The Space

Enjoy Bed & Breakfast in a luxury home in the Glengarriff Nature Reserve's old growth oak forest. Right on the boundary of the reserve, this home offers spectacular views, fabulous off-road walking trails, and is central to exploring West Cork and the Wild Atlantic Way.

This recently built, architect-designed home is a private retreat in one of West Cork's most beautiful spots. A private large bedroom with an American king sized bed and its own bathroom looks out over the surrounding forest and mountains.

Enjoy full access to the rest of the house that has an open-plan living room/dining room/gourmet kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in spectacular views from every direction and a fireplace and jazz and classical music CDs for the evenings. A cozy library/television room has an internet connection, WiFi, and a large collection of DVDs. The energy-efficient light-filled house, filled with books and contemporary Irish art, is very privately situated on 4 acres of wild meadows and woodlands.

Breakfast is tea or coffee, juice, bread or toast, jam, cheese, yoghurt, cereal. If you want a full cooked Irish breakfast, please let me know in advance (€5 extra). You are welcome to use the kitchen for simple meals as long as you clean up after yourself!

This is a large house for you to enjoy, with plenty of privacy and an accomodating host when you need it.

The house overlooks what was formerly Lord Bantry's hunting estate, now a 250 acre forest reserve that offers over 60 kilometers of walking trails just out the door, yet the house is only 5 minutes drive (35 minute walk) from Glengarriff village with great pubs and dining. It is on the Beara Way, the long distance walking trail of the Beara Penninsula. This is a very beautiful and quiet place to be, to enjoy fresh air, bird song, spring water, a garden and terrace, and the plants and animals of the forest. It's a part of Ireland that few see, truly a magical place.

Glengarriff is a charming village on a small harbour north of Bantry. Surrounded by stunning mountains and old oak forests, its romantic position on the water has attracted visitors since the early days of tourism in Ireland. There are great pubs and restaurants, craft shops, an art gallery, a small grocery store with post office and a hairdressers and pharmacy in the village. Garnish Island (Illnacullen) in Glengarriff harbour is a world-famous garden. It is a walker's paradise, and a good base to use to explore West Cork and Kerry.

Located at the gateway to the Beara penninsula, this is one of the most rugged and beautiful parts of Ireland. Enjoying a moderate climate most of the year, it's paradise for travellers who want to take their time to discover why West Cork is one of the best places in Europe to enjoy exceptional landscape, friendly people, good walking, and good food. The house is equidistant to Bantry town and Kenmare, both lovely market towns with good shopping, restaurants and entertainment that are 20-30 minutes away. There are several golf courses within easy reach of the house, and boating and fishing in Glengarriff harbour and Bantry Bay.

Travel times to Glengarriff (by car):
Cork airport 80 minutes
Dublin (4.5-5 hours)
Bantry 20 minutes
Kenmare 25 minutes
Killarney 60 minutes

There is public bus service (Bus Eireann) from Cork to Glengarriff year round. Walking time to/from Glengarriff village is about 35 minutes each way. Biking in the area is fabulous.

Guest Access

Guests enjoy a large king-sized bed in a very generous bedroom, their own bathroom (shower and bath), access to living and dining areas, including a library, satelite TV and a large DVD collection. Fast wifi is also available.

Interaction with Guests

If you want privacy, you will find it here, since my quarters are well removed from the rest of the house. If you want conversation, I'm happy to visit, and hope I'm always helpful.

The Neighborhood

The house is 1.5 miles from Glengarriff village, a charming, small cluster of pubs, shops, and activity. Walking in the surrounding woods, is mostly off-road, and is extraordinarily beautiful. You have access to more that 20 km walking trails from the house.

Getting Around

There is public bus service to Glengarriff several times a day.

Other Things to Note

Because you will be a guest in my home, I would appreciate it if you would complete your profile and tell me a little about yourself as you make a booking.
