This has been the best part of our Greek trip. Hosts Sandra and Daniel are very nice and friendly, caring and patient. The experience is unique and superb to feel the Greek Islands. We hope to sail again in the future.
The boat trip was fantastic --saw many islands --was a little disappointed that the initial itinerary was to a small port in turkey and we never got there -- and no real reason was given why we didn't.
You must like the open sea --for this trip
It is unfortunate there seems to had been some misunderstanding of what this itinerary would look like as specified in emails and over the phone prior the cruise. This specific sailing leg was starting in Rhodes, Dodecanese and ending in Paros, Cyclades - quite a distance to cover, in seven days there were many islands and many bays to visit that were a 'must' from a naturalistic and 'touristic' viewpoint. The only village in Turkey was left out uniquely due to weather i.e. wind conditions at the time which did not allow for deviation up North.
I reiterated, as always and as previous first-time guests in the variable wind Aegean Sea witnessed, that the itinerary cannot be fixed on a sailing type of cruise as it is highly conditioned by weather i.e. wind conditions.
Nevertheless we always enclose alternatives and interesting sites according to our guests individual preferences for either beaches, historical venues, archeological sites, typical villages, swimming and snorkelling area etc.
We had the BEST time on the Marion Seagull!
A friend and I booked a 5-day cabin charter in the Dodecanese from Rhodes (Kamiros Skala). The captain (Daniele) and his first mate (Giannis) were incredibly hospitable and really went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. What I liked best about our trip with them: Daniele knows the islands (and their residents!) well and chose places and excursions that were incredibly enjoyable and unique. We were so pleased to see/do things we would have never experienced on a gigantic cruise ship. A few of the highlights: exploring the deserted island of Alimnia, taking a stroll up the lovely streets of Chalki, visiting a monastery and drinking ouzo/eating loukoumades at a taverna in Tilos, and visiting a hamam in Datca, Turkey.
One note if you've never done a cabin charter before: yacht charters like this require one to be flexible as weather/wind can dictate where you'll be able to go. For us, it was a storm that kept us at a port in Turkey for a day--it was a revision to our original schedule that turned out to be really great.
The yacht was quite comfortable (even for two "overpackers" sharing a cabin). The bathrooms have manual marine toilets (which I think is fairly standard). The living space off the kitchen was a nice place to relax during a rainstorm. We opted for a half-board (breakfast and lunch). Daniele is a fabulous cook--we had some fantastic pasta dishes and a stellar tzatziki.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience that we definitely recommend!
We had a terrific experience sailing for a week with Sandra and Daniele. The food was terrific and our family was able to see some small bays and unbelievable beaches around Greece and Turkey that we just would never have had the opportunity without this incredible opportunity for anybody to take advantage of. Top notch and thank you very much!!
a passionate lover of the sea.
