Petite one-bedroom house, set in medieval Birgu, in the heart of its 'Collacchio' - the Knights' neighborhood, renovated in 2009.
Located in one of the most idyllic pedestrian streets of this medieval and historic town, this holiday home offers the blissful respite of village life, while being only a few metres away from a number of wine bars, restaurants, a yacht marina and even a casino. A bus terminus and taxi boat to Valletta are also a 10-minute walk away.
The understated interior was designed and finished by the owner-architect - with particular detailing in the kitchen and bathroom areas - together with an interesting mix of retro and vintage furnishings. Accommodation includes sitting area, kitchen and bathroom on ground floor; and bedroom on first floor. The bedroom and living room are fully air-conditioned, while the bathroom is equipped with underfloor heating. Malta can get quite chilly in the winter months!
We can arrange airport pick-up, a small breakfast shopping or perhaps even some special surprise for your and your partner...the owner's parents live across road and they are very helpful!
The location of the flat is very nice, a quiet street in the old town Birgu. I was very glad to have chosen to stay in that area, it gives a true flavour of what Malta is, it is genuine and very enjoyable.
Valletta is quite close as you can be with the ferry in less than half hour during the day, but you are glad when you come back to Birgu and enjoy the atmosphere of its old street.
Chris's flat is very well situated, calm and enjoyable for one person or a couple, if you need to relax, or work, or read.
There are all modern facilities in the flat and Chris's parents, who live just across the street, are very helpful.
Just one tip: the front door opens with an electronic card, the first time make sure to know of it works and how you open the door, then you get used to it :-)
Vittoriosa Vintage apartment is really beautiful. Little town of Birgu where the apartment is located is incredible and very romantic. it has lots of great historic sites and few very good museums and restaurants. Owners gave me very good tips and they were very helpful. Apartment is cosy and clean so I highly recommend it.
While gathering our daily impressions from Malta, we were absolutly sure, that we`ve made a great choice about where to live :)
Vittoriosa Vintage - is just amazing place to feel the true spirit of "medieval" atmosphere. Placed in Birgu (just type it in (website hidden) and see pictures :)), it is separated from annoying typical "tourists paths". Those, who want to not only lie in the sun, but plunge deeper into Maltese history and culture, will appreciate this appartment for sure.
Moreover, Vittoriosa Vintage offers all the modern facilities for comfort living: kitchen stuff, speedy wi-fi, air-conditioner/heater, allday warm water etc. All the interior made with great taste and with attention to small details.
So, thank you Chris & Lily for your contribution to our great vacation and your hospitality :) Also, thanks to your parents!
Hope to see you again!
I would have no hesitation in recommending this chic (but spacious for a one bedroom) apartment. I have just spent two weeks there writing and it was perfect in every respect. Everything worked (wifi, air conditioning, TV etc). Upstairs is a very sweet and sunny bedroom with a v. comfortable bed with proper cotton sheets. I moved the little desk up from downstairs and also sat on the micro balcony in the sun. Downstairs the sitting room has no windows. Some light comes in from the back yard and over the door but if you want to really brighten it up you have to open front double doors which is quite usual in Malta. Birgu is like living in a village even though you are in the middle of the Grand Harbour. There's a 12 person ferry over to Valletta every half hour for €1.50 if you want the high life and swanky shopping but there are good little shops, cafes and restaurants very nearby and also the new Marina. This is not the place to be if you want to seriously party, though. At night - although there are restaurants in the converted docks - it is quiet. There's swimming near by if you want it. The area is older than Valletta so lots of medieval architecture and narrow alleyways. It is extremely well maintained. No rubbish on the streets, for instance, and all the buildings picture perfect with lots of potted plants and flowers everywhere. Anyway, adorable flat and although I didn't need to bother them Chris's Mum and Dad live opposite if you have any problems. Nice to be able to give a good review of somewhere without a single 'but....'
We stayed in that lovely apartment in Birgu last week of September. Everything went well. Good furniture, well equipped kitchen, quiet and charming place to saty. Chris parents are extremely helpfull and nice. We really enjoy our week in Vittoriosa Vintage. Highly recomend place to stay in Malta, near La Valletta. And Birgu is really nice quiet town.
Staying at Chris' Vittoriosa apartment was a great experience, and both of his parents indeed are most charming and very helpful. The apartment is a very nice place and fully met our expectations.
I can highly recommend this location to everyone who is looking for a more unique and relaxing holiday experience. Birgu, being the old medieval capital, feels like walking a museum with every step. It is far away from the busy mass tourism centers with their ugly waterfronts, but still just opposite to Valletta with its central bus hub which will swiftly get you to any place on the island. I would like to especially point out the water taxi for getting from Birgu to Valletta, a fast and fun way to cross the harbour, and a real alternative to the bus route.
Great place to spend some days in malta! Perfect location to visit the whole island! Really autentic place, confortable bed! Very recommended!
I love Birgu/Vittprriossa .. So much quieter than the tourist areas of Sliema / Paceville etc. Chris's little house is great. In the description it mentions there is air conditioning in the bedroom upstairs and in the living room. I thought that there would be 2 separate air-con units, but it is just one only and it wasn't working effectively. To Chris's credit he did try to get it sorted but it was the height of summer and hard to get a service person. So in very hot weather I ended up having some air-con for the 10 day period I was there. I would suggest a full size fridge in the kitchen rather than small bar fridge would be better. Also TV is advertised in the description, but this is an old Grundig used for playing DVD's only. I wasn't there to watch TV , but occasionally it's nice to see what's happening in the outside world. The shower was quite small, so much so that if u were washing your hair u could turn off the water when u didn't mean to. The biggest plus with Chris's house is its unique location. Overall I had a great time and hope I haven't been too critical, but I feel I should have the right to make comments and suggestions. I do hope to come back and maybe check out the Valetta pad next time. Thanks again Chris & family.
You were just unlucky, Craig - the AC drain needed a cleaning and this is why it didn't work...you came in the busiest week of the year and the AC servicemen were too busy...I can assure you that the AC is a very big capacity unit which cools both the mezzanine bedroom and the living room - we lived there ourselves in the middle of summer and it was perfectly cool!
It's a holiday flat, with grocery stores 2-minutes-walk away, and we are very surprised that the under-top fridge was not enough for one person!!
The TV is a Vintage 80s unit - one of the first colour TVs ever made ...and the WIFI fast enough that you can watch the news on your phone/tablet!
The shower is a standard 80x80cm shower tray... (perhaps you should get a smaller fridge :) ...)
The apartment is clean and with a very good location in the ancient and very beautiful area. Highly reccomended!
