The New York Times offered a full section on traveling to awesome Vieques in its November, 2013 issue.
Travel and Leisure Magazine (Feb. 2013) ranked Vieques along with amazing islands around the world such as Capri, Bora Bora, Santorini, Tahiti, Kauai among others. No need for you to travel far, just a short flight from major cities in the USA you can enjoy the magical beauty of Vieques.
Vieques has been voted 2012's Top Island in the Caribbean -- besting Bermuda, Bahamas, BVI and St. John. This is the second time our island has been voted by readers of Travel & Leisure Magazine as the top destination in its category.
This is a lovely spacious home overlooking the ocean in Bravos De Boston on the north shore of Vieques. It has magnificent Atlantic ocean views including the islands of Culebra and mainland Puerto Rico, with constant trade winds almost always in the 80's year round. Stunning sunrise and sunsets can be viewed while relaxing on the deck. Easy walk to several cozy beaches. The best surfing on the island is across the street from the house as well as great snorkeling.
The house is located in the safest and most sought after neighborhood on the island and a 5 minute walk to Isabel Segunda with shops, groceries, bank, restaurants, bakeries, the ferry et al. Only about 15 minute ride from the airport, Esperanza, the Bioluminescent Bay and the many Caribbean beaches. Over all, Vieques has over 50 beaches (Atlantic and Caribbean).
The upstairs Guesthouse has 2 bedrooms both with bathroom on suite, a large living area, full kitchen, dining room and deck. It is fully furnished and equipped including beach chairs, towels, coolers, etc.
Satellite TV is included as well as high speed wireless internet. There is also an outside shower which is ideal when returning from the beach.
Some of what we offer/provide for our valued guests:
1) complimentary pick up and return at airport/ferry upon arrival and departure
2) all check out cleaning, thus guests are not required to do anything at check out
3) all bath and beach towels, chairs, cooler, etc
4) caretaker on call and nearby
5) concierge service before and during your stay
6) adult and kid friendly ie internet, satellite TV, games and beach toys
Five of us spent five nights at Ann's place and had a wonderful time. The apartment is spacious (two bathrooms is definitely a plus) and has a balcony with a view of the ocean that is perfect for drinking your morning coffee on. It is within easy walking distance of downtown Isabel Segunda and comes equipped with beach things (towels, chairs, coolers), which was incredibly convenient. The caretaker, Rene, was very helpful in picking us up at the ferry at the beginning of our stay and dropping us at the airport at the end.
Had a wonderful time! The house was clean and well-stocked (even plenty of books for beach reading). Rene, the caretaker, was really nice and helpful. We rented scooters and were able to get around the island and explore easily. The house is an easy walk to the restaurants, ferry, shops in town. There's an outdoor shower and beautiful view from the patio. Definitely recommend!
Really nice place to stay, spacy and beautiful view, guess what, there is even a BBQ at backyard, great living room and kitchen with everything provided, just relax and enjoy!
We had a wonderful time at Ann's guesthouse. The house was very clean when we arrived. Bedrooms are large and comfortable and the balcony is very big with beautiful views right over the ocean. We really enjoyed cooking in the awesome kitchen which had all appliances we needed. Air conditioning in all rooms and fans kept us very comfortable : )Rene, the caretaker greeted us when we arrived and answered all questions we had. We would definitely stay there again and I highly recommend this place to everyone!
