Enjoy a stay in your garden-view room with your own bathroom! It is a modern house with pubs, restaurants and a café in easy walking distance. From here, you can explore the Atlantic coast, Aran Islands, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher & much more!

The space

I offer a guest room with its own private bathroom just for your own use.

The room has a single bed, and looks out onto the garden, so it is very quiet at night. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and showerhead, towels, soap, shower gels, shampoos, tooth paste and hairdryer.

I have a second room which is a bit smaller, equipped with a comfy big airbed. If there are two of you who want to come and stay with me, feel free to inquire. I won't rent out the second room separately, only to two people who know each other and don't mind sharing the private bathroom. Rate as shown in the listing.

You can relax in the garden, or watch TV (Sky, Irish channels) with a nice cup of tea - or coffee :-) ...

The house is located in a residential area just off the market square of Lisdoonvarna, a town on the edge of a unique area called the Burren and very close to the Cliffs of Moher.

By car, it's only 10 min. to the sea and Doolin, 45 min. to Ennis, 50 min. to Shannon Airport, and max 1.5 hours to Galway.

If you come by car:
The best way to travel in Ireland (unless you are staying in big cities only) is renting a car. This enables you to discover all the hidden, magical corners of the Emerald Isle. There is no car hire in Lisdoonvarna, best way to get a car is at the arrival airport. Off-street parking around the corner, (motor)bikes can be safely parked in the garden.

Pubs with evening entertainment from traditional to contemporary music, as well as restaurants and cafés are in walking distance.
One of the pubs, the Roadside Tavern, offers their own lager, red ale and stout which are brewed by the owner of the pub in the pub itself! Extremely tasty and definitely worth a tasting. Also, there are traditional music sessions on every night in summer, and contemporary music gigs on Sunday nights. Search for "Roadside Tavern Lisdoonvarna" for the music schedule. Well worth going there for the atmosphere and the great food from the award-winning kitchen.

County Clare's biggest salmon smokehouse and visitor centre (Burren Smokehouse) is one of the main attractions in town. Local amenities comprise grocery stores and a butcher, a pharmacy, a church, a surgery, a riding stable, local walking guides etc.

Ireland's only spa in its beautiful Victorian building has been reopened to the public this summer and is well worth a visit.

The Doolin Caves are only a 5 to 10 min drive away and feature one of the biggest stalactites in the world (6 m long hanging from the cave ceiling!).

Doolin also offers ferry rides to the Aran Islands during the summer months, and along the majestic Cliffs of Moher. Great ideas for a day trip!

To see pictures from the west of Ireland and my area, the Burren and Ireland in general, search for "Karin Funke Redbubble".

You can have a lovely stroll from my house in the evening to wind down and let the day's memories sink in.

Wifi is available in the house if you bring your own device.

The three resident cats are affectionate and docile. They are open to bribery (but nothing smoked or sugary, and no pork, please!).

There is no cash machine (ATM) in Lisdoonvarna, the nearest is in Ennistymon, 15 min. by car south of Lisdoonvarna. So it would be advisable to stock up on money before you get here.

Guest access

You have access to the kitchen if you want to prepare your own breakfast, the living room with TV and DVD player, the garden and of course your own bathroom.

Interaction with guests

I am living in the house with my three cats, so I will be available to help you with questions you might have, or with suggestions for walks, the absolute must-sees of the area etc.
I have also gathered a lot of information about visitor attractions, maps etc. which are available in the guest room.
As it might be a bit too much to take all in, I have written up a house manual with all the information needed.

I am a geocacher and photographer, so I can give you tips for the best geocaches in the area, and the best locations for photography trips.

Other things to note

Bikes - pushbikes or motorbikes - can be parked safely in the garden which has a wall and a gate. Cars can park around the corner in a designated space off the road.
There is a radio/CD player in your room.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Karin in her pleasant home. The bedroom and en suite bathroom are clean, bright and cozy. Communication was excellent and friendly yet I felt I had my private space. I will be coming back again to stay.

Karin's home is a perfect place to stay in Lisdoonvarna. It is two blocks from the main square (which is also where the bus from Galway stops, which you can also easily take to the Cliffs of Moher) and also on a road that you can follow for a beautiful countryside walk. Karin communicated well, the house was lovely and clean, and the room was a perfect place to read, write, and relax. With a car, it would be a great base camp to explore the Burren, and easy access to the bus made that possible even without a car. Recommended place to stay.

Karin is a lovely hostess. This is her private home, but she made me feel quite comfortable, and I had my own bedroom and bathroom. Her home is comfortable and clean, and you can easily walk into town to a number of lovely restaurants, pubs, live music, and grocery store. It is 15 minutes drive to Cliffs of Moher and the ferries in Doolin, which go daily to the Aran Islands. I enjoyed Karin's home and company. :-)

Great house, kitchen was clean and easy to use. Water pressure was a big lagging in the bathroom but the water was hot and felt great after hiking the Cliffs of Moher. Only had one issue... although check-in was at 1700 I arrived and had to wait until 1750 for Karin to get home (I had to eventually call her). She was at work, and sent me two messages via AirBNB that day at 1315 informing me that she would be late and what time did I want to check-in. As I don't have international data I never received the messages. I suggested that in the future if she was working to try and message guests a day before as many are traveling and will only have access to wifi the night when they're staying at another location.

Response from Karin:
Hello Ted, Thank you for your review though I was a bit surprised by the criticism you expressed. I was waiting for you to contact me, as I am waiting more than full-time and can't leave work early to wait for somebody who might or might not turn up at 5pm. So maybe I can suggest something as well: if you don't want to keep waiting, just make sure that you double-check with the host re arrival time. I usually contact the guests in time for them to answer me by email, if they haven't made contact with me. Sorry if that fell through, but I was working all hours to organise a festival. And to be honest, I felt at the time that communication from your side wasn't great. Funny how we can perceive things so differently. :-) I hope your trip ended well, and thank you again for staying with me.
