Good sized double room right in the heart of London near many of its best tourist attractions. We've lived here for years, and hosted hundreds of happy Airbnb guests so we know the area and how to help people get the best from it. Get in touch!

The Space

We've been hosting on here for two years now and have now had hundreds of guests come through our doors, we also travel regularly using Airbnb. Between those two things we have a really good feel for what people are looking for when staying with us and using Airbnb. We love meeting people from around the world and welcoming them to our home, a quick read through the feedback paints the picture for you.

This is a good sized double room in a period mansion block, one minute from Waterloo train station. We have renovated it over the last three years to a very high standard, retaining all its original character.

The room has a good size double bed, wardrobe and drawers, recently decorated with stripped wood floors and plenty of space for luggage etc. In the rest of the flat we have a communal living room with cable and an LCD TV as well as very high speed (120meg+) broadband throughout the flat. The kitchen is new, finished recently with high spec units, Italian tiles and top spec appliances like a Bosch dishwasher and Miele washing machine. The bathroom is small but perfectly formed with a powerful rain shower. There is a separate toilet.

The real highlight of the flat though is the location, which is quite frankly amazing and the main reason we chose to live here. For transport it is 30 secs from Waterloo train station. Basically, getting anywhere in London is within easy reach on the tube/bus etc.

It is walking distance (under 15 mins) to the Southbank (Tate Modern, BFI, Hayward etc), Covent Garden, The House of Parliament, Big Ben, The London Eye and many more attractions. Closer still (1 min) Lower Marsh market is emerging as one of London's cutest little markets with over ten international street food stalls.

We know the area and London very well and provide a written guide to our guests but will be very happy to help with information about eating, drinking, sightseeing and anything else we can.

We have a total of two rooms to let, we live in the third.

The rate includes a nice, simple continental style breakfast. Bagels, preserves, cereals, juice, tea and coffee that kind of thing.

The flat is on the third floor so a few easy steps are necessary, unfortunately this means no disabled access is possible.

Parking can be arranged for an extra fee (it costs us money to buy it).

  • I would recommand this address: The flat is a bit small, but nicely decorated, perfectly situated. Théo and Danielle were very friendly and gave us good advice for our first trip in London.

  • We enjoyed our first airbnb experience staying with Theo and Danielle in London! No problems whatsoever. We received detailed information via email on how to get to the apartment as quickly as possible, my girlfriend arrived hours before me, no problems. Theo and Danielle arranged everything. Sure, the apartment and the rooms are quite small, but it's London - bear that in mind, when planning a trip, you'll get that everywhere there (I'm just emphasizing this, because some people complained about this - no problem for us!). Because of the central location of Theo and Danielle's apartment, we went sightseeing without using public transport at all - really nice! We recommend this place if you want to see London, it is a few minutes walk to all the great attractions London has to offer!

  • Great location, very nearby to Waterloo & Southbank Centre (where I was speaking at a conference, so it was perfect). Room was cosy & nicely furnished, good shower (always important!) and very welcoming hosts. The balcony outside had a view of the London Eye lit up at night which was lovely.

    It is up a number of flights of stairs, which can be a little bit of a challenge with luggage, but that's a consideration not a negative!

  • Our stay was bittersweet. I think this would be a great place if I were travelling alone, just for leisure.
    Among the things I really liked about the place - the location was excellent. About a block away from the Lambeth North station and 4 blocks from Waterloo. The Lower Marsh and The Cut are also a block away on either side, both full of cozy neighborhood bars & restaurants. The apartment is very cute & fashionably decorated. We enjoyed tea & coffee & granola & almond milk for breakfast each morning. Wifi was very helpful in planning our days.
    Among the disappointing things - we weren't given any info on how to enter the building prior to our arrival. This meant we dragged our luggage through the rain, guessed at the location, only to find that we couldn't enter the building. Had to find a coffee shop with wifi (there are several nearby) and wait for Theo to return our email (since we didn't have phone service). The room we stayed in was not actually the one pictured, and it was tight for two people staying for a week. Our window opened to the walkway outside, so we couldn't keep the curtains open or else people would see right in. The closet and wardrobe were full of someone else's things. We had exactly one drawer and 5 hangers between the two of us. Even the bottom of the closet had someone else's shoes. So we were tightly packed into a rather small room with absolutely nowhere to put our things. I would have been less bothered if I weren't in town partially to attend a professional conference. Theo knew this, and I wish he had mentioned that it might be difficult to prepare for our day in such a small space - nowhere to hang your clothes, nowhere to iron - or had put us in a room with an empty closet & dresser. Perhaps this could have been remedied if we had had a chance to mention it to them, but we didn't actually meet each other until Day 7 of our 8-day stay.
    Overall, the apartment is lovely and homey, but though the pictures are in fact of this apartment, they are misleading. The living room, bedroom, bathroom, are all crammed full of much more stuff than is pictured. You can't actually open the bathroom door more than halfway because of stuff hanging on the back of the door. There were other people staying here, too, throughout our stay. I'm not sure how many. One night we came in to find people eating in the kitchen, in the dark. Sometimes the living room door was shut. I walked in on a guy in the bathroom in the middle of the night, because the door wasn't locked. Overall, I felt a little like sardines in a tin, confined to my small living space. Fortunately, we had plenty to do outside.

