The space

Villa Montemeru offers simple yet sophisticated and elegant accommodations. You enjoy magnificent views of the Pacific ocean from nearly every angle, with sunsets to die for. Our property features unique sculptures and sculptured bathrooms made by an internationally acclaimed artist. The house is custom furnished with beds, tables, chairs and closets in various tropical hardwoods. All units have large, high quality ceiling fans that keep the interiors cool year round. Solar hot water systems automatically switch to electricity in the rare event that there isn't enough sun. The pool is meticulously maintained with a minimum of chlorine and the water has no discernible chemical smell. All beds have top of the line mattresses and linens. Nothing artificial. The kitchen features high quality appliances and an espresso machine. Daily room & laundry service, except Sunday. The property has park like surroundings, with many unique trees and plants that are visited daily by many species of tropical birds, butterflies and monkeys.

Malpaís, originally a sleepy fishing village at the northern periphery of Costa Rica's first National Park, the Riserva Absoluta Cabo Blanco, today still retains much of its original tranquility and picturesque charm. Just as in days past, the fishermen arrive each afternoon with their daily catch, which they offer to the public. You won't find fresher fish than that.

Santa Teresa, only a couple of miles up the road has all the hustle and bustle of a growing tourist attraction, with its hotels, restaurants, bars and shopping. But no matter how busy the main road, the beaches are always uncrowded, with a year round warm Pacific ocean in front and lush tropical vegetation behind. Malpaís is more residential. Only a handful of hotels and restaurants are found along the main road, but the hills are dotted with luxury homes and celebrity hideaways.

Entertainment: Being one of the premier surf destinations in Costa Rica, the waves are the main attraction that lure visitors. But other recreational opportunities abound. Horseback riding along the beach or in the hills, gliding through the rain forest canopy on zip lines, hiking, exotic bird watching or just lying on a quiet but not entirely secluded beach and getting that healthy tan, it all adds up to bliss. For those looking for entertainment the area offers a wide variety of attractions, such as contemporary music events, a organic food and flea market and parties on the beach.

Lifestyle: Malpaís features a weekly organic market at Playa Carmen, an abundance of outdoor yoga studios, massage therapists, chiropractor and other modalities.

There are good restaurants along the beaches and there are excellent cafes and bakeries. To make a long story short, the southern Nicoya Peninsula combines breathtaking nature with high quality living. Come and enjoy it in the first class setting of Villa MonteMeru and experience bliss.

Daniel’s villa was absolutely amazing and the photos simply don’t do it justice. All four of the bedrooms are spacious, each with a nice private bathroom. This was the cleanest place we stayed at in all of Costa Rica. It was great to sleep with the windows open and wake up to the sound of live birds as your alarm clock, along with the howler monkey family in the backyard. The mosquito nets over the beds are a necessity and will serve you well. The kitchen is totally equipped with everything you need to make meals, including some spices and oils. We bought fresh fish from the fishermen at the port down the road from the villa and grilled it on the barbecue. The outdoor living and dining area offered a great gathering space for our group of eight. The pool was refreshing and the views of the sea are stunning (on a cloudless day you can watch a nice sunset from there). There’s a sound system in the kitchen to put on some music and set the mood. Jeremy’s staff were incredibly kind and came each day to clean the pool, tidy up the kitchen and even offered to do our laundry. There’s an abundance of wildlife and you never know which animals you might be lucky enough to see. I can highy recommend this place for a group or large family looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay on the Nicoya Peninsula. Thanks Daniel!

The place was amazing! We loved how it was tucked away right off the main road. The house had a great set up and we especially loved the open air kitchen and living space right by the pool. The views were truly one of a kind. Each room was special and nicely decorated. Daniel was an amazing host and very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas. We had a great experience and were very happy overall and would definitely return. His dogs are amazing as well!

The property is well maintained and very clean. We had two couples in our party and rented 2 rooms on the 2nd floor (Daniel the owner lives on the top floor and has 2 friendly dogs). Communication with Daniel was good before we arrived. The infinity pool and outside living room & kitchen are awesome for unwinding at the end of the day and hanging out in the AM before starting activities. I loved the morning swim I had. We had a 4x4 and drove to Montezuma for ziplining and other activities (about 20-25 minutes drive). We recommend staying here, especially since I'm sure it's one of the nicest places in the Mal Pais / Santa Teresa / Montezuma area.
