About This Listing
A warm welcome to our home with its original features, fantastic location and seaside atmosphere: an ideal base to explore 1066 Country and beyond, learn new watersports or improve your English. We will make your visit to Hastings truly memorable!
Full of character, our top floor double or triple room (with the option of a tatami mat to accommodate four or a wooden cot if required) has its own basin and fitted cupboards with glorious rooftop views across town and up to Hastings Castle. It is quiet, warm and double glazed. Guests share the spacious family bathroom (bath and shower). Towels, bed linen, and unlimited free WiFi are provided.
A healthy breakfast with a choice of cereals, free range eggs and toast with tea or coffee is included in the price! A separate packed lunch, if required, can be arranged too. Tibetan cuisine is available on request.
Opposite Marks & Spencer and the main Priory Meadow shopping centre, our house is a short walk from the railway station, with trains to London in ninety minutes - and the Channel Tunnel an hour's drive by car. The beach is five minutes' walk and the picturesque Old Town closeby - either along the seafront or up and over West Hill for magnificent views to the English Channel - with its charming boutiques - and the Jerwood Gallery, next to which there is a spectacular programme of free events on Saturday evenings between June and mid-October called Stade Saturdays.
At night, Pizza Express is on your doorstep as are a selection of pubs, supermarkets and the cinema. Your hosts have lived around the world, particularly in India and Japan, and speak eight languages between them to varying degrees. During the winter months, open fires burn downstairs, while in the Summer, meals can be taken in the terraced garden to the rear.
We can accommodate a small/medium car on our forecourt but PLEASE ARRANGE THIS IN ADVANCE. Otherwise the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre down the hill charges £5 for the whole day, £1 on Sundays. Free overnight parking from 6pm to 9am is available a few yards away.
Besides the first floor family bathroom and the downstairs toilet, guests are welcome to use the terraced garden at the rear. The TV is in our family room on the first floor.
Interaction with Guests
We live as a family in the house and are always ready to help with any queries guests might have. We really enjoy meeting new people and showing them round our beautiful town and East Sussex. We have travelled extensively and lived in Asia and speak several languages of the East.
Hastings has many unusual and special events throughout the year - Jack in the Green Festival over the May Bank Holiday Weekend, Pirate's Day in July, and the October 18th torchlight parades, bonfire on the beach and fireworks to commemorate the Battle of Hastings. The centre of Hastings is very compact. Priory Meadow Shopping Centre houses many high street brands, while the railway station and post office are also on our doorstep. The beach, the Old Town and the Castle - with its magnificent views over the English Channel - are all a short walk away. Despite this convenience, the house is very quiet.
In terms of public transport, Hastings Station (London 90 mins; Rye 20 mins) is a 7 minute walk; the stop for the National Express coach to and from London or Dover is alongside the Shopping Centre; the Channel Tunnel and ports are c. 45 minutes' drive by car. Meanwhile, if our carpark is full, extensive parking is available in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre or overnight on the street a few yards away. We can keep bicycles in our courtyard overnight for safety.
Other Things to Note
We have welcomed a wide range of guest - families from Europe using Hastings as a base for their Summer holiday, performers at local theatres, weekenders from London looking for peace and tranquillity and tourists on their first or last nights in England before taking the Channel Tunnel.
No unregistered overnight guests are allowed.
Please show consideration when using the family bathroom at children's bedtime (there is another loo available downstairs). No self-catering.
Tenzin's house had a perfect balance of privacy and friendliness. Tenzin and her family were very helpful and sweet. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Hastings!
Welcoming however difficult with being at the top of the house
Tenzin and Alexander were extremely welcoming and went out of their way to look after us and advise us of great places to visit in Hastings. The location is great too: really near the beach and a very quick walk to town.
Tenzin was very friendly and caring.
The beds were a bit small as we were changed to a room we had not actually booked and the bathroom is shared with everybody in the house
(although a sink is in the room).
We really enjoyed our stay. It was a very nice place and the family is very friendly and hospitable. We recommend this location to other people.
We had a lovely time in Hastings and a great stay with Tenzin and Alexander.
The house is ideally located near the train station as well as near the old town and the beach.
Alexander took good care of us. He provide some maps and info about the city and gave us some hints of where to go. Also a good and relaxing chat was offered during the breakfast.
Over all, a really welcoming family and a good place to stay.
Thanks for everything!
Really nice family home. Very welcoming too.
Reasonably priced too.
