The Space

Hello! Welcome to my 2-bedroom flat in the Mission/Potrero Hill/Valencia/Guerrero Streets Neighborhood~ in a gated-community!! I have one small-medium-sized bedroom with double-bed (which is 1 bed for two people), CD player, fan, and 2 lovely bicycles included!! The room also has an iron, hairdryer, supplies for nearby laundrymat, there is a shared kitchen, and wifi to boot! There is also a shared bathroom, with shower and an old-scallope-footed bathtub. The flat is an old, railroad style flat on the second floor, with narrow and long hallways known in San Fransciso interior architecture! The noisy neighbor just moved out, but from time to time there may be some residual noise in the guest room that can not be heard in the rest of the flat because the guest window is connected to a shared outlet. If you choose, I also have a window fan that either blows air in the room, or out, and when it is on, there is no noise in the room at all....
15 minute walk to Bart, two buses pass by (#27 & #12) that go downtown to Financial District, Moscone Center, MOMA, Department Stores, and Ferry Building Area, and Fisherman's Wharf.. Mission Street is about 6 blocks west. The Castro is about a 15 minute bike-ride away or a 25ish minute walk!! Can take a longer walk to Market Street, and take the Trolley or Muni downtown to Fisherman's Wharf, or take Bart to the Embarcadero Center, Ferry Building, Oakland, Berkeley, and both San Francisco International Airport and Oakland Airport....
For shopping, there is a Safeway 5 blocks away; Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are about a 15 minute walk too!!
Flat is only 10 minutes away from the San Francisco International Airport by taxi, or take Bart to 24th Street or 16th Street Stations and walk 15 minutes!
Close to the Bay Bridge, Highway 101 and Highway 280.
Normally it is can be easy to find street parking, but there are new bars and cafes, and most of the parking is only restricted 2-Hour parking during the day. Weekend and evening parking sometimes can be easier..
The new cafes and restaurants within a block or so include Atlas Cafe (which is listed in Lonely Planet San Francisco) and Blowfish Sushi on the otherside of the street. There are 2 new restaurants, Central Kitchen with wonderful sit-in deli, and Local's Corner, 2 corner stores, a brand new laundrymat with free wifi and new washing machines and dryers, and a Bank of America ATM about a 5 minute walk down to 24th Street. Chase Bank is a 10 minutes walk in the other direction at the local shopping center.
Yoga Tree Valencia is a 15 minutes walk from the flat near Mission Street and 24th Street, with many drop-in yoga classes.24Hour Fitness gym (which includes a swimming pool) is also 10-minute walk in the other direction; by Safeway.
Shared TV in livingroom, and there is a full shared kitchen if you like, with your own space to put food.
Two cats live here too, and there is some sign that they live here just in case you have never stayed somewhere with pets! They generally stay in my bedroom, but will come out and say hi in the livingroom and down the hall! They tend to be very friendly, especially Zach, who is 4. Geena, 14, is a bit more reserved, but will probably say hi to you from time to time too!!
I have two bikes that are included in the stay. One of my previous bikes got stolen recently, so I bought a new cruiser bike.... There is one male cruiser bike with new huge cushioned cruiser seat, and one female cruiser bike... they have only one speed, but they are great for biking around the mission and going downtown towards fisherman's wharf! Many of my guests take them on the long ride through many neighborhoods across the golden gate bridge to Sausalito, and then take the ferry back to San Francisco with the bikes. However, some guests find this is too far, and have rented a bike near the bridge, or taken the bikes in a car closer to the Golden Gate Bridge. If you want a rest from the bikes, you can also put them on one of San Francisco's Muni Buses, and often it is possible to take a bike with you on Bart... just ask the station manager which cars are set aside for riders with bikes.
I have used AirBnB myself, and would love to have some interesting people pass through!! I am a counseling psychology intern in Holistic Psychology, and also work with children as a teacher!
Please email me if you have any questions!!
I try to get back to everyone's inquiry within 12 hours at the most...
Anyway, thanks for looking, and hope to see you soon!
Best wishes,

Colleen is a top notch host, sharing superb stories and knowledge about this beautiful city. We really wish we had more time to spend in SF. We'll hopefully be back ASAP! We definitely recommend staying with Colleen in her lovely apartment, its a no-brainer.

  • Colleen's apartment was our favourite place to stay on our trip. She was really friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and had everything we needed. We loved the area so much, it gave us the chance to see a different side of San Francisco. We would definitely recommend it and would love to stay again please!

  • We had a great week in San Francisco staying with Colleen! The apartment and the room itself were pretty much exactly what we were expecting from seeing the photos and reading the reviews from previous guests. Not luxury (as Colleen mentions in her description) but cosy, quirky and homely and perfect for our requirements with a comfy bed and fast Wifi. Colleen was very welcoming to us, and little touches like giving us designated shelf space in the bathroom and kitchen were a great way to make us feel at home. She also gave us local recommendations and her guide books were really useful.

As a couple in our late 20s looking to explore the city, Colleen's apartment was in pretty much an ideal location for us. So close to such amazing food to suit all budgets ($6 veggie burritos - YUM!!) coffee shops, friendly bars and transport links just a few blocks away. The BART and buses in SF are brilliant, you can go anywhere from the Mission. Once we'd gotten a feel for it, it felt safe and pleasant walking round the neighbourhood.

A big highlight was the bikes! They are big and heavy - not like our own bikes at home - but we quickly got used to them. We spent our first day cycling round the whole city - all the way to Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate bridge (all flat roads with great, safe bike lanes!) then pushed our bikes up a massive hill then cycled down the hill through the Castro to make a full loop. A magical day! We saw full day bike rentals from shops for $40-60 per bike so getting them included at Colleen's is a great bonus.

Thank you Colleen! We would stay with you again if we return to SF :)

  • Had a great stay at Colleen's place. She was a great host and really friendly and personable. Her place might seem a bit off the map, tourist wise, but I assure you that the area is really nice and dare I say it 'cool'. SF is pretty small and most places you might want to see are either walk-able or a short cab ride (I recommend you download the 'lyft' app), so it's really well situated for bars, restaurants and so on. Place was clean, there was coffee, cats were a delight. Additionally, Colleen personally went out of her way for us more than once - so she's a genuine good egg. Couldn't ask for more given the low price.

  • Colleen was a wonderful host. She left my friend and I with guidebooks, maps, and plenty of her own tips. She also left us with towels and treats. Even while nursing a cold, Colleen was friendly and attentive. We were able to use her kitchen to store, prepare, and eat meals which added to the experience. If you are sensitive to noise, bring earplugs. Her neighbors are lively.
