Beautiful area
Guests love this home’s scenic location.
A spacious, ground floor, self contained unit attached to a converted Methodist chapel close to the village of Garrigill in the remote North Pennines. It has parking, a private entrance and enclosed yard catching the evening sun. There is a well equipped kitchen with tea/coffee. The bathroom has a bath/shower and the bedroom has a double bed with two single pullout beds, both can be used in the living space on request. This is a quiet retreat for lone travellers, couples, families or friends.
The space
A beautiful waterfall flows directly outside the chapel. Garrigill, just five minutes walk away, is a quiet village with a shop and art gallery. At present the pub is closed for renovation but there are occasional pub nights in the village hall as well as other events. We are happy to provide transport to and from Alston if you travelled by foot or by bike and local taxi numbers. Alston itself is a bustling town with plentiful attractions, events, eateries, pubs and independent shops (although some do close at the start of the week in Winter). Also, nearby Nenthead hosts an Arts and Visitor centre which has numerous events on throughout the year. Please note that phone signal in and around the village is limited although some providers do work in the chapel. We also have Wifi and analogue TV with a number of channels. We are happy to accommodate you and your family including furry friends. Please let us know when booking how many to expect and how you would like the beds to be arranged.

You have complete and sole use of the very spacious self-contained, ground floor apartment at the back of our converted Wesleyan Chapel.
Other things to note
The heating system is shared with the chapel and you will find the central heating on in the morning from 7am - 9am, lunchtime 12 -1pm and evenings from 4pm. Please let us know if you wish this to be changed.
We do provide an electric heater if you need supplementary heating but find that the annexe is well insulated and this shouldn't be needed.
Other instructions are provided in the chapel.

If you're keen to explore the area on foot then the quietly spectacular Ashgill Waterfall is just an hours walk away and Sarka-jo is also able to be your guide on walking and swim walks for an extra fee. A number of maps and leaflets are also provided in the annexe . Please see our guide which continues to be updated on Airbnb about local recommendations for restaurants, pubs and cafes nearby.
However, the beauty of Alston Moor is it's seclusion, peace and quiet. You will therefore find the chapel a very quiet place to stay making it ideal for a retreat for writers or musicians or just people who want to get away from it all.

My husband Moz and I love the outdoors and love to get away in our camper. We appreciate real ale and good live music and the odd cold dip in a lake. We moved to a converted chapel in Garrigill 6 years ago which is an ongoing outlet for Moz's creativity and design flair. We are currently listing a dog friendly, ground floor, self catering apartment which was once the old Sunday school and offer guided walks and swims in the local area.
