We had a truly magical and memorable weekend at the Beach House! It was so close to the phenomenal beach, the little market and cafes, a short walk to the Abalone farm and Joel Magen's pottery studio, and just a short drive from Santa Cruz. We had a nice dinner on the front deck and were even treated to an amazing aria by Greta Feeney-Samuels, one of the current tenants, whom we invited to join us for dinner. We really enjoyed the nice kitchen (with the lovely wooden dining room table) and all the beautiful tile in the bathroom. We loved all of the art in the house and had everything we needed for a wonderful weekend. We would definitely like to come back -- thank you so much Michael!
Booking was straightforward - Michael got back to me right away when I called the day of to get access and is very friendly. The place is great - a lot of personality, and a fun location nested among the highway 1 restaurants - we ate at the Whale City Bakery a lot.
Just steps away from a great beach and also the Davenport bluffs where you can roam cypress groves and peak over staggering cliffs.
The place was clean, but to be honest could have been just a tad cleaner - all the fundamentals were good (clean sheets, clean bathroom, kitchen etc) - just some of the surfaces were a little dusty - I recommend a deeper clean from time to time!
All things considered, this place is a steal - I'd come back again and hope I get the chance!
Coolest place I've ever stayed on air bnb, hands down. Artsy and comfortable, secluded but close enough to Santa Cruz to run errands and grab supplies. The house has thee coolest deck and outside lofted deck space. Michael was always available if I needed him and very thorough with instructions. It's perfect all around... I didn't want to leave! I am so excited to come back!
Nice home with bohemian vibe and very close to the ocean. Great getaway for a relaxing weekend although, the town itself does not have many options (or anything to do.) 3 restaurants that close early.
I love driving that stretch of Hwy 1 between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Now I have another great reason to stop in Davenport, besides goodies at the bakery or omelettes at the Roadhouse. My daughter and I had a wonderful overnight stay at Michael's. We were both familiar with the little town of Davenport, but unaware of the airbnb right there by the Roadhouse Inn and the Bakery until our stay Tuesday. We enjoyed a blues band and a supper next door before we settled in for a relaxing time at Michael's.
The house is funky chic, clean and comfortable. In the morning we sat on the front glassed in porch with our breakfast, enjoying the sun and fresh air. We took a walk to the beach, which was ours. (Okay, it was a Wednesday, not the weekend.)
We met our host, Michael around noon, who let us look at the bungalow and studio behind the house, all connected by broken-granite pathways and painted gates. There is enough outdoor space to bring a big group and sleep 16. You can even borrow boogie boards and wetsuits.
I like the art, metal work, the pottery with succulents and paintings everywhere. It is very Santa Cruz, yet clean and functional.
My daughter is already planning a time to bring friends for a coastal get together and enjoy the Bonny Doon tasting room next door.
We were very happy with the accommodations and the location. The only reason I might not want to give a high review is to not let the word get out. This is a little coastal gem.
Michael was the BEST! So informative and patient with our queries and relaxed! We LOVED the place and will definitely be back!!
We loved staying in Michael's very arty apartment. The beach across the road is great and the Whales Cafe next door did brilliant breakfasts and picnic supplies.
Great place in a lovely little spot. Michael was helpful and available too. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The house is brilliantly located and looks beautifull, Michael is an easy-going host - we had a great time!
My friends and I had a wonderful experience in the bungalow behind the main house of Micheal's place. It was a very pleasant surprise to see how well it accommodated the 5 of us and we had a lot of fun visiting the local beaches and swimming holes of the area. This place is a great experience and kind host for a bargain. Why stay in a stuffy hotel room when you could stay here?
