Lamma getaway in HK - green room

Apartment - Private room · Tai Peng Old Village, Lamma Island, Hong Kong

The Space

The Space:

My flat is situated about 10 minutes walk from the pier. This is my holiday home so there are three rooms in total, one room is currently rented to a friend of mine and there are two other rooms are available for Airbnb (so you will be sharing the space with my friend). There is a nice balcony with plenty of sun light for you to relax outdoors. I do hope you come visit me in the future, looking forward to having a drink with you on our chill balcony.

The Neighborhood:

Lamma Island is about a 20 minutes ferry ride away from Central Pier which is the city centre of Hong Kong. This is a nice great get away location to get everything you want for a relaxing vacation away from the busy city life. There are beaches, walking trails, bars, great seafood restaurants and even organic food restaurants available.

From the airport you may take the Airport Express line to Hong Kong station (on Hong Kong Island) where you can walk to the Central Pier and from there it takes a 20 minute ferry ride to get to Lamma Island. It is just as easy to going back into the city as well. On the island as there are no cars, everything can reached by walking!

  • I actually ended up in the pink room but it didn't matter at all. Met some really lovely house mates and am now living nearby!

  • Edwina is a very friendly and efficient host. The flat is peaceful, tidy, and has everything you need. Lamma is a great getaway spot from the big city. I really enjoyed my stay.

  • I stayed in the green room in Edwina's place on Lamma Island, and was very happy with my choice. The place is comfortable and quiet - a great, peaceful base from which to explore the island as well as the rest of Hong Kong. The place was clean and comfy, exactly as advertised. There were no nasty surprises and I felt very much at home. Would definetly stay here again.

  • Stayed here for 4 or 5 weeks in October (2012). Loved it! Friendly folks and a comfortable flat. Liked the area so much I moved into a new place (long-term) a few houses down. See y'all around.

  • I had a very nice stay in July which is a pretty hot and humid month so i took the steep way to the apartment- but you really dont want to do this way more often but one time a day-as my daily workout once you reached the apartment you will find yourself in a very chilled place where you can relax and enjoy your time. The island is feel connected via Ferry to central. Its a real Gem and you will enjoy your stay and even your little hike once a day.

  • Really is as lovely as the picture. That said, ferry ride only 20minutes, but then a 20minute walk up a pretty big hill. Once you get there though is a lovely quiet little village, a really special part of Hong Kong where villagers still grow vegetables, old people sit in the park, peaceful & quiet.
Edwina's instructions are great. On arrival, the lounge is large and spacious almost like a mini yoga studio, the bedroom tidy, and bathroom and kitchen extremely functional.
A lovely break out of the hustle and bustle of HK as long as you don't have too much luggage to carry. A quiet retreat, but still only 30-40minutes to central. Got me appreciating Lamma Island more than ever before.

  • Edwina was a fantastic host! Even at the last minute, she was able to help me book the room. She was lovely and very easy to deal with.
The place is great, there is a steep hill to reach the apartment but great exercise! The apartment is spacious and very clean. A nice walk downhill to the main street where there a some great cafes and bars. The beach about 15-20 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again, 5 stars from me!!

  • I wanted a quick beach getaway while I wrapped up some work, before leaving China all together. You step off the boat on Lamma Island and immediately forget you are only a 25 minute ferry ride away from Hong Kong.

The island has a laid back lifestyle with all the creature comforts.Edwina makes it easy to find her place and it is not difficult to get a local to help you with your bags. A fifteen minute walk brings you to a rainforest canopy that is a terrific place to unwind. Wireless, a kitchen, air conditioning and a comfortable bed all await.

On Lamma you must be prepared to walk, but the views and vistas are worth the effort.

  • Edwina, hands down, is an excellent host. Even though she wasn't at the property when I was there, she made excellent arrangements to make sure that I got there safe and sound. She answered any and all of my questions promptly. Her roommate was also very nice and accommodating.

    Host: 5/5

The room itself is very basic - you get a bed (+ pillow, sheets, blanket), a clothing storage space (the actual word escapes me), a nice rocking chair and, most importantly, air conditioning! However, just note that if creepy crawlies bother you, it might be an issue here. Some do get in (mosquitoes, spiders, etc.), but they aren't that much of a nuisance. Also, this room is right next to the shared bathroom (which is just a typical bathroom).

    Room: 4.5/5

The only downfall of this space would be location. Finding this space the first time by yourself might prove to be a challenge because it is up and behind a narrow alleyway quite a ways away from the pier. Furthermore, there is a steep (and when I say steep, I mean it is pretty steep!) hill that you have to climb uphill. This part is roughly 200 steps. So, from the piers to the room is roughly 20 minutes going to and about 10 minutes coming from. With that being said, the entire island is a maze of walking pathways so if you are on the island, you should be looking to get in a good walk anyways! And the main street is not too far from the piers (maybe 5 minutes) so this location is pretty close to all the shops & eating spots there.

    Location: 3/5

Overall, for a bang for your buck on Lamma Island, this is a pretty great place to stay! I would definitely come back again.