First, we met Rene at the ferry. Not only did he give us a ride to the rental car place, but then led us back to the house so we would not get lost. (website hidden)maps works just fine here for roads and location, address finding is another matter. This house, you will find, is EASILY located from the ferry; up only a few roads. The house is very secure, not that it mattered that much to me. In one week, going from San Juan, migrating over to Vieques, not once did I witness one crime in progress or past, nor one arrest in action- a virtual impossibility in New Orleans. The house itself is clean and well kept, the ACs work excellently, and from the balcony you can see and hear the surf and feel the breeze. The house comes will all sorts of supplies for lounging and for the beach and is very convenient to Isabel Segunda II for your shopping needs. Best of all, besides separate bathrooms, (a very nice thing!) the owners and caretaker were EXTREMELY clear and easy to communicate with. The floor plan is wide open and should you leave the drapes open, a wall of windows (two of them windowed doors) will let an awesome view of the sea in, one that is private from any of the houses around!!) The house is exceedingly clean. No bugs of any kind. From the house, we visited countless beaches by rented jeep, even ended up going up and down mountains and through wilderness! Take it slow. there is no reason to be a speedjerk here. The wild paso fino horses are everywhere and they will walk as they please, as are mongoose, egrets, hummingbirds, roosters, friendly cats and dogs. The house and most of the island are pretty chill at night. This is relaxation at its best! We visited countless beaches and not a single one was packed (even on a national holiday!) Try your Spanish. it is ok if you are not very good. People appreciate your effort. It shows you being a good guest. In all be game for this experience and try to absorb what the island has to offer. Try Bili for that matter. You won't regret it. For the location, the fabulous Rene, the excellent amenities and condition and upkeep level of the house, there is nowhere I'd rather stay on Vieques. Nowhere. This was everything I had hoped for. Rene even drove us to return the car and then to the ferry when it was time to go. No matter how I tried he would not even accept a tip. On top of that, he was an absolute encyclopedia regarding the island. Trust me, this is the place you want to stay on Vieques. Additional--there IS vegetarian food on this island. Nice, eh? I'll be thinking about the clear green waters of Playa La Chiva until I can return & staying here is the only option for me!
My parents, cousin and I had a wonderful stay at the Bravo guesthouse. We chose to stay in the Upper guesthouse based on airbnb reviews, and we were not disappointed! The apartment is spacious, airy, and overlooks the Atlantic. Spectacular! Some of my family is vegetarian so having a fully functioning kitchen was really helpful.
Rene, the on site manager is very helpful. He picked us up from the airport and helped us with our grocery run before we rented our own car.
The small beach close to the guesthouse is pretty rocky. All the good beaches are about a 20 minute drive away.
The view is breathtaking. The place is spacious and very comfortable. Ann is attentive and responds quickly to any questions. Rene the property manager is a gem, helpful and cordial . My wife and family including myself didn't want to leave. Highly recommend it!
Bravos Sun and Sea - AMAZING! We stayed at 3 different AirBnB's during our trip to Puerto Rico, and not only was Vieques the highlight, but so was this house! Beautifully furnished inside - two bedrooms each with their own en suite bathroom. Great living room, dining room, kitchen space, but we spent 99% of our time on the balcony, from which you have views of Puerto Rico, Culebra and an iguana or two!
The house is close to Isabella II (where the ferry terminal is). It's about a five minute walk. Rene the caretaker picked us up from the ferry, even though the ferry was an hour late, which was cool. There is a grocery store in town, a little more than five minutes away, but we only went there once. There is a small beach close by, where we watched some pelicans catch fish.
However, the highlight of Vieques is Esparanza and it's surrounds. The beaches (Red Beach and Media Luna are our favourites) are the most spectacular I've ever seen. We did some snorkeling, which was cool too. Take the biobay kayak tour (I'd recommend Travesias Isleñas Yaureibo, run by locals) - it really is incredible. End the day in the laid back bar scene. Unfortunately, Esperanza is on the other side of the island from Bravo beach, so you have to hire an SUV (you need one to get to the best beaches). We got one from Maritza's Car Rental ($70/day for a 2 door Jeep) - they picked us up from the Beach house and dropped us off at the ferry too, at no charge.
In conclusion, the house is perfect for 4 people, beautiful inside, great views of the ocean to the north, but a car is definitely a must if you want to maximize your Vieques experience. I could easily spend a week on this island (I much prefer it to Puerto Rico itself). Really, if your looking for a Caribbean getaway, consider Bravos Sun and Sea.
