About this listing
We're a haven for those seeking quiet personal growth and deepening connections to themselves and nature. This area is popular for its many yoga studios, walking trails, beaches, and celebrating a healthy & conscious lifestyle.
Please contact me before booking. Also note that I offer a second room under the name "Quiet room: yogi or meditator" which may be available if this one isn't.
A quiet room for yogis, yoginis, ashtangis, meditators, retreat-goers, spa-goers, the health-conscious, or others. Located in a spacious 5-bedroom house with nearby walking trails, shops, and a short drive to Pacific Ocean beaches. Includes kitchen privileges.
Yoga and Meditation
There are 2 yoga studios within walking distance and many more within a 15-minute drive. Nearest is the world-famous (to many Ashtangi) Ashtanga Yoga Center directed by Tim Miller and a newer studio called Yoga Six. Five minutes drive (2 miles) from the (Deepak) Chopra Center for Wellbeing at the La Costa Resort and Spa. Within 15 minutes drive to coastal Encinitas there are at least 10 yoga studios, from Iyengar, Jois and Bikram to Anusara and Anahata. There is also the SRF Meditation Gardens, temple, and ashram.
The room features a pillowtop queen size bed. There is a large window which you can open for fresh air or you can lower the shade and close the curtains for privacy. You can enjoy snuggling in a thick down comforter if you like. We can bring in a space heater if you like it warmer than most, and can also bring in a HEPA air filter or you can open the large window.
The bathroom is across the hall and shared. The shower is all yours.
The room has many books which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay.
Also, the beaches nearby are popular with swimmers, walkers, surfers, and people who simply enjoy walking by the ocean. Don't miss Quail Botanical Gardens (now called San Diego Botanical Gardens) about 9 minutes away in nearby Encinitas.
There is a Jr. Olympic pool with adjacent hot tub you can enjoy year-around - both are always heated with solar assistance. We also have a hot tub in our back yard you're welcome to soak in. It's in a private location so you can enjoy it au naturel if you like. We simply ask that you shower before tubbing and dry off before coming back into the house.
The closest airport is Carlsbad, which has flights to/from LAX. San Diego airport (SAN) is the most popular nearby airport. There are many shuttles available.
For those using public transit, a 16-minute walk to a city bus (#309) which goes directly to the Encinitas train station, with a commuter train (Coaster) that will take you to downtown San Diego to connect you with the Amtrak or the airport. Contact me if you want some tips on making train connections from the SAN (San Diego) or CLD (Carlsbad Palomar) airport. Southern California is not known for public transit, yet it can be done. With a little planning, it can be done well.
In this area are many attractions such as the nearby La Costa Spa, Pacific Beaches, Safari Park (Escondido), and the San Diego Zoo (also with fantastic botanical specimens), Sea World, and many museums in Balboa Park.
There is plenty of shopping nearby, from the most basic to high-end. Many can be walked to, and quite a few are a within 10 minute drive. This includes organic groceries, coffee & tea shops, specialty shops, a book store, and big-box retailers.
We have been happy to host visitors from all over the world (Austria, Argentina, China, Russia, ...) and domestically (Hawaii, Arizona, Boston, SF, ...). Before we starting offering our home through AirBnb, many who have enjoyed the room have been referrals from friends of friends. Many have been attending yoga teacher workshops such as the ones at Ashtanga Yoga Center, Soul of Yoga, YogaSix, IyengarNorthCounty, and AnahataHeartYoga.
You may want to enjoy using the blender to make smoothies or the Omega Juicer which makes great fresh and healthy juice from carrots, celery, kale, etc. and cleans easily. For you bakers, there are 4 ovens, (convection, traditional gas, and microwave), a gas range, and long counters.
Within 10 minutes drive are a wide variety of restaurants, from vegan and vegetarian to carnivorous, from local diners and good Mexican, Thai and Indian to the usual corporate chains.
The shared areas include a large kitchen, yard, living room, family room, hot tub, and sitting room. Basically, you can enjoy all of the downstairs which is not otherwise occupied.
Interaction with guests
Interaction with guests can vary as they like. Some visitors have spent most of their stay out and about, enjoying the many local events and attractions. For these, I'm happy to offer suggestions and make sure they have a safe, comfortable, quiet place to return to.
Other visitors have arranged shared adventures, exploring mutually-desirable activities or having conversations.
Yet others have found the space comfortable enough for their own private retreat.
For most visitors, it seems to be a blend of these.
No smoking, drugs, or pets. Simple courtesy works. As in your own home, please clean up after yourself.
Enjoy the kitchen (4 ovens, gas range). You may use the full washer/dryer.
We don't have cable or satellite TV, although there is wireless Internet. Many people watch shows on their own notebooks or tablets.
To help keep the hot tub clean, please shower before using it. It's in a private area so may be enjoyed with or without a swimsuit, as you prefer. Please dry off before walking on the carpet.
The room has a dresser and several cabinets. There is no closet, although there is a row of hooks if you have a few long items to hang up. There is also a desk, low table, chairs, and lamps. We'll provide fresh sheets and towels, and if you stay longer than a week, you're welcome to use the washer and dryer.
All overnight guests must be registered first with AirBnb in the original reservation. We prefer to manage all bookings through AirBnb for any length of stay.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.

Health-conscious and quiet, yet also active and outgoing. At home, I'm as likely to be reading a book as meditating. Outside and away, I like to dance (Zumba!), walk, and check everything out. In the summer, you'll likely find me riding the waves.
On most school nights, my quiet 12th-grade daughter will be here, often in her own room when we're not out and about enjoying the area. My older daughter has graduated college and started life on her own.
Besides being an AirBnb host, I've enjoyed staying in many AirBnb places. I've been able to travel around Europe and Asia as well as the states. I particularly like local food and culture (they're usually connected).
