The Space

We are located in Davenport 9 miles north of Santa Cruz, directly on HWY 1 next to the whale city bakery. We have a 1 and 1/2 bedroom (leather couch and luv seat pull out is 1/2).1 bath fully remodeled with tub full kitchen also remodeled and eating area. Very comfortable cozy space for 3 or 4 people, 5 is doable. Huge front deck overlooking the ocean with an up stairs whale watching deck. From these places you can see the Bonny Doon mountains
behind us and the Pacific ocean in the front, quite nice. This area is a gold mine of things to do. You might find yourself grabbing some local roasted coffee and a hand made pastry in the mornings right next store from us. You could look for beach glass on the beach across the street or head 9 more miles north and visit the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo. There is Los Oso to Big Basin a beautiful day hike,
the opportunities are endless. We provide a perfect home base for ADVENTURE or LEISURE.For main house: 1 night $150 3 day weekend $400 One 7 day week $950. Side studio's available: $100 a night with communal kitchen and (email hidden)re pics on request . washer/dry wifi internet cable event space catering on request

  • This villa lived up to its description. You can walk to Whale City Bakery & Pub right next door, the Roadhouse, a nice but casual restaurant just a few doors down, and across Highway 1 and down to a gorgeous breath takingly beautiful beach in just a couple of minutes. The Roadhouse (email hidden) jazz band. The bakery had good beer, food and coffee.

The artwork and decor were really cool, "SF MOMA meets Haight Ashbury." Our neighbors in the back were a polite guitar-playing woman and a surfer/musician.
The bathroom tile was gorgeous and the place was filled with art.

    Not for:
    1. conservative religious folks; a variety of different religious symbols and art, from a variety of different religions were everywhere, eg Hindu goddess statues
    2. dogs or little kids because they could easily get into the street and get hit by a car on Highway 1; I'd never ever bring my dog there for that reason. A teenager would probably love it though.
    3. Fancy folk who love the crisp white just bleached sheets that a Hilton resort offers; it has a laid back college feel.

  • The Beach House was PERFECT for my daughter's 21st birthday event!! There was more room than I expected, so it was wonderful. They really enjoyed the decks. Love being right at the beach! As a family, we plan to come back.
There is only one actual bedroom, but that wasn't important at all for my daughter and all her friends. The fold outs and couches were great. Nice kitchen also.
The weather was amazing, and that doesn't always happen in June.
A month before our trip there was a problem with the back bungalow, but Michael helped solve that issue, and as it turned out there was plenty of room for all my daughter's friends in the front, so they were able to all stay in the one unit.

  • This little cute house on the beach is a really great place to stay with the family. But for people who wanna have action isn't it the right place. There are only a few shops and restaurants that makes this place so nice. Only the street is between the house and the beach. The street in front of the house is no problem at all. you can't hear anything at night. The only thing was that the house was not that clean how we would like to have it, the fifth Bed on the couch is really really small but there is a mattress in the cabinet which is bigger and also there is no possibility to open any window in there only the one in the bathroom. But anyway it was the most interesting house I have ever been. Such creative stuff in there.
What is also really nice is to walk or run along the beach or cliffs.
I recommend everyone to stay here even if it's just a night! :) michael seems to be a nice guy.

  • Great house with an even better view. Very uniquely furnished / decorated (from the mosaic walkway to the gorgeous redwood dining table). The house is vintage (probably 50-100 years old) but we found it charming and very well located - a quick 15 min drive from Santa Cruz and all the great restaurants but stills feels wonderfully remote. Front fenced yard was an unexpected bonus and great if you have dogs (note, there's a dog fee of $20 per dog).

  • Our experience at the 480 Villas in Davenport was more than we could have ever hoped for, complete with whale sitings, a musical jam session, a breathtaking beach, and beautiful home to call home away from home for a weekend. Michael was a most gracious host and from the moment we arrived we felt welcome within the community. We visited the Whale City Bakery Bar & Grill, a lovely breakfast spot, and fine dining at the Roadhouse Restaurant & Inn. My family and I will most definitely be returning!

  • Fun from start to finish. Michael's beach house is easy living as its finest. Nothing fancy but completely comfortable for the guys (and our boys) with lots to discover inside and out.

  • Michael (email hidden)ry communicative and helpful. The beach house is a fantastic, quaint little getaway. The only reason I am leaving a 4-star rating rather than 5 is the fact that the guest unit in the back has the same entrance gate so we had people walking past our windows day and night. Not as secluded as we had hoped.

A little bit of everything
Hey there folks, my name is Michael. I operate a small villa with a front private house , a one bedroom bungalow in the back and other side studios, some self contained and others with shared bath and kitchen. We usually have an eclectic type of person that stays here, mostly artists, musicians, and alternative, progressive thinkers. These interesting people are drawn to this electric area maybe because we have giant redwood trees behind us and the Pacific Ocean in front of us. I live here and it's my job to make sure everyone is happy. Some nights the whole place will be full of travelers eating together, playing music, and telling story. Other nights a quite family of four arrives just to get away from the New York winter. In Davenport with a population of three hundred you get to know everybody quick. The local pub and bakery have two community events every week its quite a hoot. I'm 40 and love the area , born and raised in these hills and know every great hiking trail, every great surf spot, every great and marvelous thing to do and see in this area. We have a fun basket of toys and game equipment thats been donated by travelers and has accumulated over time , so we have wet suits and surf boards to frisbees and golf clubs. My days are full tending to the traveler and everyday I'm grateful to have the opportunity to share with people the villa space and all the beautiful things this area has to offer. This has taken almost half a life time to attain. I have traveled the world and lived in other places but I always find myself back in the Santa Cruz area. I know it, love it, and have this great job of sharing it. If anyone out there wants the front line tour, I can accommodate or if you just choose a cozy private night by the fire i can accommodate that. Like the beat of the ocean outside the villa, we march to our happy places that pull us away from our everyday grind, and I believe, this is the marching grounds for peace, happiness, well being, and adventure.... see ya soon Michael
