About this listing
Enjoy a peaceful stay in a 1938 cottage one block from Englewood Park, an easy mile or so by foot, car, bus, or pedicab to the Oregon State Capitol, Willamette University and downtown and a half mile to the Oregon State Hospital. Consider flying into Portland, taking the Hut Shuttle Bus to the Salem Airport, riding in a bicycle, or your host's car, to your charmed provisional Salem home. Transportation is available from the nearby Amtrak station as well.
This is a comfortable and artful mini-apartment that has a bedroom with a queen size bed, a bathroom, and a living room with a comfortable futon couch that sleeps two. A small refrigerator in the living room is stocked with simple nutritious breakfast foods but there are no cooking facilities. There is access to a spacious and unique front porch and high speed internet is available.
Englewood is a very quiet, peaceful, and friendly neighborhood. The house is surrounded by gardens and nearby Englewood Park, the Jason Lee Cemetery, and the Oregon State Hospital grounds provide pleasant places to stroll and watch the sun set, the moon rise.
Interaction with Guests
Your host and her 3 year old granddaughter reside in the other side of the house. She is a long time Salem resident and, upon request, will be available to help make your stay as productive and pleasant as possible.
Englewood is an old, charming and diverse, centrally located neighborhood surrounded by 200 foot Douglas Firs and Cedars.
The Cherriots bus stop is 3 blocks away, the nearest grocery store is about half mile away...about 15 minutes by foot, and the Amtrak station is a mile from here. The Green Cab company (bicycle powered) will also pick you up at the house and take you anywhere in Salem for whatever price you think is fair. The Hut Shuttle Bus, to and from Portland Airport, arrives nearby at the Salem Airport and your host is willing to provide transportation to the house to and from there, making mass transit work!
Other Things to Note
There are so many things to appreciate in this valley and in this town; agriculture, viticulture, the natural wonder of Silver Creek Falls State Park, Pacific Northwest Native Plants, terrific hikes very close to town, the carousel and Riverfront Park to name just a few. If you'd make your interests known ahead of time, your host will do her best to guide you.
