The Space

Uptown is 1 neighborhood North of Wrigleyville/Lakeview/Boystown and 1 neighborhood South of Andersonville.

2nd floor apartment in a 2-flat greystone. Lots of light, lots of vintage wood, small back yard for relaxing & grilling.

2 blocks from Montrose Beach & Montrose Harbor, 1 block from Clarendon Park. 3 blocks to CTA Red Line, 1 block to several express buses. Street parking only. It's an urban/ecclectic/transitional/mixed neighborhood - sometimes noisy, always colorful.

Unusually large apartment - 3 distinct living spaces + dining room + bedrooms; lots of room for privacy - hang, read, relax. High-speed wireless. 1 bathroom - I promise to keep it clean. A bike rental company is nearby, or if you bring your own you can keep it in the basement.

Pretty laid-back ... do your own thing, let me know if I can help you find stuff in the city. Good hospitality - very casual. You'll have a good time.

You've got full access to the kitchen if you'd like to cook your own meals (or grill in the yard).

Plenty of sheets, towels, blankets, pillows. There are no pets here - not even a fish.

  • I have a new great friend....not, better said I have two great friends (Andrew and Paul). My last months in Chicago were awesome and Andrew was one of the main reason. He did that his house was the mine too. Even I was in his wedding and that moment will be a special remember for all my life. All people around Andrew made me feel very cozy....his friends, his parents, his (email hidden)d of course Paul.

For last, I could keep telling a lot of nice things, I have to recognize that I am a very lucky man to have known people as Andrew and Paul.

Thanks for doing that my stay in Chicago was so amazing! Hope I see you soon again!

  • Andrew was a wonderful host. His apartment was quite inviting and Andrew went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. His advice for getting around Chicago was invaluable and the travel literature he makes available to his guests was much appreciated. My wife and I enjoyed our conversations with Andrew over breakfast; he is an interesting guy and getting to know him better was half the fun of staying at his place. We would stay with Andrew again without hesitation.

  • This will probably be a rehash of what others have mentioned but seriously, no hyperbole in those reviews at all. The apartment is beautifully decorated and clean; the room is comfortable and the location is super convenient with various transport options within walking distance. There are various shops for groceries and places for good eats near the apartment. Andrew and his room mate, William Laurence, are amazing people to be around - both are warm, spirited, helpful and very funny Individuals with interesting stories and friends to share. They are also very mindful of privacy and need for private space (both physiological and physical). I can't say enough good things about their hospitality - invitations to join their friends for meals, texts to remind me to stay warm, hot tea awaiting on a wintry Chicago day and the list goes on. Having lived in Chicago for quite a it, they're walking troves of information on the city. If you need more information, the room is thoughtfully stocked with all kinds of maps, history books, travelling books and timeout magazines. I'll stop sounding like a parrot now - I'd definitely stay here again!

  • Huge apartment, very comfortable, quiet, and about 8 minutes by the corner express bus to downtown! Andrew and flat mate William Lawrence are perfect hosts, welcoming generous and (email hidden)s, it's not down town, but I think that's an advantage...we were also about 2 mins walk to the red line, with access to everywhere, and we got to stay in a colourful neighborhood a block from the lake. They included us in their party on our last night and we had a great time ! Definitely absolutely a real airbnb gem .

  • My stay at Andrew was fantastic: the house is big, with a very welcoming backyard and a BBQ, and both the host (Andrew) and his housemate (William Laurence) are wonderful.
Andrew made my visit in Chicago amazing, even if i began with a lost wallet on my very first day (my own mistake). He even helped me with that matter throughout my stay.
Loved the house which is very comfortable and easily connected to downtown by bus or metro.
Loved the porch for some cocktails in the evening with William Laurence.
    Loved all of it ;)

  • From the moment I booked, Andrew couldn't have been more helpful. I'd not been to Chicago before and he sent some great details of how to get to his place and of great things to see.

I was in Chicago to attend improv classes and spend time with some other I knew who were doing the same, so I wasn't about the apartment that much, but when I was there the atmosphere was relaxed, I was treated incredibly well, and was made to feel at home.

My stay couldn't have been better and I'd like to thank Andrew and William Laurence for their wonderful welcome, comfortable room and handy directions to the places I needed to get to. An exceptional first AirBnb experience.

  • I am leaving this review two weeks after I returned from Chicago, that is not on the spot. But I am still excited by the very warm welcome by Andrew and his house mate William Laurence. I didn’t expect so much! I’d like to thank them very, very much! I keep telling my friends how well I felt with them, thanks to these two wonderful guys. We connected right away and had interesting discussions. Andrew and William Laurence are open-minded, intelligent and helpful, also respectful of privacy when needed. And they introduced me to their friends which I also found really great. I, too, loved the house (very tastefully decorated and very convenient), the garden, the backyard barbecues, the diners outside, being able to sing out loud in the house ☺ (which I only do if I feel really comfortable). The neighborhood is calm and nice, practical in many ways (transportation, grocery, walking around) without being “aseptic”. I highly recommend my host Andrew and his house-mate William Laurence, this house, Chicago, and the lake! A little inside info for future guests: Andrew likes dark chocolate (no milk please), cooking and gardening and William-Laurence drinks organic yogi tea in the morning and makes good cocktails.

  • Andrew's flat is very nice and warmly decorated. Great place to stay with easy access to public transportation. Andrew himself is a super nice person!!! He went out of his way to help me out craft my plans and even find the right place for my business meetings in Chicago. Enjoyed talking with him. Breakfast was both tasty and nicely served. I felt welcomed and would definitely stay in his flat again!

  • Andrew was a gracious host. He was interested in what we were doing. He provided information sheets on local restaurants and attractions. He gave advice upon request. He made very nice breakfasts and since we had to leave in the wee hours on our last day he made us on-board lunches in lieu of breakfast. His place was clean and his bedding and towels were fine. He gave us space in the bathroom. The first morning he ate with us; a nice conversationalist. The other mornings he left us to ourselves. His roommate accompanied us on the beginning of a bus ride and talked enthusiastically about Chicago, showing us where to get the best deep dish pizza. Andrew recommended a great jazz club. We highly recommend staying with him.
