This was my first airbnb experience so maybe I did not choose wisely/recognize the red flags, but I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake. The night before we were to arrive I received an email that Youssef's grandmother was sick and we would deal with a "friend". This already set us ill at ease as we were to meet "him" in the big square and call when we arrived. Of course he did not answer the phone, and so we called Youssef who just told us to wait. We waited over 40 minutes wondering if anyone would show, when a nice young guy came and said he was a friend of the friend and to come with him. The "hotel" or riad was near by, and even upon entering it was clear we were not welcome. We were obviously the only guests and no one would even look at us. The "host"--the friend of the friend-- was very nervous and tried to make us comfortable though the room was very dirty, the bed had no sheets or pillowcases, there was no private toilet (all as advertised) and the atmosphere was seemingly hostile to tourists. The "host" and his friend had never heard of Youssef and even said it must be a mistake. We had arrived very late and exhausted so we decided to stick it out for the night as we had already paid and the odds of getting something at that hour seemed slim. The others in the hotel stayed up drinking and listening to music then later yelling/arguing and breaking glass/slamming doors until 5 in the morning. While never feeling in danger, we never felt comfortable and left as early as possible the next day, though we had paid for 2 nights. The next day we were able to find a very comfortable clean room in a wonderful hotel for less than we had paid to airbnb per night, also quite close to the big square. While this may not be everyone's experience with Youssef (according to the other feedback given, which had swayed me to rent from him), and I hope his grandmother is okay if that was the case, I want my story to provide a cautionary tale. Most other listings have a concrete address and most profiles provide more info about the person/place. The pictures did not match the room on any level and the only accurate info was the location being near the big square.
