We had a great time in Paris staying at Tristan's apartment. It is a great location and the apartment is exactly what we needed. There are nice restaurants and bars closeby. Tristan was a great host and really helpful. I would highly recommend it, thanks Tristan!
Tristan's place in the fifth is in a fabulous location, especially if you have never been to Paris before. If you have a sense of adventure, you will really like this place. It evokes the Paris of the writer, artist and composer. It is in the center of old Paris, within a walk from so many of the icons. Place Contrescarpe and Rue Mouffetard are nearby with their countless cafes and restaurants. L’Estrapade and L’Écurie are two that we enjoyed. Our favorite place for a coffee or a drink is nearby Le Petit Cardinal.
We were there for the month of March. The apartment itself has a lot of personality. It reminds me of my hippy days, with lots of color, lots of cushions, a couch and a covered army cot in the living room and a mattress on the floor in a dark, walk-through bedroom. The front windows have an extra pane for sound insulation. There are lots of books about Paris and a few art books. The bathroom is very nice with the traditionally French separate toilet room. The kitchen is tiny and has room for only one person, which was a small problem for us because we usually cook and clean up together. The microwave is versatile; you can broil or make toast in it, but there is no oven.
We were there when there was construction work in both the building adjacent to ours and on the sidewalk under the front window. So the main problem for us was noise and dust. We think the work in the street is ending, but it might be a good idea to ask Tristan how the renovation work next door is going. They work only during business hours so most of time, you would probably be out while they are making noise. Being there for a month we did not feel compelled to get out every morning at 9:00 hence the noise may have been more of a problem for us than for most folks who may stay a week.
One of the things we most enjoy about travel is meeting people. Tristan was out of town when we arrived so his friend Pascal greeted us and took care of us and anything that came up. He is a charming, interesting young man as is Tristan who returned to Paris during the last week of our stay. We had drinks with both of them and a studio visit with Bruno, an artist friend of Pascal's.
We recommend the apartment especially for a young single or couple. Some folks in our age group (late sixties & upwards) might find getting in and out of the floor level bed a bit cumbersome. It depends on how good your knees are and how much you enjoy rolling over your partner to get out! If you don't want to climb any stairs, be aware that the apartment is two floors up.
Many times we visited Paris but with Tristan's apartment we had our best parisian experience! What a wonderful flat! It has its absolutely special atmosphere of bohemian Paris. Location is perfect - in the heart of Latin quartiere, between the Pantheon and Rue Mouffetard where Ernest Hemingway lived, 10 mins walking to Notre Damme de Paris and Ile Saint Louis. So you have the best of the city just around you! The apartment itself gives you not only the way to relax after hours of exploring the beauty of Paris but olso an opportunity of feeling parisian life inside. It has everything for comfortable stay (kitchen, spacious living room, wi-fi, art-house designed bedroom, bathroom with little bathtub, central heating, etc.) But first of all Tristan's apartment has the magic to make you think and feel and live like Parisians do! Thanks a lot, Tristan, for your hospitality and we really hope to return!
What a welcome - wine, cheese & bread waiting for us after a long day of traveling. It was much appreciated. The apartment was much smaller than the photos depict which was a bit of a surprise. The location is fantastic, three minutes from the metro line, bus stops outside the door and walking distance to many sites. We loved being able to pop back home with ease. Living in the thick of things is the way to go when visiting Paris.
Great experience! We stayed at Tristan's place for 8+ nights during Nov-Dec, 2014. Key highlights:
Location: Great location in a safe neighborhood. Subway/local train is a few steps away. Great bakeries and grocery just outside of his building. Also, a short walking distance from some restaurants around the Pantheon area. The apartment is walking distance from key spots in Paris…we opted for the subway often (it was cold!) and had no issues.
Facilities: Tristan is a great host. He received us and gave us a quick tour, answered all our questions.
-The apartment a separate area for you to sleep and a separate sitting/living area...more than sufficient. Ventilation and lighting were great.
-Place is clean and has all the basics to get you going. Kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and cleaning supplies you need. Being vegetarians, we cooked a fair amount at home and found everything we needed.
-Toilet and bathroom are clean. Shower/ water pressure is decent. It also had a hair dryer that my wife appreciated.
-Bed was comfortable. It was a little on the softer side for us as we prefer firm mattresses, but by no means an issue.
-The place has all the tech gadgets you need. Wifi was fine, TV has more than enough international channels if you need it. Tristan has a nice sound system setup in case you want to listen to some music.
- There is a mini washer/ dryer we found very helpful to do small loads if you’re staying there for more than a week like us.
-Tristan has a local land-line phone available which was a great added bonus –we used to make restaurant & taxi reservation
-Tristan put us in touch with an English speaking taxi company which was helpful for us to catch our returning flight.
Great stay at Tristan's place. Apartment was just as described; comfortable for two and provided convenient access to the Metro (just across the street). Notre Dame, the Batobus stop and the Seine river are a ten minute walk down the hill, and Rue Mouffetard is a five minute walk up the hill with many bars and restaurants. Note that the shower is tricky to get into because of the three foot side wall; use the step stool under the sink. Also, the bed is comfortable but is basically a mattress right on the floor, so getting up may be a challenge for some. Lastly, the apartment is on the third floor. I think I saw an elevator, but we just took the stairs without issue. We were about an hour and a half later than expected arriving due to delays at the airport, but Tristan waited and met us at the apartment and left us a bottle of wine and two delicious chocolate croissants. Overall, we had no issues and were pleased with our stay. I would recommend this apartment and would stay again. Thank you Tristan.
