This is considered on of the most beautiful resorts of the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, very near the Manuel Antonio National Park and the ideal place to spend a day out on a Tour to Cano Island without leaving this unique place. The gardens are known to be one of the most beautiful of the region with a very large collection of tropical plants, flowers and with a private trail to a waterfall in the middle of the rainforest.

I used TripAdvisor for planning the majority of my holidays. I and my wife Derby decided that this time in Costa Rica we would spend 7 nights in Manuel Antonio area at La Palapa Ecolodge for what friends told us about the resort, and I confirmed what was on Tripadvisor. We also wanted to be away from people but near the National Park and because of the activities we wanted to participate. The policy of La Palapa towards the preservation of wildlife and the rainforest was also an issue that we very interested to be part and find out more.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the resort, all of our expectations were met and exceeded. The Bungalow was large and well decorated with views over the gardens and swimming pool. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom always very clean. We spent most of our early mornings reading on the balcony, watching the birds and listen to their songs, and seeing beautiful colored butterflies. The restaurant that is by the pool is very clean with a very refreshing shade from the roof palm leaves. Breakfast there includes tropical fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, tea and coffee, followed by Pinto Rice, eggs, toast and bacon which were very good. We had all of our dinners at the Bar/Restaurant “Pura Vida”, that were very pleased with the selection of simple good food and good service. Cristina the owner and Michelin the cook were simply great company and very good helping people that we particularly enjoyed very much.
We ventured out of the hotel by bicycle that we rented at the resort which was a great experiences when we did the roads around and up the resort and observed the wildlife, animals and wide variety of tropical plants.
We would highly recommend La Palapa to anyone thinking about planning a Holiday to Costa Rica. The rainforest Tour is a must while you are there, and you should take every opportunity to get to know the neighbor people of the village. We visited the Primary School of Portalon that we all exceedingly kind and the resort sponsors a environment program for the education of the children of this school. We both have been in heaven and relaxed, and we both agreed it was the perfect holiday in Costa Rica, because we stayed in this beautiful resort called La Palapa.

We stayed at La Palapa Ecolodge resort 3 nights. The location is actually 20+km away from Quepos, in the small village of Portalon. Our room was spacious, we had a queen sized bed and another single bed. The furniture was Caribbean style (rattan), simple but functional. Our room didn't have a fridge or TV, the wifi worked only at the restaurant and around the pool. The pool was lovely, clean and surrounded by lush vegetation. Our room had a ceiling fan and an additional fan to cool down the temperature, which was fine for me, my husband was a bit hot at night. The lack of TV was actually nice, we went to bed very early. On two nights out of three we experienced frequent power outages, probably due to the rain. It would have been nice to have at least a couple of glasses in the room and a proper blanket, the bed had only the linen and the top cover. The breakfast was tipico (rice&beans, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit, coffee and natural juice), tasty and plentiful. The staff was polite and attentive, very prompt in assisting us. They made our beds and sweeped the floors daily. The gardeners were always at work, tending the huge garden, which is like a paradise, indeed. They're doing a great job! There were very few other tourists around during our stay, which was nice. There are some nice restaurants (sodas) around, at various distances. We drove, which was convenient and the ecolodge resort gave us a handmade map with the closest sodas and tourist attractions. The downside, from my perspective, was the lack of maintenance of the room. The shower had a lot of black mold on the walls, tiles, etc. The faucets and the glass wall were dirty, the floor in the shower also seemed not cleaned, thus I wore my flipflops while taking showers. The room had a strong smell of mold as well. The bathroom walls were dirty and had various stains, the electrical panel was shabby and looked broken. The walls in the room had spider webs in the corners and there were plenty dead insects on the window sill. The door had a big termite hole in the corner and there were plenty termite trails on the exterior walls. We live in the Caribbean and we know that, due to high humidity, the black mold appears quickly, but that's why we use special cleaning solutions to keep the mold away. It requires a bit of work, but this is the specific of the area and it must be done, as mold is dangerous. The place could be easily get five stars with proper care and maintenance.

Lovely place with a very good pool and gardens. The garden are very good and well maintained with plenty of birds visiting them every day. The owners are great people to help you with any intersts you may have or trips you want to take. We would go again but would have the bungalows rahter than the cabins as the walls are very thin
