Great position however it was very very hard to find at first and took ages! I would recommend to get an actual address or talk to Ketut before because there is no villa name/sign. If you are being dropped to the villa i recommend saying it is behind bubu warang - that seemed to help us a bit
In theory Susan's house is great - good position in a village very close to Ubud (walkable) setup and layout was great as well.. but there was no air con (as listed) which lead to windows having to be open and that lead to real bug problem.
The outdoor bathroom was unreal - we loved it! Very cool, water was nice and hot and the pressure was good.
Pool and garden area was well kept and very relaxing, had a real 'ubud atmosphere' that was very peaceful
The wifi was very good!
very nice place in Ubud, very quiet, very clean and Ketut was very helpful ! we had a very nice time !
Susans houses were a delight to stay in, they are better in real life than in the photos. A beautiful elegant and simple style that was a thrill to walk into. We loved the village and walked everywhere, an easy walk into Ubud main town ,but we often didnt leave the local village as great warungs and cafes where right there. I especially like the bathroom in Pondok Maya, and the meditation room was a surprise and a treat. Could even lie out there with the open roof but be undercover from the rain! magic. We had both houses as were a family and this worked well, the older style house is still very pretty and huge spaces in the bedroom and bathrooms. Ketut and the other staff were wonderful, a treat for us to experience. And Ketut went out of his way to take us to some interesting cultural things , as well as a few unexpected airport trips. I would like to come back again as my trip was cut a bit short this time, but would have happily stayed the 10 days ...and more if we could. A wonderful spot to be.
An authentic Balinese experience. Susan's place incorporates well the traditional with the new and sleek Balinese experience in her compound.
I rented both Pandok Maya and Rumah Jambu for my father and my stay, which was ideal. One accommodation is more traditional Balinese, the other more streamlined. Both are very comfortable and spacious. We loved the cool, deep pool in the middle of the day and the open-air bathrooms. The setting is leafy, clean, peaceful and private and I loved the gentle sounds of geckos and birds from my bed and garden.
There are many restaurants within a few minutes walk from the compound and the scenic walk into the centre of Ubud is an easy 15 minutes. Ketut is lovely to deal with and provided us with very punctual transfers to and from the airport.
I look forward to staying again.
We had a lovely stay in this compound. Ketut was very helpful organising transport and dropping us into town whenever we needed him to. At first we paid him for this, but soon realised that there is a service charge of 10% of the cost of your stay that goes to the staff (which is extra to the amount you pay on here), so we paid IDR40,000 ($40 AUD) at the end of our 4 night stay, which was fine, as the service was good. there are bugs there, as there are in Bali. They didn't bother me, but my friend was bothered by the high pitched hum they make at night time. There are some good restaurants within 300m of the compound, with yummy food very cheap.. Only takes 15 minutes to get into Ubud, and lots of lovely things to see nearby. We especially enjoyed the bike tour (all downhill through rice paddies and villages) we did on our final day. The only other thing was that the hot water didn't work in our showers. I wasn't too bothered by this, but my travelling companions were a bit bummed not to have a hot shower at the end of the day. All in all, a great place to relax and enjoy Ubud. Thanks, Susan!
