  • Bob & Alice's were terrific hosts and they made us feel like at home during our stay. They have been happy to share their knowledge of the island with us and they provided us with everything we could possibly need. Location of the Ohana is perfect. There’s a lot of restaurant’s nearby or in Kona and it’s perfect starting point for the many activities you can do on the Big Island. Ohana itself was sunny, roomy and view from the terrace is astonishing. I hope we will be able to stay with Bob & Alice again in the future.

  • Thanks Bob, we really enjoyed our stay at your place and all the helpful tips and conversations that ensued. The studio was perfectly situated, as a central home base for all of our daily outings. Your place was great for our needs and served as a fantastic sanctuary to return back to at the end of a long day of adventures.

    Thanks again!

  • Bob and Alice are wonderful hosts. We really felt welcomed and appreciated their advise on places to see.

The Ohana feels very private and the location is great. Because of the elevation, you get a great view and it never gets too hot. Tons of tropical birds in the backyard. It is convenient to drive either north (resorts) or south-east (volcano) and explore the Big Island.

Expect to find everything you'd need, including guidebooks! Internet connection (wifi) was really fast.

    Thanks: Siya and Dimitre

  • Perfect if you are looking for a quiet private getaway to retreat to each day after exploring the many sights of this amazing island.
Bob and Alice are wonderful hosts who have found the perfect balance of being available to provide you with both information and gear to enjoy your stay while providing an extremely quiet and private environment to call your own space. The space was clean with basic amenities to prepare some meals. There are great shops and amazing dining right in the area not fancy but relaxed and awesome fresh food that has care put into it. The view was spectacular to gaze at from bed each morning and breakfast on the lanai was one of our highlights bonding with the many geckos and birds visible right there.
We definitely hope to return to this wonderful retreat if we are blessed to have another opportunity to visit the big island again.
We fully recommend these warm caring and gracious hosts to any couples looking for a quiet retreat.

  • The view is breathtaking and the ohana is clean and has all the kitchen utilities one would need to cock your own food. Alice and Bob is wonderful hosts and provides tons of tips and information about the nearby area. We will most defiantly stay all our nights at Alice and Bob next time we visit the big island.

  • My wife and thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Bob and Alice. The ohana is exactly as depicted: new, fresh, clean, and accommodating. The view is sweeping - from the long early-morning shadows cast by the coffee fields to the vibrant spectrum of Big Island sunsets. We loved our leisurely mornings sipping coffee on the lanai as the rising sun warmed our backs.
Bob and Alice are first-rate hosts who will provide whatever level of information and suggestions to make your stay a memorable one. We have trekked to Big Island for many years now as our daughter and family live in Capt Cook. We will definitely book this ohana again, not only for its comfort, but for the wonderful hosts - Bob and Alice.

  • Spending four weeks at the Private Ohana in Captain Cook was pure delight. The location is perfect for exploring the Island. It is within 15 minutes of Paleaku Botanical Peace Gardens and the ocean-lined national park, Honaunau Place of Refuge. The enchanting town of Kona is only about a 20 minute drive from the Ohana.

The Ohana is a new structure with beautiful furnishings, hardwood floors and tiled bath. The linens are first-class as are the towels and other amenities of the bath area.

The view from the Ohana is breathtaking with both panoramic ocean and mountain views. Sunsets are beautiful and as a photographer who took over 8,000 shots on this trip, three of my best were shot from the Ohana as a sunset bathed the ocean, mountain and clouds above the mountain with an autumn brown.

Bob and Alice, the owners, are gracious hosts who take a sincere interest in the comfort of their guests. They provide maps, books of the Island, and all other essentials that one might desire to have a great time on the Big Island. They have lived there for several years and are acquainted with all the nuances that make for a delightful time.

It is a comfortable place for two persons and I do not hesitate to highly recommend this Ohana in Captain Cook.

  • This property is conveniently located just 30 minutes south of Kailua-Kona and minutes away from all amenities - grocers, gas, coffee, restaurants, watersport rentals, et cetera. It is just off the main highway making it convenient for travel north or south.

Probably the best snorkeling in the state, Two-Step, is a short drive away, where you can see reef, fish, turtles, and dolphins. There are also a multitude of public beaches and parks within a 10-15 minute drive.

The room contains everything you could possibly need. Bob and Alice are the most welcoming hosts, offering everything you didn't think of! With endless knowledge about the state and all it has to offer, they were more than accommodating and really made our trip memorable.

The room is a nice size for two people. It has a private veranda with views overlooking the ocean and summit. Everything is new, clean(!), and for those seeking to reduce their carbon footprint... solar-heated water, recycle, efficient appliances and fixtures.

There is a heat plate, toaster, microwave, fridge, flatware, glasses, plates - additional blankets, lovely linens, seating area, cable television. It's great!

When arriving, if you're using GPS, the property is located slightly further down the hill than my Garmin device indicated (20-30 meters). There is a final reflector on the roadway just before you will need to turn left.

The property is truly beautiful with majestic birds from all over the world chatting at all hours of the day. The house is surrounded by orange, banana, avocado, and flowering trees. It is a tranquil place. I highly recommend the property and will, without question, return and stay with the Widmann's.

Thank you so very much for your incredible hospitality!

We are Bob and Alice. We have been wintering on the Island of Hawaii for many years and now retired, we decided to buy a house and move here full time. We made the move two years ago and are enjoying life on the island. We are located near beaches and snorkeling places. We are near to Kailua-Kona also. There are good restaurants near by, Annies is one of our favorites. We also really like Jackie Reyes, also quite near. If anyone likes parasailing, the local launcing spot is just above us so we watch them gliding by nearly every day. We have a good view of the ocean and along the coast looking south. We see the City of Refuge, Honaunau National Park and part of Kealakakua Bay. We'd be happy to help you to know what is going on around the island and where to find what. We look forward to meeting you. Aloha
