HUGE 5/6 Bedroom Loft Group Rental

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Lexington Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238, United States

This extremely rare 5000 sqft loft is the epitome of Brooklyn living. Huge open living/ dinning space with massive communal table, exposed brick and a wall of windows. Centrally located on a quiet street with easy access to the subway.

The Space

ABOUT THE SPACE ITSELF:

This (464m²/ 5000 sqft) comfortably decorated loft is located 20 minutes from Manhattan in my favorite Brooklyn Neighborhood, Clinton Hill / Fort Greene. The large (homemade) dining room table comfortably seats 25 and works great for dinner parties, brunches, 3 simultaneous scrabble games, all sorts of craft projects and my personal favorite (a sewing table). Lofts of this size are extremely rare find in New York. Converted from a former piano factory, the space still contains many of its original details and is the epitome of old school Brooklyn. From its original pane windows in the hallway to the squeaky hardwood floors, the character lies in its imperfections. The super spacious open plan kitchen and living room provides the perfect opportunity for larger traveling groups to spread out in a city of close quarters.

The 6 bedroom loft sleeps 6-12 people extremely comfortably. Five of the rooms have queen size beds, one room has a set of twin beds. PLEASE NOTE: In order to comply with the New York City regulations I only rent the out the loft in it’s entirety (all 6 rooms, which includes my personal bedroom) for stays longer than 30 days. Usually when I’m staying at my upstate barn in Hudson or traveling to Cape Town, SA. This option functions great (email hidden)/ work space for share economy, start up companies or any group living/working in New York for a bit. Airbnb corporate recently rented the loft for 8 weeks while they worked on a project in New York city. Having enough space to house their employees while also using the space to work was a huge convenience and economically savvy.
MONTHLY RATES: 30-90 days range from $12,000 - $20,000 depending on time of year, type of project and length of stay. Please email me to chat about how you’d like to use the loft and we can negotiate a price together.

Groups wanting to stay for less than 30 day are of course welcome. However in this scenario only 5 rooms of the loft are available. My personal bedroom is off limits. Sleeping 6-10 in the bedrooms and perhaps 2 people on the living room sofas beds if your have a larger group. Rates for short term rental of the 5 guest rooms collectively range from $550- $750 per night (depending on time of year) with a minimum stay of 4 nights.

This is my personal home which I live in and share with individuals travelers, groups and creative companies alike. I’m a collaboration junkie and a share economy super user. So I’m open to creative ways of sharing my space and I like to be involved with the people I share or rent my space to. It’s nice to know the loft is in good hands, being taken care of as I would, and with consideration of my neighbors.

EVENTS:
Because of the size of the loft, communal table and open kitchen this is an incredible space for certain types of events. However it does have limitations. Through experience I’ve found the best uses for the space are as follows: (Although I’m always open to creative requests so please write me if you’d like to discuss a particular way you’d like to use the loft.)

Yoga retreats
Film/ photo shoots
Creative Corporate day retreats/ training or focus groups (Skillshare has been one of our favorites, they host clever day retreats here)
Co-Working days
Craft parties
Classes and day trainings

Unfortunately due to noise constraints and in consideration of my neighbors the space is not suitable for weddings, DJ parties, Birthday parties, General parties/ large group gatherings, baby/wedding showers or dance classes.

AMENITIES:
- Washer and dryer in the loft
- Air Conditioning
- Film projector in the main lounge which connects to most laptops is used in lieu of TV
- Elevator

  • Wow - hands down one of the BEST places I've stayed. Seriously - this is quintessential Brooklyn. A jaw-dropping loft with excellent decor, an abundance of space and in a fantastic location in Brooklyn. The check-in was smooth as butter, and even though Shell wasn't around until the very last day - Cassandra (Shell's assistant) was super communicative and easy to work with. And when our other AirBnB host cancelled on us - Shell was cool enough to let us extend our stay at the very last minute.

If you are looking for an amazing group home, satellite office or just a bohemian loft space - this is it! I was also lucky enough to meet Shell just before our departure and she is super cool, down to earth girl. Would stay again in a heart beat!

  • Shell's Loft is truly a fantastic space!
I rented it out over a weekend for a photo shoot and accommodation for a team from London, UK and we were pleasantly surprised as it felt a lot bigger than it seems in the images.
The process of booking with Shell and her assistant, Cass, was great. As the date for the shoot was in constant flux they were patient with me and always got back to me promptly.
When we arrived at the apartment Cass was there waiting for us, as promised, and showed us around the apartment and how everything worked.
The space is fabulous and worked really well for what we needed, and the fact that it slept 5 of us was really useful for our budget! I want to go back just to hang out in the apartment instead of working!
We felt very at home and relaxed in the loft and had a great shoot.
Whether you are a group or an individual I would definitely recommend staying in Shell's loft!

