The Grove Yurt is nestled in a grove of Large and Narrow Leaf Cottonwoods with the North Fork of the Gunnison River situated directly opposite. There is an 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains rising from our valleys substantial organic farmland. Inside the Grove Yurt, you can spin like Julie Andrews on her mountaintop and nothing can impede the panorama framed by 8 - 4 x 4 foot windows, glazed Double French doors and an 8' x 8' screened opening (music not included)..
The space
The Grove Yurt is a primitive living situation by current "Condo-ified" standards of our 21st century housing. It is furnished in the well appointed farm house style of the 1930s in the Midwest. Most of the furnishing are actually from that time and pre-Melamine, holding up just fine. The Yurt is in the round, which is seldom seen in our current construction palette. After a stay in the Grove Yurt, you will become accustomed to its natural flow, in and out. After leaving, and returning to the world of forbidding corners, you will feel Yurt legs, similar to those who have been at sea and return to walk and stagger upon the dry land. The Grove Yurt is nestled in a grove of Large and Narrow Leaf Cottonwoods with the river situated directly opposite. There is an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains rising from our valleys organic farmland.(we have more organic farms Per capita of anywhere in the US). Inside the Grove Yurt, you can spin like Julie Andrews on her mountaintop and nothing can impede the 360-degree panorama framed by 8 - 4 x 4 foot windows, glazed Double French doors and an 8' x 8' screened opening (music not included). The classic NYC BrownStones we see on late night netflix, are generally 20' wide. The Yurt is 30' in diameter. What will you do with your extra 10 feet? When crossing the threshold, the Yurts fourteen-foot ceiling terminated by a four-foot dome does have an impact after passing through the 6"8" french doors from the expanse of the Grove. The evening and morning gentile breezes keep the Yurt cool and fresh, away from the recirculated air of our daily lives. We have a dining table, complete with hanging candelabra leading to certain Gothic overtones(overtones not included). The light, sound and smell waft right through the screened openings, giving the impression of being in the forest, but only one step removed.
The king-size bed is placed next to the 8' screened opening so that a laying guests' attention is often balanced between the visual activities beyond the dome above and the soundtrack of noises from the Grove inches away.(soundtrack included) Heat is maintained through a well-stocked wood-burning stove equipped with all the necessary tools to maintain a roaring fire late into the night. There is a leather rocking chair and couch in which guests very well might fade into silence mid-sentence. Do not be alarmed, it is the Yurt exerting its influence. on a tired traveler. The chandelier of course, reveals the rafters in the everchanging flicker of shadows. When you wake up, the contrasty light is gone and now the light is diffused and gentle, allowing you figure out where on earth you are. When you figure that one out and you roll to your side, the person next to you will be lit as if the light itself was enraptured by their form. If it has whiskers, bad breath, and a tail, kick it out of the bed, dogs are not allowed in the bed no matter how well lit.
Directly outside, near the entrance, is an outdoor kitchen with limited cold water, steel sink with prep area, ice refrigerator and propane gas stove. There is a composting toilet by Everelet in a well-used horse trailer with all the niceties 20 paces from the yurt along a solar-lighted path. This composting toilet is dedicated to the Grove Yurt. There is also a toilet at Riverwalk toilet/shower Building about 300 ft away that is shared by the Tipi, Rv folks, and random campers.
There is a four-person teak table directly on the river for outdoor dining and picnic table directly off the camp kitchen with large firepit (wood provided).
Other things to note
The Grove Yurt is a space devoid of electricity. Guests will be given a chance to step back from the dictates of the modern world's tentacles of comunication. They will be allowed to rekindle themselves and loved ones without the persistant echoes of the internet. There is power at the Shower House a short distance away if needed.
