About This Listing
Our home is an over 200 year old historic farm house in the heart of the small picture book village of Old Chatham.
NOTE: This is not a typical rental. It is the home we live in, but we do rent it out at times when we are away traveling. We are also in the process of selling our home, and are anticipating an early summer closing. Since we will be traveling over April, we are offering our home for an easy rental during that time.
Our home was tastefully renovated about 15 years ago, it is both charming and spacious. On the first floor you have a large beautiful living room with windows to three sides and a large working fireplace. The office/tv room across the entrance hall also has a working fireplace. There is a coat room and the downstairs toilet. In the back wing you'll find the dining room with a very large old fireplace that we have upgraded with a wood stove insert that heats the entire back of the house. Adjacent is the kitchen, well equipped with a large center island for a spacious cooking experience, and the back entrance leads to the graveled terrace for lovely outdoor warm weather dining.
There are three bedrooms upstairs and a den with a daybed. The master bedroom has a king size tempurpedic mattress, the master bathroom both a spacious shower and a large soaking tub. The regular size bathtub in the second bathroom has Jacuzzi jets. The guest bathroom has a tub and shower.
The wing that was added to the side in the early 1800s has been separated into two apartments, so you have neighbors next door. The big colonial house lends itself beautifully to be shared in this way, you hardly notice (these brick walls are thick!) that there are more people living in the same building.
We have high speed internet and wireless service in every room except the kitchen, and the office/tv room has a 50 inch plasma tv with satellite Dish-network service with scores of channels.
The village country store with it's pretty little restaurant is just a few steps down the road, as is the post office and Old Jackson's Restaurant. There is a walking trail starting right in the back of the village that leads along a former railway dam to several beautiful meadows with gorgeous views across the Hudson Valley all the way to the Catskills. Just minutes away is the Old Chatham Sheepherders Farm, which is open to visitors, as is a llama farm that just opened a little gift store. Small country roads invite for great biking, there are nearby swimming holes in the Kinderhook Creek and lovely Queechy lake - great places to cool off in the summer. You can even go berry picking at the Berry Farm.
The village of Chatham is only 10 minutes away, with it's shops restaurants and old style movie theater. Albany, Hudson, Tanglewood, and Great Barrington are all in reach, with an approx. 30 min. drive to each.
The entire house.
As much as we need to clarify everything and explain the house and the surroundings.
Our small village is surrounded by beautiful landscape with rolling hills and nature trails. We also have access to many cultural events, good restaurants and charming New England towns.
During the winter season you are about 40 min from our favorite slopes at Jiminy Peak, 30 min from the Catamount and 45 min from Butternut ski areas. We also provide three sets of cross country skis!
No public transportation.
The entire house, and the garden.

Tomma is a wonderful host. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. She called our first evening to make sure we didn't need anything.
The house itself was great. We were three couples and a toddler so the four bedrooms and three and half baths made our stay very comfortable. We enjoyed cards at their large dining room table and conversation by their living room fireplace. (I must also mention Tomma's sweet, loving cat Molly. A very special feature of the house.)
We enjoyed many restaurants in the area, including the two restaurants across the street from the house. The area is lovely. Beautiful farms and many things to do. We would definitely stay here again.
Want to feel like landed gentry? To be surrounded by art and antiquities? To wake up and ask yourself: am I in Loire valley or in Baden Baden ? To be equidistant from musical tanglewood and antiquing of Hudson? Walk to sheep farm and taste cheeses and yogurts better than French ones? Come to Jim's and Tomma's estate. So much to do you ll need a month, but while you swimming, hiking, shopping and tasting the only regret u will have, that you are not spending enough time in the gorgeous dining room, sitting in drawing room in front of fireplace or in an amazing garden. Hudson valley and Berkshires feel so perfectly comfortable and authentic when you stay at Jim's and Tomma's estate.

About the Host, Tomma
I am born and raised in Hamburg Germany, now live in Old Chatham NY. I started out in life as a visual artist and shifted to healing and transformational work 18 years ago. I most of all love my work, and also love to garden, spend time in nature, read, and have good meals with friends.
