu, this location is perfect. There's a bus stop at the bottom of the hill, taxis are plentiful and there is occasional ferry service in Ortakoy, the next village. There are several good restaurants in Arnavutkoy and Kurucesme and a Migros store about 100 meters from the front gate.

Just two caveats - it is a steep climb up the hill to the terrace (and I have a creaky knee), but once you are there it is totally worth it. The gatekeeper will help with bags and letting you in. Second, as mentioned elsewhere, phone reception is weak in the room (thick stone walls) and wifi is non-existent, but both are fine in the garden. The only time this is an issue is when it rains.

Mrs. Kolman speaks English very well, is the most gracious host, and makes great borek! The apartment is fitted out with everything you need and has a great historic feel to it.

thanks mrs. kolman for a wonderful stay, good tips and best börek.

  • We had a great trip to Istanbul and really enjoyed staying at the Room on the Hill. Arriving, we got a taxi from the airport which cost 68 Turkish Lire. The instructions from Mina were perfect and the very friendly security guy greeted us at the gate at the bottom of the steps and helped us with our luggage.
At the end of the holiday we caught the local bus to Taksim Square and then used the airport transfer bus, this was easy and straightforward.
Mrs Kolman was the perfect hostess. When we arrived she carefully explained how things worked in the apartment and over the course of our stay gave us some great travel advice.
The apartment garden has fantastic views. A good supermarket is very close as is the local bus stop. Once we had our Istanbul Card travel around the city on bus, metro and ferry was easy. Catching the commuter ferry to Ortakoy was a good way of avoiding the evening traffic jams. The apartment location encouraged us to explore other areas as well as Sultanahmet - we are so glad we did.

  • Dont confuse it is just a room because of title `room on a hill`. It is private with its own kitchen and bathroom. Like a studio. I guess room is a historical construction with wall thickness up to 150cm :)
So GSM reception was not good. For us it means no radiation stay :)

Location is great for aliens and amazing for locals. For us to meet with Mrs. Mubeccel was a complete privilege. It was like a dream for us which make me smile when remembered.

House is fully equipped with even iron , kitchen , hair dryer etc. Garden is lovely.
Walking up and down stairs is also a historic experience. Very quiet and safe location.

Didn't have chance to meet with Mina but definitely will visit again.

Most probably it was the best accommodation experience for my life.