    Hi Courtney,

    Thanks for the detailed review and I'm glad you had a good stay overall and would recommend us. There are some of issues you raise I'm keen to address for other potential guests reading this though as I don't feel they full represent what we offer:

    1. You arrival, you were the first people to have ever not received my thorough written directions in advance, I'm not sure why but the email didn't get to you. However as you mention even though you had no phone I came back to you promptly by email and helped you find the apartment and get in within about 20 minutes.
    2. The rooms absolutely are the ones in the pictures, they are Airbnb verified photos, taken and verified by Airbnb and representatives.
    3. The rooms each have a wardrobe and drawers, they aren't completely empty but the things in there are our things not 'someone else's'. If more draw space or hanging space was needed all you had to do was ask and we would have happily arranged it.
    4. We have an iron and ironing board guests can and do use regularly, again you just needed to ask.
    5. Other people in the house, as we mention in the listing we have two rooms to rent in the flat. So during your stay there was someone in the other room plus myself and my wife. Not a mystery number of people.
    6. Your comments over space are absolutely not the experience of most of our guests, we often have people staying in both guest rooms and everyone co-exists happily with plenty of space.

    Overall almost all of these issues could have been resolved if you guys had just spoken to us, in person, by phone or email. Instead you came and left the house silently without talking to anyone, and ignored my messages on Airbnb to check in with you. People reading this review will see almost all our other reviews where guests have been welcomed by us in to our home with open arms and given a warm welcome and great experience by talking to us, getting tips and generally getting what they need both inside the flat and out. When you're staying in someone's home, communication goes a long way.

  • We loved the location of the flat. The Old Vic is a short walk away, and we had no trouble getting tickets to watch Vanessa Redgrave and James Earle Jones perform. The National Theatre is nearby as well.
    Theo was very helpful in suggestions for restaurants and etc. Coffee, tea, bread for toast, juice, and cereal were provided, which was awesome.
    The picture given is of the living room, into which one never enters due to the fact that there are so many people residing in such a small place one tends to stay in one's only private area - one's room. Indeed, we struggled to use the loo, (there is a toilet room and a separate room for a shower), as inevitably there would be someone just outside the door in the tiny, narrow hallway, or in the kitchen which right next to the toilet as well.
    Having said that, the rooms are pleasant, the bed was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed staying there for the most part. The apartment building is run-down in a run-down neighbourhood, but it is very near to the Tube and the Thames, and the heart of the city.

    Thanks for your review and I'm glad you had a good stay. I'd just like to take this opportunity to correct you on saying we're in a run down building or neighbourhood. As you rightly point out we are a thirty second walk from the Old Vic, one of the most prestigious theatres in the world and a five minute walk from the South Bank, London's leading cultural centre. These aren't the type of amenities you find in a run-down neighbourhood. Also, all guests are very welcome to use the living room as we make clear when people arrive, it was empty for most of your stay as I recall.

  • Location was excellent and Theo was very helpful and communicative. He provided excellent clear instructions and kitchen amenities were excellent. Tina was welcoming and very helpful.

  • It was a very nice, homey apartment, close to everything. We had a nice smooth stay. Theo's wife very kindly stayed up late to let us in and set us up in the apartment. She even helped us get our Oyster cards in the AM.

    The apartment was clean, we were welcomed to a well stocked fridge.

    We actually stayed twice, and the second time we had the place to ourselves. Theo was very prompt returning my texts to sort out check in plans, their neighbor let us in and got us set up.

    The only negative is the kids in the neighborhood play very loudly during the day. No big deal though.

  • Very pleasant stay in London helped by the fact that the flat was so well located. We found it very easily with Theo's directions and it was as described. We slept vey well, mattress was very comfy and the neighbour who let us in was friendly. Would definitely recommend.

  • My mum and I had a wonderful stay at Theo and Danielle's. We loved the location: super close to the tube, the south bank, restaurants and theatres, and a pleasant walk to covent garden and the central city. The apartment is very clean and comfortable with some cool decorating. Danielle and Theo are friendly and welcoming hosts and were happy to offer us fantastic recommendations for neighbourhood restaurants and day trips. We had a great time in London (and Brighton!) and would be happy to stay here again next time!

We're just back from a round the world trip where we used Airbnb in several continents and had great experiences. We've decided to rent out our flat over the summer to give us some flexibility while we settle back in and a bit of extra cash. We feel that after all the travelling we have just done we are in a great place to be able to know what people will want from a visit to London, especially at such an exciting time. Both of us love music and much of our lives revolve around it. We've lived in London for a few years and know the area where the flat is really well, its a great place to be and we're looking forward to sharing our experience with guests.
