Merlewood Cottage nestles against a hillside in the Tarrant Valley, in the Cranbourne Chase area of natural beauty. The cottage is situated in a tiny village away from the road with only a handful of houses and a church. You really are away from it all, living in nature here. Buzzards are a frequent sight as are pheasants wandering across the lawn.

The space
You will have private use of the main part of the cottage featuring lounge, study and dining room on the ground floor, with winding staircase up to the two bedrooms with king size doubles and private bathroom on the first floor, while there is a third double bed downstairs in the study that we can make up on request.

Only the kitchen will be shared with us during your stay. We occupy an end bedroom in the extension that is accessible by a separate staircase from the kitchen and has its own bathroom facilities.

The cottage is very cosy with a wood burner in the lounge for cold nights. The place dates back to around the 1630s and is made up of two original cottages.

Where you’ll be

Tarrant Rushton, England, United Kingdom

Tarrant Rushton is a small village in North Dorset a few miles from Blandford Forum, noted for its Georgian architecture, but not far from Bournemouth, Poole and the Jurassic coast. The mid-12th century church St Mary's is just down the lane. This is a conservation area where you will feel like you are going into the past, rich in wildlife and natural beauty, a place you can really relax and be for a while with nature.

I'm a Londoner by origin but now live in Dorset with my lovely wife Johanna. I work for the RNLI in Poole and my wife for the NHS. We're both keen walkers so love living in a place where we can walk straight from the door into open countryside. We have 5 children between us, 4 girls and 1 boy, all grown up now. We think our cottage is a very special place and look forward to welcoming you as our guests in the hope that you enjoy it too, and to making your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
