About this listing

Staying in Bomarzo is an unforgettable experience in an ancient place and its region, full of history, art, nature, archeology and gastronomy.
You are going to be enchanted by the taste of genuine Italy!

The space

Very beautiful apartment in the historical center (the castle) of Bomarzo, a wonderful perched medieval village of Latium (center of Italy), placed at 80 km from Rome and also easily reachable from Rome and Florence airports by the A1 motorway and by train.
Bomarzo is worldly known for its Park of the Monsters (a large Renaissance garden full of mythological huge sculptures, reachable by 10 min. walk from the apartment ), but also for its closeness with etruscan and roman important remains, thermal baths, the Bolsena Lake and many Renaissance monuments like Villa Farnese in Caprarola, Villa Lante della Rovere in Bagnaia, the perched village of Civita di Bagnoregio (named "the dying city"), and many other gorgeuos historical towns like Viterbo, Tuscania, Orvieto, and many others.
The geographical position of Bomarzo at the crossing of Latium, Tuscany and Umbria, makes it an ideal starting point for an endless number of historical, archeological and naturalistic trips.
The flat is fresh and comfortable and just renovated in the typical local style (vulcanic stone). You find the main bedroom for 2 persons, a nice mezzanine in the living room for other 2 persons and one more detached double room with private bathroom just a few steps below. Internet and wi-fi is included. Free parking is possible just outside of the village center (300 m from the house).
Outside of the village center, at 10 min. walking from the house, you may find any kind of shops and market, as well as typical restaurants, a swimming-pool with astonishing view and many other things to do and see.
Since 2013, it's also available a private garden with breathless view on the village of Bomarzo. The garden is equipped with deck-chairs, hammock and barbecue, and it's only 15 minutes walking (or 5 driving) from the apartment.

Guest access

Guests will have acces to a warm living-room with american kitchen and chimney, a double bed room, a mezzanine above the kitchen and a comfortable bathroom with shower. Out of the main apartment there's the second double bedroom with private bathroom and independent acces.

Interaction with guests

Guests will be welcome by a very gentle neighbour who will hand them keys and give them any required informatioins about the apartment and touristic attractions of the area.

Andrea was very helpful host even he was not in the country, we had little confusion but solved by his friends straight away. As a mountainous village, we walked up and down between rooms, just like what he told me"it keeps us healthy", I love this simple , quiet place! By the way, Monster Park was fascinating!!!

Excellent communication!! Host is a very lovely individual and we enjoyed meeting him and spending time in the sweet, quiet village of Bomarzo! The lower bedroom wasn't ideal because of the dampness and bugs (it does add to the overall authentic character of the place, though! Remember you're staying in an ancient place!). The upper apartment was lovely (dry and free of bugs) and we enjoyed spending time there. It's a great place to live like a local. If you want a 100% quiet place, however, this might not work since the downstairs neighbor returns after work each day and plays music very loud until going to bed (we didn't mind, however, and my daughter enjoyed the musical selection and daily wafting scent of smoked "herb" from the neighbor). ;-) This is a charming apartment in a sleepy village. It's definitely worth a visit and the host is fantastic. You'll enjoy his garden that's a distance from the apartment, the Monster Park, the many cats who own the village, and so much more! We found our overall stay to be quite magical, actually. We're sure you'll enjoy your stay here, as well!

An absolutely gorgeous small village in the hills of Umbria--just 1 1/4 hours from Rome and a similar distance or less to other hillside villages. Like stepping back into history, staying in this quiet town is like stepping back in history. The house comfortable with volet shades and brick floors and walls. Not a sterile hotel room by any means but perfectly suitable for our family of five. But what truly made the stay so magnificent was meeting Andrea who showed us around, took us on a hike to a hidden pyramid, joined us for coffee and lunch and introduced us to a fun couple from Texas. His warmth and hospitality and willingness to assist and talk with us made this truly a fully enjoyable experience of Bomarzo, Umbria Italian style listening to the older women and men talking long into the night and watching our children ride their suitcases down the streets after feeding and naming a neighborhood cat "Queso" was purely delightful. Thank you Andrea for sharing your lovely home and hospitality!

Now that we've experienced Bomarzo and Andrea's amazing location, it will be truly impossible to find another airbnb of this magnitude, quality and beauty. We were charmed by the Orsini Palace and by the homey nature of the flat. Everything we needed to cook and be comfortable was included. Andrea arranged pick up from the train station and introduced us to more locals who became friends. He put a great amount of thought and detail into our stay- to assure that we enjoyed the area as much as he does. And so we did. In the month that we stayed, our 4 year old daughter got accustomed to being greeted by all our friendly neighbors, the palace cats, and the morning and evening ringing of the clock tower bells. We were fortunate enough to spend a weekend with Andrea and his lovely extended family. We toured so many incredible locations off the beaten path and enjoyed several meals together. How amazing to find friendship along the airbnb trail and like minded people with open hearts. We would recommend Andrea's home to anyone looking for an authentic Lazio experience. We didn't have a car, which we highly recommend, but we were able to travel to nearby attractions with friends we met in Bomarzo. The Monster Park does not disappoint and the treks to local ruins were such a surprising treasure. We walked everywhere, were invited to cantina parties and generally felt supported and welcomed everywhere we went. We will always hold our memories of Casa del Duca close to our hearts. And we are so grateful to have met and to know Andrea Maver!!

Arriving in Bomarzo as the sun set was like stepping into a fairytale. The site is marvellous, as the city is located high on a rock overlooking the Tiber valley. Virtually off the tourist trails, we were welcomed by curious and very friendly neighbours who were keen to show us the best of their city, which I suppose is a unique experience in Italy. Bomarzo is really an overlooked jewel. Andrea is an excellent host, and getting the keys through the housekeeper Alessia was very easy. If you're planning to visit Bomarzo, don't miss the stoneage 'pyramid' and the waterfalls in the valley below. The pyramid is hard to find on your own, so we would recommend hiring a guide, if you're not as lucky as us to have Andrea with you. Andrea has written a fine introduction to the area, where you can find details and suggestions for trips. We also enjoyed visiting Civitá di Bagnoregio a lot. Our stay in Casa del duca was just great!

Wonderful house, wonderful town! Parco dei Mostri is a 15min walk from the house, as is coffee and brioche/gelato. Many delicious restaurants just a little farther walk. Beautiful views everywhere in the city and all kinds of hikes and other great towns nearby if you come with a car (Andrea supplies an excellent list!). The house is right in the medieval center and beautifully restored -- feels like another century entirely! The atmosphere itself is lovely and cozy and having the washing machine was very convenient. Andrea wasn't in town, but made accommodations to get the key from someone else -- he was attentive to details and it was all very smooth. It's truly amazing that a place/town like this exists just an hour north of Rome.. you feel like you're a million miles/years from everything. Can't wait to return!!

Casa Del Duc is a lovely rustic apartment with ancient stone walls but all modern conveniences and we enjoyed our stay there the second time even more than we did the first. Skies were sunny and temperatures were moderate for February and the warmth and glow from the pellet stove kept us comfortable in the evenings as we enjoyed local wines, sausages, cheese, bread and olive oil. I would extend this apartment my highest recommendation! Exceptional ambiance. Convenient to so many wonderful things to see...lakes, historical sites, gardens, etc. I simply cannot image a more wonderful experience anywhere in the world.
