There are lawned areas for children to play on although children should be supervised at all times as whilst this is a quiet hamlet and the houses are off road the occasional car and tractor do pass by. Our French neighbours are very welcoming. The property is an ideal location for exploring and the English owners have an in depth knowledge of the area -they are also French speaking and live on the site. They will be available to help and advise. There are 5 other houses in the hamlet all owned by French so this is an ideal opportunity to experience 'the real French experience'.

The cottage has its own garden furniture, private space and barbecue. There is also a garden across the country road looking over corn fields and containing a newly renovated bread oven. This is a tranquil area to sit during the evenings and watch the beautiful sunset.

Our nearest town 5 minutes drive is Tremblay which has some attractive houses from the 11th century. Tremblay was the birthplace of botanist Rene Louiche-Desfontaines who set up a national botanic specimen collection in the Museum d' Histoire Naturelle. He introduced the cultivation of Durum wheat in to France in 1933. Tremblay erected a bust in his honour.
The property is ideally located for visiting the beaches of Normandy and Brittany- all within 30 mins. There are many stunning coastal villages including St. Suliac which is listed as one of the prettiest villages of Ille et Vilaine. Cancale the oyster capital of Europe is also only a 40 mins drive away. The famous medieval walled town of St. Malo overlooking a large harbour and beautiful sandy beach is only an hours drive. • While planning our holiday in France, I thought that the best part of our trip would be to visit (website hidden) Michel. However, the real best part of the trip was staying at Judith’s home.
Judith’s and Graham's cottage didn’t look like in the pictures; it was much better. No picture can provide you with the fresh air that you can breathe in the morning when you step outside the house, the air which acts as a wine. No picture can provide you with the taste of the wine from the welcome basket – light, like air. And no picture can provide you with the smell of cracking wood in the fireplace.
Judith and Graham cared for every small detail to make their guests feel at home: umbrellas, shampoo, hairdryer, the information package – a very useful guide book for sightseeing in the area, and more, and more, and more. It was so quiet there that a person like me with a heavy sleeping problem, slept like a baby, for the first time in many years. Also it was so very clean and definitely can be recommended for people suffering from allergic problems. Everything was perfect – the location, the house and of course our charming hosts. I travel a lot over the world and manage a “top ten apartments” list. This one is on top of the top.

  • My stay in Judith and Graham's cottage will be one that I will never forget. Totally amazing experience, in a fantastic place, right in the middle of nature and magic, close to every interesting place in Brittany (and Normandy too!) and made even more enjoyable by exquisite hosts. I was over the moon and Nello, my dog, will dream about our week in Ardilloux for a very long time, I fear :-D. Top experience!

I relocated to France with my husband 5 years ago after a rewarding career as an English and French teacher. We love travelling and enjoy welcoming people to our cottages and giving them a holiday experience we ourselves would like to enjoy. I am an avid reader and enjoy all genre of books, films and music. I love gardening and we grow our own veg and herbs which guests are welcome to share. When our orchard is in season guests can also help themselves to apples, plums peaches and apricots.I lived in a busy town in my previous life and love the tranquillity of our location and all the wonderful wildlife. We have many returning guests and the one thing they always say is how peaceful and relaxing our location is. We are also perfectly placed to visit the beautiful attractions of Brittany including the stunning Mont St Michel only 25 mins drive away.
