A very cool and arty place and location indeed! Perfect located between the ocean and an amazing bakery :) Michael was a perfect host and everything went smooth. The laundry room was a bit of a mess and made us confused when choosing linen for the bed sofa but it allt worked out fine. Friendly neighbors as well :)
Our stay at Michaels place was awesome. He was very welcoming and was happy to share his knowledge of the area with us. Will definitely stay at his place again.
Michael contacted us a couple of times before we arrived to make sure we had accurate directions and the information we needed to access the house, and we really appreciated this effort. The house itself was wonderful. As many have noted before: Its location is perfect ... right on Rte. 1 and right in the heart of Davenport (which is actually a rather small community). We wandered over to the neighboring Whale City Bakery for coffee in the morning and enjoyed both the coffee and the fresh-baked pastries there (as many guests have before).
The beach house was clean and eclectic (a winning combination!) and each room had character and style. We made dinner in the well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed it in the living room in front of the (unlit--it was very warm that evening) fireplace. The view from the house is spectacular and we memorably watched the sun set from the little balcony above the front of the property. There are a few properties neighboring this one and most were occupied the night we visited; however, we we never heard anyone other than a few people entering the gate in the early evening.
This is our second time staying at Michael's place - we liked it so much the first time we felt we needed to come back again.
The location is great - just across highway 1 from a beach with great waves and cliffs. There are also some decent restaurants right next door - so you can make your trip extra lazy.
The house itself is great. Lots of interesting art and creative touches.

About the Host, Michael
Hey there folks, my name is Michael. I operate a small villa with a front private house , a one bedroom bungalow in the back and other side studios, some self contained and others with shared bath and kitchen. We usually have an eclectic type of person that stays here, mostly artists, musicians, and alternative, progressive thinkers. These interesting people are drawn to this electric area maybe because we have giant redwood trees behind us and the Pacific Ocean in front of us. I live here and it's my job to make sure everyone is happy. Some nights the whole place will be full of travelers eating together, playing music, and telling story. Other nights a quite family of four arrives just to get away from the New York winter. In Davenport with a population of three hundred you get to know everybody quick. The local pub and bakery have two community events every week its quite a hoot. I'm 40 and love the area , born and raised in these hills and know every great hiking trail, every great surf spot, every great and marvelous thing to do and see in this area. We have a fun basket of toys and game equipment thats been donated by travelers and has accumulated over time , so we have wet suits and surf boards to frisbees and golf clubs. My days are full tending to the traveler and everyday I'm grateful to have the opportunity to share with people the villa space and all the beautiful things this area has to offer. This has taken almost half a life time to attain. I have traveled the world and lived in other places but I always find myself back in the Santa Cruz area. I know it, love it, and have this great job of sharing it. If anyone out there wants the front line tour, I can accommodate or if you just choose a cozy private night by the fire i can accommodate that. Like the beat of the ocean outside the villa, we march to our happy places that pull us away from our everyday grind, and I believe, this is the marching grounds for peace, happiness, well being, and adventure.... see ya soon Michael
