Our stay at Vuda was fantastic and would definitely stay here again. Very welcoming and relaxing!
We stayed at Trish's "villa" for three nights during our honeymoon. We had a good time and Trish was accommodating and friendly. The "villa" was truly beach front and the sunsets were very nice. However, we would have appreciated a heads up on the following points, which we don't think were made clear in the listing:
1. The "villa" is a single room studio, not a one bedroom apartment. The bathroom has walls but no ceiling. There is a kitchenette corner with two hot plates (no stove). It is ok to make breakfast, but if you are a reasonably good cook/care about food you will not want to cook meals here.
2. The "villa" is not its own property; it is on Trish and Ross' property. All the outdoor spaces depicted in the photos are shared with Trish and Ross, who (at least during our stay) are home most of the time.
3. The only resort within walking distance is First Landing. Also, the walk "along the beach" to First Landing basically requires you to walk through water.
4. The Vuda marina is not a happening place. It has one general store, one cafe, and one restaurant. There is no supermarket within walking distance. The restaurant is pretty good and reasonably priced. In addition, you can't walk to the Vuda marina on the beach (it is fenced off); you have to walk there on a back road.
5. The villa was not very clean when we got there. (They were having some issue with cleaning staff so this may have been a one time problem.)
It was lovely to have Simon and Hanna stay for three days as part of their honeymoon and we have taken on board some of the information they felt was missing from our listing to reflect the situation we have here.
Expectations and facilities can vary from country to country, so what might be "normal" in the USA can be different to "normal" in Fiji. We don't have large flashy buildings and massive night life preferring to provide a more "natural" island life style rather than "constructed beauty"
In a humid climate like Fiji, three quarter internal walls are common in bathrooms and bedrooms so natural air circulation handles humidity from shower and provides a cooler airflow in the bedroom. The main bed is separated in this way so it is private and not in the living area. This is not a studio apartment.
We find our guests prepare simple meals if not dining out locally, preferring to buy local produce from the local markets which is easily accommodated with our facilities. Many do not wish to cook, just dine at First Landing Resort,Vuda Marina and Anchorage Resort. The Kitchen facilities reflect this.
We have a large property. The villa is absolute beachfront so private and separate from our holiday home by lovely tropical gardens. We are located at the rear of the property. We holiday here approximately two months a year.
We are sorry if you felt you were not on your own. We try to accommodate our guests requirements in terms interaction.
We allowed your early morning arrival off your Lax flight at 5.55am so you could commence your holiday, at no extra charge.
First Landing is a five minute stroll along the beach, a popular resort for meals with a bar, where you can relax outside on the beach, in tropical gardens, or around the pool.
However with some high tides there is a small section where you may need to paddle, otherwise walk up on the grass.
First Landing has three traditional evening Fijian shows weekly.
Vuda Marina is next to First Landing Resort and also popular with guests. A 5-10 min walk along the beach, there is a small area you need to paddle or otherwise a 5-10 minute walk down our country road past cane fields and grazing animals. The General Store at Vuda Marina supplies all the food you may need. It is well utilized by yachties, locals, myself and our guests.
Our apologies if the property was not as clean as you would have liked.I only wish you had brought that to my attention so it could have been rectified.
Our guests love the simple, easy, quiet lifestyle and idyllic location we offer. Our location is perfect for those who want an island feel, a comfortable villa on the beach with "island" feel and yet close to resorts, marina, Lautoka, Nadi, all this at a fraction of local resort and hotel costs.
Trish's place was a lifesaver! A piece of heaven for us and our family at short notice. The kids loved the grassy lawn and learned how to climb palm trees, we made turtle sandcastles on the white sandy beach. Beautiful position and outlook on to the water. Resort and marina facilities an easy walk up the beach. Thanks so much!
A great spot, very well maintained beautiful spot, easy walk to the facilities in the first landing resort and restaurants at the marina.
Very helpful caretakers Jonah and Maria.
Walk out to the reef for good snorkeling.
Good swimming when the tide is in,nice and secluded at the end of the small beach.
Lots of trips to the islands leaving from the resort .
Great for self catering .
Highly recommended !
We stayed at the villa for three nights and had a great time. Villa is as pictured, smack beach front, tidy with everything you need. Patricia very friendly and welcoming. Close to the marina and a resort, a great place to unwind and relax. Would stay again when next in Fiji. 10/10.
We really enjoyed our stay at Trish's. The house looks west, out over the water between several coconut palms. We made good use of the hammocks! We especially liked being able to walk down the beach a short distance to First Landing, a great little resort that welcomed us for any meals we didn't want to prepare at home. Just beyond that is a little marina that had live entertainment and a nice bar out by the water. Our house had a very nice and spacious bathroom with an excellent shower. There was plenty of hot water for three showers in a row. Trish was generous with advice and information, including the inside scoop on boat trips out to various islands. We loved our time in Fiji and will definitely be back! Our highest recommendation.
