The Auvergnat Barn is in the grounds of Lagarde which is situated down a quiet country lane near to the picturesque village of Junhac and about 4 kms from the medieval hill town of Montsalvy. The gîtes, known as Le coin Perdu and La belle Chataigne enjoy quiet seclusion and privacy and are not overlooked by any other buildings. The immediate surroundings are fields and woods where local farmers graze their cattle.
Alongside the Barn is an 11 m swimming pool shared by both gîtes and the owner. There is a choice of terraces on which to read and doze. From the poolside the views are of the idyllic countryside surrounding Lagarde. Beside the swimming pool is a large room equipped for table tennis and other games and children's swings with play area.
If you are a large family or group of friends, or simply want more space around you, then the answer is to reserve both Gîtes. A large table under one of the pergolas will easily accommodate everyone for a meal. Between the two gîtes is along a gravel path connecting the two entrances.
The proprietors will personally clean the gîte(s) for your arrival and you can expect to be greeted on arrival with fresh bread and wine.
The rates include electricity, heating, gas, bed-linen, hand and bath towels. A refundable deposit of 150 euros on arrival is requested and returned on departure.

There is a steep set of stairs leading to gite 2 (6) it is possible to drive quite close to Gite 1 (4) and the layout is such that it is easily navigable. We are also aware that people with mobility issues have holidayed here in the past. If you would like to stay at Lagarde we will endeavor to make your stay comfortable. If you would like to visit our website you will find in the Gallery pictures of the interior of the gites which may aid your decision as to suitability.
An 11x5.5m swimming pool is to be found adjacent to the gites with parasols and sun loungers. There is also games room with table tennis and darts. The views are beautiful all around. The area is known as the chataigneraie which comes from the sweet chestnut trees which were grown in the middle ages to form a staple diet in that time and there are many examples of its uses in the local surroundings. Birds including various tits and finches jays, woodpeckers, (green and spotted) nuthatches and buzzards circling on the thermals are all common visitors here. If you are quiet you can sometimes see the deer which live in the woods and if you are really lucky a wild boar. Or perhaps as you doze in the sun you may spy the beautiful red squirrels with their almost jet black tails helping themselves to the last of your barbecue tit bits.
Guests have their own driveway and parking area. Their own privite terrace and have total privacyfrom the guests in the adjacent Gite.
the gite overlooks an 11.5 metre x 5 metre swimming pool which in turn looks out over the valley. Below there is a games room with ping pong table and various other games for you to enjoy. The pool and the games room are shared with our other guests. There are a set of swings and slide for our younger guests to enjoy also.
Denise And I live in the adjacent Farmhouse which is 0n the property. We always like to be here to welcome our guests and we are happy to make restaurant reservations etc for our guests if asked. We hope that we are always approachable if people need our help or even just for a chat .
The Surrounding Area
The countryside surrounding Lagarde is a delightful mix of undulating fields and forest with granite farm buildings dotting the landscape. The area is known as La Châtaigneraie (the Chestnut Grove) which takes its name from the numerous sweet chestnut trees originally imported in the Middle Ages to provide a staple food source. Over the centuries, the chestnut tree has contributed significantly to the support of rural life and even today is still celebrated at local fairs and festivals. Dense ancient forests of chestnut, oak, beech, pine, and precipitous river gorges suddenly give way to soft, rolling pastures to form some of the most beautiful scenery in France. Deer and boar occasionally roam the surrounding fields and woods and you may catch a sighting of them over your morning croissant. Red squirrels may seek left-overs from your barbecued lunch whilst you doze.
The weather during the summer months is generally sunny with temperatures reaching the mid 30’s in July. In August the thermometer may even reach 40ºC. Periods of really hot weather are often punctuated by thunderstorms, sometimes with spectacular lightning displays and torrential rain. But these storms don’t last for long and the days which follow are again calm and sunny. Although the temperatures can be high the atmosphere is rarely humid.
A car is a must here, although there is good local transport in the towns. You can easily rent a vehicle from Rodez if you wish to Fly Drive. Reaching us from the airport is a beautiful gentle climb for an hour up to 750m through wooded hills and the valley of the Lot River arriving on the plateau to rolling countryside and fields of lush green meadows with the famous Salers breed of Beef cattle munching contentedly on the grass.
Wild deer, birds of prey, and Red squirrels are but just a few of the types of wildlife you can spot from the terrace of the gites.
Also We have a little shop at the that sells ice creams and home made arts and crafts for our guests.