  • A large group of us stayed in NYC for 6 days and needed a large enough space to house us and to accommodate a film shoot. Shell's loft was amazing! It was spacious, bright and clean! Within walking distance to local food and shops ... But also close to larger stores where we could grab last minute things was key! Shell was an awesome host ... Leaving us with lots of tips about the neighbourhood and places to eat. We were lucky enough to have Shell around for the first few days, although you would never have known she was in the same loft as she was courteous enough to let us do our thing. It was great to have a New York expert on hand to ask questions, get tips and just chill with. She is a really laid back host ... Definitely someone I would recommend. Shell was accommodating in all aspects of our trip ... From a last minute booking to directions when we were lost and late night check-in! Shell and her loft made our trip to NYC a breeze! If you are a large group and need a big open space this is the place for you! Great for yoga sessions, and filming!!

  • Shell's place was exactly what we were looking for - a great place for a big gathering and plenty of rooms to sleep in. A 5 minute walk to the G or C, and lots of cute restaurants in the area - Three Letters, Speedy Romeo (now Ray's coffee shop in Girls). We were in town for Seahawks Superbowl weekend, and had a brunch at the table, which seats 20 comfortably. The projector was a fantastic way to watch some pre-game hype.

If you are not familiar with Brooklyn, or NYC, you may be put off by the entrance from the street, but please don't worry. It's a safe neighborhood and as soon as you arrive in the loft you will be thrilled you booked it.

Cass let us in and showed us the ropes. The 4 stars is due to the 1 bath and a little lacking on the shower. But that would not stop us from booking again.

    Thanks Shell and Cass

  • Shell was super easy to work with. Her loft is beautiful and the area is great. Would love to visit again, exceptionally accommodating.

  • Our team of six people had a fantastic stay at Shell's loft. The space and location was ideal to get some serious work done and Shell, Cassandra, and staff went way above and beyond to make our entire stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Shell is an amazing host and I cannot reiterate enough just how much all her organization and responsiveness made everything so easy for us to buckle down and get serious work done without any logistical hangups. Her associate, Cassandra, is the most amazing and patient person--her attention to detail was astounding and it was so great to work with her throughout our entire stay. Thank you SO MUCH! :)

  • Clean, pleasant, comfortable beds, quite street, easy parking, plenty of space, walking distance to many restaurants, the sub way and the Brooklyn flea. Easily held a group of 8 with out feeling cramped at all.

    October 2013
  • Shell's loft is a truly stunning apartment in a great part of Brooklyn. It's ideal for large groups as the space is huge and has lots of extra beds. Overall it was incredible and we really enjoyed our stay, however there were a couple of negatives. The floors boards are very noisy and it's impossible to move around the apartment quietly as the walls are so thin - so if one member of your group is up, it's likely you will be too. Turkish bath towels do not function as regular bath towels, I would recommend you take your own towels with you if you stay here. Other than that Shell and her assistant are very accommodating and you'll love staying in her home.

  • Thank you Shell! Everything was perfect!

  • Cool loft, comfortable accommodations, nice vintage decor - great space for our group of 6 (and then some). Thanks for having us Shell!

About
I found this massive loft 2 years ago through a friend. So excited to find such an extremely rare space I signed a lease and moved in immediately before I even new what to do with it. Flash forward 2 years and I now find myself living with a Zimbabwean film producer running a communal share house aka (mini Bed & Breakfast) out of my loft. Rita (Zim film producer) and I met when she stayed at my loft for 2 weeks while looking for permanent accommodations in New York. Those permanent accommodations turned out to be at my loft where she’s become co-host to our house of international guests and the occasional Aussie refugee. My obsession with collecting mid-century furniture and flea market gems has hopefully made each of our three guest rooms as well as the rest of the loft a unique and comfortable space for our guests to call home. We recently starting a new tradition of cooking brunch every Sunday with our guests and friends. I’ve taken all the cooking lessons I fought my mother over as a youth, combined them with some new tricks to make them healthier and this has created the template for our brunch menu. Add guest contributions like orange flour-less cake from the Aussie Master chef contestant who stayed with us recently, or authentic Italian homemade pasta from the Milano girls. Food, and an international modge-podge of friendly folks discussing life from around the globe have made Sundays the most anticipated day of the week. Turning my loft into a communal space to be shared with travelers who become friends has been the most positively life altering decision I’ve ever made. With each passing person the experience gets exponentially greater. As characters in a great novel each guest who stays seems to unfold a little more of the story. I can’t ask for a better life. Rita and I look forward to meeting you soon.
